House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Thursday joined a long list of high-profile figures in Washington, D.C., who have contracted Covid-19 in the past few days.
“After testing negative this week, Speaker Pelosi received a positive test result for Covid-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, wrote on Twitter. “The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided.”
Collins’ office announced later on Thursday that she, too, had tested positive.

An intense penultimate episode -- directed by Scott Peters, co-creator of the original The 4400 series -- leaves us with plenty to look forward to for the season finale.
On 4400 Season 1 Episode 12, the Rev’s fate remains a mystery, and dark forces threaten our characters at every turn.
But, as always, there were also moments of light. A central theme of this episode was sibling relationships -- love, loyalty, and betrayal.
The focus on Mildred’s past brought to light her relationship with her sister, Millicent, and the life from which they both were taken.
Abandoned by their mother at a young age, the two Millies were left to be raised in a commune with a creepy leader.

The 4400 is officially making a comeback.
The CW on Tuesday announced a straight-to-series order for its remake of USA Network's sci-fi drama.

A cult sci-fi series is making a comeback. The CW has given a straight-to-series order to The 4400, a reimagining of the 2004 USA Network drama. It hails from Riverdale co-executive producer Ariana Jackson and Anna Fricke, who successfully rebooted Walker, Texas Ranger for the CW.
The 4400 is part of four greenlights given by the CW on Tuesday. The network, which last year did not do traditional pilots because of the coronavirus pandemic, ordering four projects straight-to-series, will film at least three pilots in 2021: Diablo Cody and Berlanti Prods.’ Powerpuff Girls; Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship’s DC-themed Naomi; and a millennial nun dramedy from Jennie Snyder Urman, Claire Rothrock & Ryann Weir. All four projects have all-female creative teams.

The CW has made a number of orders for the 2021-2022 season, including a pilot order for the live-action “Powerpuff Girls” series.
In total, The CW announced three pilot orders and one straight-to-series pickup, with the latter being a reboot of the USA Network series “The 4400.” The other two pilots are for the DC project “Naomi” from Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship and an untitled religious dramedy from Claire Rothrock and Ryann Weir. All of the projects are created by women.
The “Powerpuff Girls” live-action series was first announced as being in development back in August. Based on the Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken, the new series sees the pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?
The project hails from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody,...

Once again, I can’t stress enough how the Batwoman TV series couldn’t have debuted at a more opportune time. With Fox’s Gotham now a thing of the past, The CW are now free to use whatever Batman villains from the comic books they so choose. Well, I’m guessing a few are out of their reach, as Matt Reeves may want them saved for the silver screen, but that still leaves dozens of other evildoers at their fingertips.
For those keeping track, we’ve already met a pre-Hush Tommy Elliott and Magpie, with more familiars undoubtedly on the way. I’m just not counting Alice among their number, however, as she’s always been a contemporary for Kate Kane, and not the Dark Knight himself.

It’s kind of silly that Hollywood rarely takes chances on original concepts. In 2007 the USA Network series The 4400 aired its final episode. It was a decent series for its time, but now The CW wants to reboot it.

Co-written and executive produced by Craig Sweeny and Taylor Elmore, the drama from CBS Television Studios is a reimagining of the USA network series which ran for four seasons beginning in 2004.
In the series, 4,400 young adults in their reproductive prime have gone missing all over the world — some disappearances happened as recently as a few weeks ago, while others date as far back as the infamous day the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite in 1957. After a marathon five hours of testimony yesterday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg returned to Congress today to address another round of questions about privacy and the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden, R-Oregon, opened the hearing calling Facebook an American success story — a company that embodies the nation’s principles of freedom of speech and association. But reports that data about millions of users had been harvested without their consent raises troubling questions about privacy and trust.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, a 19-year-old gunman walked onto the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, armed with what police say was a military-style semi-automatic rifle and countless magazines — and killed at least 17 people. He was a troubled man who had shown repeated signs of being unstable and yet was able to legally obtain a semi-automatic rifle capaable of causing unimaginable carnage.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott called the attack “pure evil” and vowed to have a real conversation about sensible gun legislation, saying, “The violence has to stop. We cannot lose another child in this country to gun violence in a school.

It's been nearly 20-hours since Democrats first filled the U.S. House floor in protest, demanding a vote on gun control - and the party isn't backing down. Democrats refused to give in early Thursday, even after Republican leaders sought to thwart the party's efforts by voting on several bills - not including gun control - at 2:30 a.m. and sending lawmakers home until July 5. "This is nothing more than a publicity stunt," Speaker of the House Paul Ryan told CNN of the protest. "This is not about a solution to a problem. This is about trying to get attention.

The revolution will be televised — but via smart phone. C-span once again became the unlikely home of Must-See TV on Wednesday night, as Democrats staged a sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives to push for a debate on gun legislation.
Republican leaders — led by Speaker Paul Ryan — shut off the cameras in the House, serving as a reminder that the government controls the official feeds serviced by Congress to C-span and other media outlets. That’s when several members – including Rep. Scott Peters (D-s.D.), Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-tx) and Eric Swalwell (D-ca) – pulled out their smartphones and began broadcasting the protest via Facebook Live and Periscope.
That’s despite rules against photo taking inside the House. The video was at times shaky, and the audio was weak, but it was good enough for C-span, which soon took advantage of feeds being provided by several different members.

Debuting November 3, 2009, the show is a 're-imagining' of the 1983 miniseries created by Kenneth Johnson, chronicling the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced alien species which ostensibly comes in peace, but actually has sinister motives.

The series is executive produced by Scott Rosenbaum, Yves Simoneau, Scott Peters and Jace Hall, for The Scott Peters Company, HDFilms and Warner Bros. Television.

When the new version of V first showed up, I was surprisingly hopeful. Back when it was simply a theory, I had little interest in a reboot of the camp alien drama, especially since reworking anything that Marc Singer has been a part of is pure folly. Like many of our recent trips back to the ’80s, there is too serious an air at work here, but the first few episodes were actually rather interesting. After that, the ratings proved that there was a market for the show, and that it was doing a fair job living up to whatever expectations had drawn viewers in.
While there are a variety of twists to the original story, the heart of the matter is the same, and the general architecture of the first season’s plot closely resembles the main points of the original. Aliens come to Earth with smiling faces, faces...

They come in peace, and Tuesday they come home: the complete first season of ABC’s new V is released on Blu-Ray and DVD this week. I have an early look at the DVD edition for you today.
The Show
I suppose I have to start with a confession: I’ve never seen one minute of the original V. It never interested me. Though I suppose I’ve made things somewhat even by never having watched this incarnation until I opened these DVDs. This one actually did interest me, if only because Joel Gretsch (Taken, The 4400) is in the cast, but for various reasons it’s remained “that show I skipped the press room for at Comic-Con because I managed to work myself to exhaustion.”
To that end, here’s a brief summary: spaceships appear over 29 major cities in the world, and of course the aliens aboard (referred to as “Visitors,...

V producer Scott Rosenbaum has criticised the sci-fi drama's first season. He told The Futon Critic that the show had originally lacked direction. "In a complicated show that needs a mythology, you have to have... answers," he explained. "I think the reason the show had some problems in the beginning was because there weren't answers to the questions [being posed]." Rosenbaum replaced original showrunner Scott Peters after the first four episodes had aired. "It was tough in the beginning," he admitted. "I had to create the mythology but then also back-track it so that it made sense with what the first four episodes [had set up]." He insisted that the forthcoming second season would be more consistent. "Going into season two, I spent a lot of time completely solving the (more)...

It's no secret that there were numerous problems behind the scenes on ABC's "V." For a start, the series lost its showrunner, Scott Peters, only four episodes in and the overall arc of the story had to be realigned. However, what may not be apparent is just how directionless the series was after the upheaval and how much work was needed to re-create "V" into a working television series without stepping on the toes of the original four-episode story. "It was tough in the beginning," producer Scott Rosenbaum told The Futon Critic. "I had to create the mythology but then also back-track it so that it made sense with what the first four episodes" had set up. In the first batch of episodes, "V" focused more on the arrival of the Visitors and their impact on society, as well as placing ...

Last season, before the new V series had even debuted on ABC, the show was getting a lot of heat from skeptical fans of the original series. Executive producer Scott Peters said that, though their series wasn't a continuation of the old, some of the original stars could pop up.
Peters said that the key would be to find the right role for actors like Jane Badler. He said, "It's either a really ironic role for them, based on what their old role was, or just something really fun or interesting. I want them to have fun doing it. I want the fans to be excited about it. And I think it's just a fun thing to be able to tip your hat to the old show."
Well, they seem to have found a good one for Badler. She'll be a recurring guest...

According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, actress Jane Badler will appear on ABC's Vancouver-lensed TV series "V" as a recurring character.
Badler played the lizard 'Diana' in the original 1980's "V" series and will play a new character named 'Diana' in the rebooted show, as the reptilian alien mother of 'Anna'.

When ABC begins the second season of V this fall it will be adding one of the cast members from the original incarnation of the show. Jane Badler, the brunette beauty and a Miss New Hampshire from the 1970s, will once again play an evil space alien called Diana on V.
While Badler's character on the original V was named Diana, her new persona on the 21st century V is related in name only to the lizard lady on the first TV series. This new Diana is the mother of the primary V spokesperson and villainess, Morena Baccarin's Anna, and apparently has been onboard the mothership all this time but living in a section of the ship where it resembles the home planet of the V's. ABC’s V has had a lot of turmoil in its short history – not least of which was the changeover from showrunner Scott Peters, to first name sharer Scott Rosenbaum, after the first four episodes of the show had already aired. Though this isn’t unheard of in the TV world, there was a clear shift in the show brought about by Rosenbaum’s arrival – more action, more intrigue and more, well, aliens.
But we’ll let Rosenbaum tell you himself... With the first season quickly coming to a close tonight, we had a chance to chat with the Executive Producer about where the show is, where it’s going, and whether Chad and Anna are ever going to do it. You know, important news type questions:

Actor Joel Gretsch has been making the rounds in the televised science fiction world since Steven Spielberg’s Taken miniseries back in 2002. Since then, we’ve gotten Joel in The 4400, Journeyman and the film Push. Gretsch can now be seen as Father Jack Landry on ABC’s V. We recently got to talk to Joel about his role on the show, his ties to the world of sci-fi, and even got a response to a question that fanboys and girls have been asking for years.
The Flickcast: Starting off, what can you tell me about the things coming up on V?
Joel Gretsch: Wow, what a question. [laughs]. Lots of things. It’s really ramping up. Scott Rosenbaum, the showrunner, is writing a lot of fast, neck-breaking reveals, and you’re going to learn a lot of things of things about where each character comes from, why they are who they are.

We can understand if you're a little fuzzy on what was happening when "V" left the air three months ago.
ABC apparently understands too. In advance of Tuesday's (March 30) return, the network has offered up a "V"-cap of the first four episodes, which aired way back in November. If you're a "Lost" fan, you'll probably recognize the voice-over: It's the same detached, sardonic female voice who's done the "Lost" recaps in past seasons.
Here's the refresher course:
Tuesday's episode -- which follows "Lost" at 10 p.m. Et, is the first completed under new showrunner Scott Rosenbaum ("Chuck," "The Shield"), who took over after the first four episodes from Scott Peters. Rosenbaum also wrote the episode, which contains the following fight scene between FBI Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) and a Visitor.
Are you excited for the show's return? Will you watch a "Lost"-"V" double bill?

All hail the V's! They come in peace, you know – but judging by the title of the March 30th return, "Welcome to the War," that peaceful facade is going to start cracking. ABC has released some tantalizing pics from the episode that suggest some major action is coming, hopefully we'll see a face ripped off.
Note that ABC will be premiering the previous two episodes of V on Saturday night, March 27th, so all of you socially afflicted people have something to do now.

Sneak Peek two new posters, promoting the return, after a brief 'production hiatus', of ABC TV's Vancouver-lensed update of the 1980's 'reptilian agenda' TV series "V". Production resumed in Vancouver January 2010, on the remaining 9 episodes in the 13-episode season order. The show returns to ABC March 30.
"We always intended to break the show up into 'pods' to make it more of an event," said ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson.
The new show debuted November 3, 2009, as a 're-imagining' of the 1983 miniseries created by Kenneth Johnson, chronicling the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced alien species who have come "...to serve mankind..." on a dinner platter.
"V" stars Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Scott Wolf, executive produced by Scott Rosenbaum, Scott Peters, and Jace Hall.
On the first episode spaceships appear over 29 major cities throughout the world, as 'Anna' (Baccarin), leader of the extra-terrestrial 'Visitors' claims to come in peace.
