Jermaine Fowler, who recently had a role in the horror comedy The Blackening, has just finished up his work on a psychological thriller from Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink, Deadline reports. The untitled project was able to get through production in the midst of the SAG strike by securing an interim agreement.
Written by Sam Johnson and Connor Diedrich, the thriller sees Fowler taking on the role of Allen Perkins. The story follows Allen through various twists and turns on a descent into darkness as he hosts his old college pals for the weekend.
Fowler is joined in the cast by James Morosini (I Love My Dad), Pauline Chalamet (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Edy Modica (Jury Duty), Rob Yang (Succession), and Brendan Hunt (Ted Lasso).
Pink said this thriller is “one of the coolest films I have ever had the opportunity to direct in my career.

The "Fletch" movies have always been the product of turmoil. I.M. Fletcher, a hybrid private eye and journalist, made his first appearance in Gregory McDonald's 1974 novel "Fletch," following the investigator as he looks into a shady but tempting offer from a fat cat billionaire. His big-screen debut came in Michael Ritchie's ("Bad News Bears") 1985 feature of the same name, starring Chevy Chase in the lead role of the loose adaptation; it was a box-office smash. Four years later, the sequel "Fletch Lives" saw Chase and Ritchie reprising their respective roles in a follow-up Roger Ebert once described as a "dispirited slog through the rummage sale of movie cliches."
Since then, Fletch has undergone more iterations than his numerous implausible identities. The most talked about version is Kevin Smith's unproduced "Fletch Won," which he envisioned as a Miramax vehicle for "Mallrats" star and frequent Smith collaborator Jason Lee.

Exclusive: Jake Choi (Single Parents) has signed on to star alongside Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji, John Cena and Meredith Hagner in 20th Century Studios’ Vacation Friends sequel Honeymoon Friends for Hulu.
In the original film released to the streamer in August of 2021, an uptight couple (Howery and Orji) makes friends with a rowdy couple (Cena and Hagner) while on vacation in Mexico, but their friendship takes an awkward turn when they get back home.
Clay Tarver directed the buddy comedy from his script co-written by Tom Mullen, Tim Mullen, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, seeing it score Hulu’s biggest opening weekend for an original title, though the Predator franchise prequel Prey has since trumped it. Todd Garner and Timothy M. Bourne produced, with Steve Pink and Sean Robins exec producing.
Details as to the sequel’s plot are being kept under wraps. While unconfirmed, we hear that...

Fletch lives!
After years (perhaps decades) of potential reinvention, a new iteration of Fletch, the private investigator that originated in a series of novels by mystery writer Gregory Mcdonald and immortalized in Michael Ritchie’s terrific movie starring Chevy Chase (and one so-so sequel), is finally here.
Jon Hamm is now playing Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, this time for “Adventureland” director Greg Mottola. The new trailer definitely keeps the spirit of the original film alive while noticeably lessening the wackiness of the Chase iteration (we imagine there will be fewer half-assed disguises this time around).
The new movie, based on the second Fletch novel by Mcdonald, sees Fletch investigating the theft of a valuable painting. Hamm’s old “Mad Men” costar John Slattery co-stars as Fletch’s boss at the paper, while Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle McLaughlan and Lorenza Izzo also co-star.

Scientific research tells us that nearly all of the cells in the human body are renewed every seven years. Personally, I like to think that explains the “seven-year itch,” the phenomenon by which so many of us change jobs, friends and such on a predictable cycle: because you’re literally not the same person anymore.
It’s been eight years since Albee (Amber Midthunder) and Walker (Taylor Gray) got married, and their relationship is running on fumes. A surprisingly serious-minded drama from “Hot Tub Time Machine” helmer Steve Pink (who co-wrote Gen X John Cusack romances “Grosse Pointe Blank” and “High Fidelity”), no-frills indie “The Wheel” follows this couple on a weekend retreat to a remote Airbnb, where the pair plan to hash things out once and for all.
Walker has brought along a self-help book, “Seven Questions to Save Your Marriage.” Albee says she’s game, but seldom looks away from her iPhone.

Faced with a parentless future, Tommy escapes child protective services’ custody with his best friends Steve (Mylen Bradford) and O’Neill (Gerrison Machado) into the L.A. streets—packed with men trying to rob them, cops chasing them, a python, a fist fight, a first kiss and phone sex. Throughout it all, Tommy keeps calling an 800 number, as he feels the woman on the line (Ali Richey) is the only adult he can confide in. By the end of the night, the boys’ brotherhood breaks down as they cross the threshold into adulthood.

Quiver Distribution has acquired North American rights to “Bitch Ass,” a horror movie that premiered at this year’s SXSW where it won the Midnighter’s Audience Award and earned praise for its sly reinvention of the slasher genre.
The film stars Teon Kelley (“Tyler”), Tunde Laleye (“Black as Night”), Me’lisa Sellers (“Split”), Tony Todd (“Candyman”), and Sheaun McKinney (“The Neighborhood”) and was written and directed by Bill Posley (“Cobra Kai”). Quiver Distribution is planning an October 14, 2022 release.
Quiver says the film blends comedy, horror and social commentary, while telling the story of a gang initiation gone wrong when a group of four recruits break into a house of horror and are forced by Bitch Ass (Laleye) to play deadly games for their lives. Win and you live – lose and you die.

Despite only being 24 years old, Walker (Taylor Gray) and Albee (Amber Midthunder) head into the woods from their Los Angeles existence to try to save their eight-year marriage. Well, he’s trying to save their marriage. To look at their interactions is to wonder why Albee hadn’t left years ago. We catch glimpses of a smile every now and then, but mostly her head is buried in her phone or coldly lamenting why Walker has taken her to the middle of nowhere to read a self-help book that she doesn’t believe can fix what’s broken. And maybe his desire to try is less about optimism than it is delusion. Maybe their union isn’t what’s broken; it’s them. To fix that means confronting even worse pain.

Whether it’s cocaine on a margarita rim in place of salt or mushrooms that Lil Rel Howery should’ve never eaten, John Cena is quite the bad influence in the first trailer for “Vacation Friends,” as everything he touches “turns to drugs,” giving Howery and his bride to be a bad trip in more ways than one.
“Vacation Friends” is a comedy about a couple played by Howery and Yvonne Orji about to have their dream wedding, only for a couple played by Cena and Meredith Hagner to crash it and claim they’re best friends. Turns out the two couples had a week full of debauchery and fun in Mexico together after Howery and Orji met them and decided to let loose.

Midthunder co-stars alongside Taylor Gray, whose credits include Star Wars Rebels and American Princess. The Wheel centers on Albee and Walker, a couple on the verge of divorce. Married at 16, they’re now 24 and miserable. Albee wants out, while Walker wants to make it work – no matter the damage. This is their Hail Mary; a weekend in the mountains to work through a book that might save their relationship via total, brutal honesty. Nelson Lee (Mulan), Bethany Anne Lind (Ozark), and Kevin Pasdon (New Amsterdam) round out the cast.

Cole Sprouse is about to fulfill all my brooding rockstar fantasies with his upcoming family comedy, Undercover, and I need a moment to emotionally prepare. According to Deadline, Sprouse will star alongside Shazam!'s Zachary Levi as Ben, the lead in a wedding cover band who's struggling to find his voice as a musician. Levi will play Jack, a father and former rocker who secretly joins Ben's band in an attempt to make ends meet. When Jack's secret is revealed, he rediscovers what's truly important to him and helps Ben find his voice along the way. So, uh, is it heartwarming? Check. Is it funny? Check. Am I buying tickets Asap? Check.
If Sprouse's truly magical performance of "Seventeen" alongside Lili Reinhart on Riverdale is anything to go by, we're in for a musical treat. "Like School of Rock and Pitch Perfect, Undercover is a movie that unites audiences with...

Exclusive: High Fidelity is on the move. Disney+ 10-episode series starring Zoë Kravitz, which had been set up at Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service, will relocate to fellow streaming platform Hulu.
The decision comes a couple of weeks after the close of Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox assets, which gave Disney controlling 60% stake in Hulu.
Disney+ is being billed as a service featuring programming that appeals to all ages while still conforming with the Disney brand. It runs the gamut of different demographics but it is considered a place for family-friendly fare vs. the more adult-oriented Hulu.
High Fidelity, from writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka, Midnight Radio and ABC Signature, is a reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack with a female point of view. While the movie was rated R, reflecting the tone in the book, I hear the series was...

Have you ever wondered why there hasn’t been a movie based on Slime? No? Me neither. But here we are, expecting a movie based on Slime. We complain that there aren’t enough original ideas in Hollywood, and then when they give us something original, we complain some more. Let’s clean up our act and give Slime a chance. Or something like that.
The movie will get its script from writing partners Steve Pink and Jeff Morris, with Pink directing. The Deadline exclusive says the movie will be a “family action adventure film,” “about a slime experiment gone wrong.” So we don’t have a lot to go on for now, but judging by the writers, there actually is a glimmer of hope that they could pull off a fun movie with a solid story. Troma Entertainment's The Toxic Avenger has been on a road to getting rebooted. There have been people trying to get the film into production since 2010. The last we heard, Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon was attached to direct it from a script written by Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine).
Now, according to Deadline, Legendary Entertainment has acquired feature film rights to The Toxic Avenger, and the directors of the original 1984 film Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will serve as producers on the new film. There’s no word on if Vernon or Pink are still involved though.

It looks like we might be headed for a Toxic Avenger reboot.
Somehow, against all odds, nobody has managed to reboot The Toxic Avenger yet. Oh, there have been attempts. In 2013, Arnold Schwarzenegger was attached to join a Toxic Avenger reboot where he would play Toxie's heroic coach, "The Exterminator." Thankfully, that never happened. More recently, Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon was working with writers Mike Arnold and Chris Poole (who were working off the Steve Pink/DC Mitchell draft that Arnie had been involved with) on another attempt to bring the character back to the big screen.
It would appear that all previous reboots have dissolved like so much flesh in a barrel of radioactive waste, though. Legendary Pictures has picked up the rights to The Toxic Avenger franchise, so it's inevitable that we're going to see a new movie sooner or later. Maybe. After all,...

After lengthy negotiations, Zoë Kravitz ("Big Little Lies") has been tapped to star and executive produce "High Fidelity," the reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack with a female point of view, which had been in development at Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service.
With Kravitz on board, the project has received a formal 10-episode order. The "High Fidelity" reboot hails from writers Veronica West & Sarah Kucserka, the Midnight Radio producing team and ABC Signature Studios (Smilf), and the cable/streaming division of ABC Studios. It's easily one of the biggest cult classic films of all time and Troma Entertainment's The Toxic Avenger has been in the process of being remade for a long time. Producers first got the remake rights back in early 2010, but by the end of that year, director Steve Pink (Hot tub Time Machine) had been hired to write and direct a PG-13 action comedy take on Troma's very R-rated original. Pink wrote the screenplay with Daniel C. Mitchell, their story followed an average teen who joins an environmental club in hopes to impress his crush. Then while investigating a waste plant, he falls into a tub of waste and transforms into a radioactive hero.
