Slasher movies have been around for decades, and they excel because you have a group of people stalked by a killer, only to have the story end within 90 minutes.
Slashers on TV take things in a different direction, with the story being told over a longer arc.
That doesn't always work, but some slashers have delivered on their promise.
Because we're TV Fanatics, we've rounded up some of the best slashers to hit the small screen.
Check them out below.

Slasher has had many homes during its time on the small screen.
It started its life on Chiller before moving to Netflix and currently airs on Shudder, where it enjoys continued success.
It promised lots of death and questions about the killer's identity.
It lived up to that promise.
However, we'd be remiss if we didn't recommend the original season and Guilty Party.

One might recall that Louis Leterrier was not the original director of "Fast X." As reported by /Film back in April of 2022, Justin Lin stepped away from the project due to "creative differences," and the production had to scramble to find a new director. Lin, it should be noted, directed the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth entries in the series. Shooting briefly continued without a director -- the fight scene between Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron was reportedly overseen only by the second unit -- before Leterrier, the action director behind films like "The Transporter 2," and "The Incredible Hulk," stepped in.
Luckily, Leterrier took to "Fast X" very quickly, and one would not be able to tell that there was any turmoil. The finished film is slick, dumb, and just as exciting as any of the previous chapters in the saga.

There will be no Season 2 for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Netflix confirmed the cancellation Monday of Jim Henson’s epic fantasy adventure series — a prequel to the original 1982 film — just hours after the series’ win this weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys for Outstanding Children’s Program.
“We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” said Lisa Henson, executive producer. “We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of The Dark Crystal saga concludes and we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future. Our company has a legacy of creating rich and complex worlds that require technical innovation, artistic excellence, and masterful storytelling. Our history also includes productions that are enduring, often finding and growing their audience over time and proving again and again that fantasy and science fiction genres reflect eternal...

Netflix has dropped the first teaser for “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” and now we’re even more terrified of the Jim Henson-created fantasy world Thra than we were when watching the original 1982 film.
The 10-episode prequel series, set to launch on the streaming service Aug. 30, stars Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel, as three Gelfling heroes — Rian, Brea and Deet, respectively — who learn of a villainous force called The Darkening in the preview video above.
Here’s the official description for “Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” per Netflix: Based on “The Dark Crystal,” Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power.

Powley plays Lina, a young Lithuanian artist arrested by the Soviet secret police and deported with her mother and younger brother to labor camps in Siberia. She finds solace in her art and risks everything to document and draw what she sees in hopes her drawings will shed light upon Stalin’s terror. Martin Wallström, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Jonah Hauer-King, Sophie Cookson, James Cosmo and Sam Hazeldine also star. Ben York Jones penned the script, adapted from Ruta Sepetya’s novel, and Sorrento Productions, Tauras Films and Twilight Merengue Studios produced. Man, Westworld is really good. It's so good, that it almost makes me wonder if westerns are gonna make a comeback. Then I see a trailer for Hickok starring Luke Hemsworth and I realize that no... probably not.
This trailer is pretty bad. Like not monumentally bad, but still. Poor acting, some bad looking cinematography, even some makeup that looks very much made up. I want to like this movie and tell you to go see this movie. But to do so would require me to see this movie, and this trailer just makes me not want to.
Now maybe I'm judging it too hard because I saw Hemsworth and instantly thought of Ian and Chris. They have a reputation of doing good movies and while Luke Hemsworth isn't necessarily the Stephen Baldwin of his family, he definitely isn't gonna be in any Marvel films anytime soon. The film also...

"We gunna have to do something about that young marshall of yours..." Cinedigm has released the first official trailer for a new western called Hickok, also known as Abilene (which is the name of the town in Kansas that this takes place in). The film stars Luke Hemsworth (the other brother of Liam and Chris) as a legendary lawman and gunslinger known as "Wild Bill" Hickok who moves to Abilene and is given the task of taming the wildest cow-town in the west. Also starring Trace Adkins, Kris Kristofferson, Cameron Richardson, Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau, Hunter Fischer, Robert Catrini, and Bruce Dern. This actually seems like a gritty western straight out of the 90s, without much to offer other than big gunfights. Here's the first official trailer for Timothy Woodward Jr.'s Hickok, direct from YouTube: Infamous gunslinger and outlaw "Wild Bill" Hickok (Luke Hemsworth) attempts to escape his past by settling...

The world blessed us with another Hemsworth this year, and now the elder brother of Liam and Chris is making his next move, going from Westworld to an indie Western. According to Deadline, Luke Hemsworth is set to play Wild Bill Hickok in Abilene. It looks like Hemsworth will be following in the footsteps of his kid brother: Liam Hemsworth jumped into the Western game earlier this year, starring with Woody Harrelson in The Duel. Like Hemsworths, Westerns are an inexhaustible resource.
Timothy Woodward Jr.’s upcoming Western was written by Michael Lanahan, and also stars Trace Adkins, Kris Kristofferson, Bruce Dern and Cameron Richardson. Kathryn F. Taylor makes her writing, directing and producing debut with horror flick The Evil Gene. I say this as, watching the film, it’s interesting to know that this is a project from someone very much new to filmmaking. In some ways it shows, but in other ways she shows a keen eye for it and displays skills that are needed to sculpt a long career.

Cult horror movies that have actors in them that go on to mega stardom create a separate category all their own. Kevin Bacon in “Friday the 13th”, George Clooney in “Horror High”, and Johnny Depp in the original “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. Director: Mitchell Altieri. Writers: Kevin Artigue, Joe Egender, Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores. Cast: Emma Greenwell, Joe Egender, Brendan McCarthy, Cameron Richardson and Don Harvey. Holy Ghost People is a dramatic thriller from the Butcher Brothers: Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores. Mostly known for their horror features, the Butcher Bros. have created a spiritual thriller in their latest title. Holy Ghost People is primarily told through the eyes of Charlotte (Emma Greenwell) and her search for her sister, Liz. Charlotte's obvious strength and vulnerability create a complex character as director Altieri captures all of the tension onscreen in a compelling manner. Holy Ghost People is one of the best small thrillers this film fan has seen so far this year. The story for the film involves Charlotte's search for her drug-addicted sister, Liz. Liz was last seen heading for the Church of the One Accord. So, Charlotte enlists the help of an ex-Marine,...

Just a few weeks ago, Mitchell Altieri's (one half of The Butcher Brothers) Holy Ghost People (review) celebrated its world premiere at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival.
Starring Emma Greenwell, Joe Egender, Brendan McCarthy, Cameron Richardson and Don Harvey, Holy Ghost People follows a young girl named Charlotte (Greenwell) who enlists the help of an ex-Marine (McCarthy) in locating her missing sister, who last contacted her while living on a religious compound tucked away in the Appalachian Mountains.
Holy Ghost People was co-written by Altieri, Phil Flores (the other half of The Butcher Brothers), Egender and Kevin Artigue. Dread Central recently chatted with both Altieri and Flores about their latest collaboration and their experiences working with their cast in the mountains of Tennessee. The duo also discussed their next feature project, Raised by Wolves, which is currently being wrapped up in post-production.

It was only a matter of time before the filmmaking team known as "The Butcher Brothers" would drop the slightly silly moniker and start crediting themselves as normal guys, and it only seems fitting that Mitch Altieri and Phil Flores would choose to do it with a film like Holy Ghost People. The duo has shown some skill and (better yet) improvement with each successive movie -- The Hamiltons, The Violent Kind, The Thompsons (and yes I left out April Fools Day to be kind) -- but their latest is easily their most complete, cohesive, and compelling thriller yet.
The simple gritty film works as both a dramatic piece and a thriller at the same time, and tonally it seems to borrow a little from the early indie films of David Gordon Green, which is meant as a compliment to all involved. At its best moments Holy Ghost People provides...

South by Southwest (SXSW) is just one of many film festivals, we here at Sound On Sight cover yearly. The fest, which takes place every spring in Austin, Texas, began in 1987, and has continued to grow in size every year. The fest announced the first wave of films back in early January, and the lineup included some highly anticipated films such as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Evil Dead, Downloaded and Spring Breakers. Now the full lineup has been announced, and it just might be one of the best lineups the festival has ever programmed.
SXSW takes place March 8-16 in Austin Texas. Here are just some of the films we are excited about.
Narrative Feature Competition – This year’s 8 films were selected from 1,191 submissions. Each film is a World Premiere.
