A majority of the trailer has footage from the first seven episodes.
Coming away from an episode 7, “The Eye”, which finds the Queen-Regent Míriel blinded, and the Southlands getting erased off the map and renamed Mordor as the orcs settle into their new homeland. Also in Ep. 7, King Durin III steps in between the bromance of Elrond and Durin, given his distrust of elves, declaring that elves won’t be helping the dwarves out with any resources. On Saturday, the streamer said its new big-budget fantasy drama was seen by more than 25 million global viewers on its first day of release. The numbers mark the biggest premiere in the history of the streaming service, Amazon says.

I am so grateful to the Tolkien Estate – and to our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew – for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy. And it is the tens of millions of fans watching – clearly as passionate about Middle-earth as we are – who are our true measure of success,...

The showrunners of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power promise their fantasy drama for Prime Video will feature all new stories and is not “a reboot or a retread” of what J.R.R. Tolkien fans saw in the movies.
“This is a new story for most who are going to be watching it. We weren’t interested in a nostalgia play,” showrunner Patrick McKay said Friday at the TCA summer press tour. “We felt that this show had to earn its place on the start, rise or fall on its own merits. There are different stories that you’ve seen before.”
“This is before Frodo, before the rings, the time during which the rings of power were forged,” showrunner J.D. Payne added.
Premiering September 2, the series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth — thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and novels.

At the same time, Emmy-winner Bear McCreary has composed the full episodic series score.
McCreary is known for his world-building scores and use of innovative musical approaches in the worlds of television, film, and video games. He turns that toward a series that Amazon describes as the Second Age of Middle-earth as written in the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. Over the past year, McCreary has recorded and composed hours of music for the score, weaving together his original themes into a sonic tapestry for a full symphonic orchestra,...

Middle-earth is coming to Amazon Prime Video, and while all seems at peace, a gathering storm threatens to lay it all to waste.
That’s the general vibe for the latest teaser trailer for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which the streamer released on Thursday, giving viewers a more detailed look at Prime Video’s highly anticipated series set within J. R. R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy world.
The two-and-a-half-minute preview focuses primarily on the two characters who also appear in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy from the 2000s: Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), as they debate Galadriel’s dogged belief that a shadowy enemy believed to be vanquished is still very much a looming threat. As Galadriel is considerably older than Elrond (he eventually marries her daughter), she does not find his assurances that he knows from darkness to be all that comforting.

Amazon now runs through Middle Earth.
The trailer for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” debuted on Sunday during the Super Bowl, revealing for the first time how the wildly ambitious new series for Amazon Prime Video is bringing the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth to life.
The 60-second teaser for the show, set thousands of years before Peter Jackson’s six feature films adapted from Tolkien’s novels, opens with the kind of awestruck, yearning dialogue familiar to anyone who has seen or read either: “Haven’t you ever wondered what else is out there? There’s wonders in this world beyond our wandering. I can feel it!”
The words appear to be spoken by a harfoot — an ancient ancestor of hobbits — played by Markella Kavenagh (“True History of the Kelly Gang”). The rest of the teaser unfurls at a brisk clip, presenting a dizzying procession of images.

The first trailer for the TV series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will debut on Super Bowl Sunday, Amazon Prime Video announced on Monday.
The teaser will cap off the first wave of promotion for the massively ambitious show, which launched Jan. 19 when Amazon unveiled the full title for the series in an elaborate video that involved real molten metal. Two weeks later, the streamer debuted 23 individual character posters for each of the show’s central cast that focused on their hands.
Set to debut worldwide on Prime Video on Sept. 2, “The Rings of Power” is the rare streaming series to earn a major promotional cycle more than six months before its debut, which is fitting given that Amazon spent roughly $465 million on the first season alone — on top of the $250 million the company spent to secure the rights to the series from author J.R.R. Tolkien’s estate.

The “Lord of the Rings” series at Amazon has unveiled its full title in a new video.
In the video (see below), molten metal is seen filling in grooves in a piece of wood while a woman’s voice says, “Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky. Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone. Nine for mortal men, doomed to die. One for the dark lord on his dark throne in the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.”
The full title is then revealed — “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” It had previously been confirmed that the show would take place during the so-called Second Age, when the Rings of Power were forged by Sauron. The title now indicates that the rings will be a major part of the show.

One of the biggest productions to hit the U.K. in years is gearing up to film outside London next spring, Variety can reveal.
Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s “Lord of the Rings,” which grabbed international headlines when the streaming player moved locations from New Zealand to the U.K., has set its first filming locations. The move — which was a major upset for the New Zealand production sector — is especially momentous given the U.K relocation marks the first time any of the modern “Lord of the Rings” live-action, on-screen projects have been produced outside of New Zealand, including “The Hobbit” trilogy.
Sources close to production say Bray Film Studios and Bovingdon Airfield will be the initial production facilities used to film the big-budget series. Pre-production is set to begin in the second quarter of 2022.

New Zealand Film Commission (Nzfc) CEO David Strong has expressed regret that Amazon Studios’ untitled The Lord of the Rings series will not return to the country to film season two, but remains confident of attracting other international productions.
Amazon announced today that it would relocate filming on the project to the UK as part of a strategy to expand its production footprint and invest in studio space there.
Post-production on season one will continue in Nz through to June 2022, and pre-production on season two will begin concurrently in the UK after January 1.
Strong said while the production would have been welcomed back for season two, its departure opened the door wider to others to come in.
“We’re an easy country to do business in and New Zealanders have a reputation for being highly skilled, innovative and creative,” he said.

Amazon Studios is moving production on its currently untitled “The Lord of the Rings” TV series from the franchise’s longtime home of New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the upcoming show’s second season, the company said Thursday.
Principal photography on the first season of the big-budget, eagerly anticipated “Lotr” adaptation recently wrapped in New Zealand, and that batch of episodes is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 2, 2022.
Per Amazon’s official description for the show: “The new epic drama brings to screens for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ books, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

The world’s most ambitious corporation is making the world’s biggest TV show. Amazon is hard at work on “The Lord of the Rings,” the series adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary epic fantasy franchise, which was previously adapted into the equally beloved “Lord of the Rings” film trilogy and the “Hobbit” trilogy, as well as many other adaptations. This will be the first time “Lotr” is being made into an ongoing TV series. It’s going to be a big deal. And by “big deal,” we mean “cost over a billion dollars to make.” Amazon paid $250 million for the rights alone, in a deal the attorney who negotiated it called “the most complicated deal I’ve ever seen.”
The show was announced in 2017. The eight-episode first season is in production now, and the second will start shooting soon after. The series is expected to run for five seasons.

Wayne Che Yip has joined the creative team behind The Lord of the Rings TV series, as both a co-executive producer and director, Amazon Studios said today. As a director, he’ll follow in the footsteps of J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls), who helmed the series’ first two episodes.
Developed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Lord of the Rings is described as an “epic drama” set in the Second Age of Middle-earth — thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films, and the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien on which they were based.
Following a huge ensemble of characters, as they confront the re-emergence of evil on their continent, the show will take viewers from the depths of the Misty Mountains, to the forests of elf-capital Lindon, to the stunning island kingdom of Númeno and beyond.
“It is a true honor to be invited...

Amazon is developing a series about human rights lawyer Jared Genser with Orlando Bloom attached to executive produce, Variety has learned.
The untitled series is inspired by Genser and his firm. He and his team work to free prisoners of conscience (Human Rights prisoners) in high-risk areas throughout the world’s most difficult Hot Zones. Per the show’s official description, the core team is comprised of specialized operatives with years of experience in the field. There are no guidelines. No two extractions are the same. Only precise, strategic decision making. Many of these life-saving extractions have been widely covered in international press, so much so that The New York Times deemed Jared “The Extractor.”
No writer is currently attached to the project. Bloom and Bruce Richmond will executive produce, with Genser set to co-executive produce. Amazon Studios will produce in association with Amazing Owl Productions and TrueNorth Media.

British actor Maxim Baldry (Years and Years) has signed on for a lead role in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings TV series, I have learned.
Baldry was first linked to Lotr last fall but he didn’t have a deal for the show, which was why Baldry was not part of Amazon’s Lotr cast announcement in January that included 15 other actors.
“We still have a few key roles to cast,” Amazon Co-head of TV Vernon Sanders said at the time. Baldry is believed to be playing one of those key roles, and his deal has just closed, I hear.
He joins previously cast Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and Daniel Weyman.
