There is something genuinely heartfelt about I’m ‘George Lucas’: A Connor Ratliff Story. Directed by Ryan Jacobi, the documentary tells the story of New York-based comedian Connor Ratliff and his long tenure playing “George Lucas” on The George Lucas Talk Show, an improvised, monthly comedy series designed as a late-night panel talk show in which real-life guests act as though they are conversing with the real George Lucas. We follow Ratliff through his routines preparing for each show, explaining his process along the way. Collaborators like Griffin Newman (who plays “Watto”) and Patrick Cotnoir (who produces the show) try explaining Ratliff to the viewer. The overall explanation seems to be that there is not much of an explanation. He...

Kyra Sedgwick is not in her pop culture trivia era, at least judging from her performance on a new episode of Celebrity Jeopardy!. The actor took her best crack at a category called “Also a Taylor Swift Song,” and despite throwing out a few guesses, she wasn’t able to correctly assign any of the clues to the singer’s tunes.

For example, the $200 clue reads: “This washing machine cycle using cold water and low spin speed is suggested for lingerie and silk neckties.” (Say it with us now: “Delicate!”)

Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre’s children Nina Maria Felicia Bernstein, Jamie Bernstein and Alexander Bernstein are opening up about how much their mother knew about their father’s bisexuality.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Bradley Cooper and correspondent Mo Rocca sat down with the three kids to discuss Netflix’s upcoming film Maestro, which Cooper starred in, directed and co-wrote with Josh Singer.
“Our mom was the most elegant, delicious person,” Nina said. Jamie added, “She knew exactly what the deal was.” Alexander chimed in, “They, obviously, loved each other to death. They never fought in front of us. We never saw any darkness. We felt a lot. They kept everything very well tidied and pretty well hidden.”
The segment explained that while Bernstein and Montealeagre truly loved each other, their relationship was complicated by the fact that the legendary composer had affairs with men over the course of their marriage.

CBS leads all networks, and ABC’s “General Hospital” tops all programs, as nominations for the 47th annual Daytime Awards were announced Thursday by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
“General Hospital” garnered a total of 23 nominations, followed closely by the other major TV soaps: NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” (22), CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” (21) and CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” (13). Digital drama series “Eastsiders” (Netflix) and “Studio City” (Amazon Prime Video) landed eight nods each, while among daytime talk shows, ABC’s “The View” led all competitors, with eight nominations as well.
The most-nominated kids’ series were Apple TV Plus’ “Ghostwriter” and HBO’s “Sesame Street,” also at eight nominations. Interestingly, both are programs from Sesame Workshop that were once seen on PBS in previous incarnations. (The HBO episodes of “Sesame Street” are still run in a second window on PBS.)

Charlie Pavlounis, who as chief financial officer and head of business development helped spur new lines of business at CBS News including a series of podcasts, is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities, CBS News President Susan Zirinsky told staffers in a memo Tuesday.
“I have no doubt Charlie will continue to explore his passion for combining his financial discipline with identifying new content and distribution opportunities in media during the next chapter of his impressive career,” said Zirinsky, in the memo. “We plan to announce Charlie’s successor shortly and we appreciate Charlie remaining through June so that we can have an orderly transition.”
Pavlounis, a longtime CBS Corp. employee, joined CBS News in 2015, put in place to manage the finances of the large CBS unit and identify new streams of revenue. He helped reshape CBS News’ radio business after the parent company sold its radio division in 2017 to Entercom Communications.

The passing of a fabled star like Kirk Douglas always prompts obits that are respectful, if not adulatory, replete with a signature photo – Spartacus in Douglas’ case. But now a major re-think is overtaking the obit business. Yes, even death is getting a makeover, as evidenced in several arenas.
A new documentary, Overlooked, analyzing the evolution of obits will shortly emerge from Netflix and the Obamas’ production company Higher Ground. Paramount Television is partnering with the New York Times on a doc about the rituals of obit writing. Revisionist attitudes are also explored in Mobituaries, a witty if snarky new book by Mo Rocca, the CBS commentator.
The “new journalism” of obit writing may be good news for the deceased, but the revisionist trend may also stir political angst. “Men have to accept the fact that, in the new world of diversity, they may become second-class corpses,” confides one veteran...

Spend half an hour with Mo Rocca and prepare for a conversation that veers into the unexpected.
Perhaps he will discuss the differences between the characters of Dr. Seuss and the Muppets of Jim Henson (“It turns out they are oil and water. Seuss is head. Muppets are heart”). Maybe he will talk about Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish botanist known as the father of modern taxonomy. He might tell you of a few stints working in theater. He will inevitably turn to the years he has spent as a correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning.”
And then he may quote from Sondheim, allude to “The Daily Show” or imagine a nervous stomach filled with Jolt cola. By chance, he may do all three.
These days, Rocca is adding another entry to his extremely eclectic resume. He is finding new life in the dead. His book “Mobituaries,” reexamines everyone from Thomas Paine...

Following a tweet from a CBS correspondent, Macy’s has stopped selling a plate at its 34th Street flagship store, the only location the plate was available.
A picture of the plate, which features portion-controlling slogans warning users they’re edging out of “skinny jeans” into “mom jeans,” racked up over 3,000 retweets by Monday, after CBS correspondent Alie Ward sent it out Sunday.
“How can I get these plates from @Macys banned in all 50 states,” tweeted Ward, known for her appearances on “The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation with Mo Rocca” and as the host of the CW’s “Did I Mention Invention?”

Mo Rocca, the eclectic correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning,” will stay for at least two more years at the venerable CBS News program, under the terms of a new deal struck between his representatives and the CBS Corp. unit.
Rocca, who is represented by United Talent Agency and attorney Peter Grant of Grubman Shire & Meiselas, has been with the program, anchored by Jane Pauley, since 2008. His portfolio of work often emphasizes presidential history, but has also included stories on taking a trip down the Mississippi River or Justice Scalia’s legacy at the Supreme Court.
Rocca, who was once a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” has several projects about to launch. The second season of his “Mobituaries” podcast will kick off in November of 2019. A book, “Mobituaries: Great Lives Worth Reliving,” will be released by CBS publishing arm Simon & Schuster on November 5, 2019. A live show...

“The Daily Show” has exploded the careers of its correspondents over the years. Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Wyatt Cenac, Hasan Minhaj and more became stars thanks in large part to their work as fake newsmen and newswomen on the series. But they have never been recognized for their work on-screen. That could change this year because “The Daily Show” has finally entered its correspondents for consideration — as guest actors.
Two women are in the running for Best Comedy Guest Actress for the show: Desi Lydic and Dulce Sloan. And four men are up for consideration for Best Comedy Guest Actor: Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Roy Wood Jr. and Jaboukie Young-White. The chief requirement to be considered as guest actors at the Emmys is to appear in less than 50% of all eligible episodes. “The Daily Show” airs four nights a week, so even though its correspondents probably...
