Apple Music named its top 10 albums of all time and it focused entirely on popular music. While some older records showed up on the list, the top spot was taken by Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Hill herself reacted to this ranking.
Lauryn Hill wouldn’t have made Apple Music’s top 10 albums without ‘sacrifice’
In 2024, Apple Music named The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the greatest album ever. It beat out several other classics. The rest of the top 10 were, in ascending order, Beyoncé’s Lemonade, Nirvana’s Nevermind, Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black, Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life, Frank Ocean’s Blonde, Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain, The Beatles’ Abbey Road, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Roger Corman, the pioneering producer and director, known affectionately as “the king of B movies,” passed away on May 9 at his home in Santa Monica, California. Corman had as much influence over modern Hollywood as Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese. And for good reason: Without him there likely wouldn’t even have been a Spielberg or Scorsese.
This maker of hundreds of low-budget horror, sci-fi, and exploitation films is to this day remembered by many, and rather unfairly, as a B-movie hack, but Corman’s aesthetic sensibilities have come to dominate the franchises we now call tent poles, and his protégés number among the most influential people in cinema. And he enjoyed every minute of it.
Corman came off as very humble, resembling no one so much as Mr. Rogers. He laughed at himself and his experiences frequently. Many of the movies that he made were ridiculous but they were knowingly so.

Being one of the MCU’s beloved characters, Captain America has been involved in numerous projects. Currently, there’s a movie in the works centered on Sam Wilson’s Captain America, slated for release in 2025. Additionally, recent rumors suggest that Chris Evans’s Captain America may come out of retirement.
Reportedly, Chris Evans is set to return in a limited series that follows Captain America’s journey to return the Infinity Stones to their rightful places in time, as per MyTimeToShineHello.
The concept does seem intriguing, especially considering that the process depicted in the movies was glossed over and rushed. This rumor gains further traction from other recent reports suggesting that Evans has already signed on to reprise his former role.

As one of the most popular MCU characters, Captain America has quite a few projects under his belt. There’s a movie currently in production revolving around Sam Wilson’s Captain America, bound to be released in 2025. And, if the latest rumors are to be trusted, Chris Evan’s Captain America will be pulled out of his retirement as well.
According to MyTimeToShineHello, Chris Evans will be returning to a limited series focused on Captain America returning Infinity Stones to their proper place in time.
The concept does sounds intriguing since the process we’ve seen in the movies was simply glossed over and rushed. The rumor is further supported by other recent rumors that Evans has apparently already signed an agreement to return to his former role.

Farmer Wants A Wife Season 2 cast member Brandon Rogers recently dished on some behind-the-scenes tea, including the drama between Joy Mayfield and Reba Wood. So, what did Brandon have to say about everything that went down?
Farmer Wants A Wife: Brandon Rogers Had His Hands Full This Season
It’s hard enough to live on and run a successful farm. It’s a lifestyle that not everyone is suited for. When it comes to Brandon Rogers and his future, he, along with the other farmers, had to figure out if they could find love with someone long-term.
For many farmers like Brandon Rogers, living in an isolated area while trying to run a farm means there isn’t a lot of time and energy to devote to his dating life. So, that’s where Farmer Wants A Wife came in. In theory, the show did a lot of the...

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame marked its five-year anniversary on April 30, and composer Alan Silvestri has now explained why he feels one sequence in particular has had such a lasting impact.
We are, of course, referring to the "Portals" scene.
During the climactic battle, Thanos manages to defeat Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America - but Steve Rogers isn't about to stay down. As the Sentinel of Liberty dusts himself off and prepares to fight until his last breath, he hears a familiar "on your left," and turns around to see Black Panther and the others recently-revived heroes assembling through Doctor Strange and Wong's mystical portals.
While speaking to Games Radar, Silvestri said he believes this moment has become so beloved and iconic because of what Rogers had experienced in the build-up.
"The spectacle [of Portals] is ultimately overwhelming, but I think it's emotional because we've never seen every ounce of optimism destroyed in Captain America,...

Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers were friends for decades, drawn together by an electric current of energy . Parton and Rogers had such good rapport that rumors of an affair between them circulated for years. Both denied having ever acted on their feelings, but they said they felt the chemistry between them from the moment they met.
Dolly Parton met Kenny Rogers on the set of her TV show
In 1976, Parton waded deeper into the pool of her talents by hosting a variety show, Dolly. One of her earliest guests was Rogers. She said that his appearance on her show marked the beginning of their crackling chemistry.
“Kenny Rogers was also a guest on that early show,” she wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “That began the chemistry that would make such a hit with the public in our future projects together. There was something about the combination that just worked.

Dolly Parton has collaborated with many musicians over the years, and she says she often gets along well with them. Some, like Reba McEntire, are lifelong friends and others, like Kenny Rogers, became the subject of tabloid fodder about her love life. One artist with whom Parton sang a duet on her 1976 variety show, Dolly, always had a place in her heart.

In 1976, Parton welcomed country musician Tom T. Hall on her variety show, Dolly. They each performed a handful of songs and sang duets on “Sneaky Snake” and “I Love.”

In a letter announcing her third album, Don’t Forget Me, singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers says she got inspired for her latest project by creating a “younger Thelma & Louise,” using that storytelling vessel to navigate difficult personal truths of her own. Such self-exploring wanderlust has been a common theme for Rogers, an artist who proclaimed “I found myself when I was going everywhere” on her first LP. Maggie Rogers’s music has always felt independent of pop trends, and the singer-songwriter’s third studio album, Don’t Forget Me, likewise sounds unlike anything else being released at the moment. The album’s 10 brisk, lightly rocking songs evoke the radio-friendly pop-rock of early-2000s Sheryl Crow or Jewel while sometimes, as on the title track, looking further back to ’70s soft rock a la Carole King.
Written across the course of just five days, and consisting mostly of first-take recordings, Don’t Forget Me boasts a certain off-the-cuff charm, a first-thought-best-thought quality emblematic of an increasingly confident songwriter. “So Sick of Dreaming,” a swaying indie-pop tune filled with barbs directed at Rogers’s ex for ditching her to go to a ballgame, embodies the album’s carefree ethos. “And by the way, the Knicks lost,” she quips.
The songs on Don’t Forget Me are diaristic but rarely confessional.

A darkly comic crime odyssey set in middle-of-nowhere America, writer-director Shane Atkinson’s Laroy, Texas wears its Coen brothers influence on its sleeve. And while it never quite reaches the hilarious heights or existential depths of the Coens’ finest work, it does offer similarly enjoyable mixture of the macabre and the absurd.
Atkinson’s film begins with a regular schmuck named Ray (John Magaro) being summoned to a greasy diner and handed an envelope full of photos that show his wife, Stacy-Lynn (Megan Stevenson), cheating on him. It’s devastating information to receive, and it doesn’t help that Ray is hearing it from a guy like Skip (Steve Zahn)—a self-styled private eye who dresses in a bolo tie and cowboy hat, and swears that he’s as much of a detective as any of the other boys on the force, even if he has spelled the word incorrectly on his business cards.

[Editor’s note: Spoilers for “Ripley” below.]
The turning point for “Ripley,” Steven Zaillian’s limited Netflix series re-imagining of Patricia Highsmith’s crime novel, “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” occurs in Episode 3 (“Sommerso”), when grifter Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott) murders Dickie (Johnny Flynn) in a boat in Sanremo. But the grifter discovers that murder is a filthy business in a bravura 20-minute sequence, in which he has difficulty disposing of Dickie’s body, and we observe every arduous moment in close to real-time.
This protracted view of Tom’s twisted mind in action is made even more menacing in black-and-white (shot by “There Will Be Blood” Oscar winner Robert Elswit). After learning that his grift has come to a sudden end, Tom grabs the oar and beats Dickie to death. But then everything goes wrong.

Tokyo Vice is a crime drama series that explores the dark criminal underbelly of Tokyo through the lens of an American journalist. In “Tokyo Vice,” honor is a double-edged katana. On one end sits Ozaki (Bokuzō Masana), the Meicho Shimbun newspaper executive who confesses to Emi (Rinko Kikuchi) that he was the one who destroyed the Yoshino videotape — although “confesses” is too generous a word. Ozaki solves her season-long mystery without batting an eye, before mansplaining his action as if Emi is an idiot. He had to destroy the tape. If the Meicho ran a story about a government official’s involvement in the murder of a hostess, then the paper would be frozen out of government business for years. “And how would that serve our readers?” he asks. So now that Emi has brought him further evidence against prime-minister-in-waiting Jotaro Shigematsu (Hajime Inoue), proving his ties to Yakuza leader Shinzo Tozama (Ayumi Tanida), the dignified thing to do is turn over her documents to the proper parties,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Tokyo Vice,” now streaming on Max.
Season 2 of “Tokyo Vice,” the neo-noir crime drama set in Tokyo, Japan, and loosely based on a memoir written by journalist Jake Adelstein, has come to a close in an explosive finale that both sent off the series’ main, two-season running antagonist — and laid the foundation for what could potentially come from the Max thriller if a third season were to be greenlit.
The show stars Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe, and tells the story of a Japanese-fluent American writer (Elgort) who works his way into covering crime for one of Tokyo’s most prominent newspapers. In the process, he forges an unlikely bond with a dogged local police detective, Hiroto Katagiri (Watanabe), with the duo sharing information and working together to untangle sordid yakuza activities.

A new report suggests that Prime Video could become home to Monday night NHL streams in Canada during each of the next two seasons.
Amazon’s next big sports move may not affect American customers, but it could still represent a seismic shift for the company. The Las Culturistas Culture Awards, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, is moving to the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn for its third annual show satirizing and celebrating moments in culture that could only be dreamt up on their podcast.
The ceremony, which will take place June 15, typically consists of 100 categories brainstormed by Yang and Rogers, with some mainstays including record of the year and the Cate Blanchett award for good acting. The “fake awards show” is meant to poke fun at the big awards shows of the year and has included musical performances, celebrity appearances and video acceptance speeches from the likes of Blanchett (a winner in her own category) and Taylor Swift (a two-time winner, including in the category of Best Taylor Swift).
As for whether Swift could be a participant in this year’s ceremony, Rogers and Yang are leaving the option open.

Jay-Z wasn’t too impressed with Rihanna after one of her songs failed. A dance track changed everything for Rihanna. One of her songwriters decided to give her a Madonna-inspired musical makeover and it paid off big time. It also changed the trajectory of Rihanna’s life.
1 Rihanna song stopped Jay-Z from dropping her from his label

Rihanna‘s songs have changed pop culture forever. That doesn’t mean she thinks all of them are great. She had mixed feelings about her first single, coating it to a nursery rhyme. One of the song’s writers said the tune would set her on the path to becoming pop culture royalty.
Rihanna wasn’t too impressed with 1 song when she heard it over the phone
“Pon de Replay” was co-written by Alisha Brooks, Vada Nobles, Carl Sturken, and Evan Rogers. It’s not one of the more sophisticated tunes in her catalog but it’s undeniably catchy. On top of that, artists rarely debut with their best work. During a 2020 interview with Vulture, Rogers revealed that Rihanna had misgivings about the track. “I played it for Rihanna over the phone,” he recalled. “She was like ‘Uncle Ev, it sounds like a nursery rhyme. I like it, but I don’t know.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the Season 2 premiere of HBO’s “Tokyo Vice,” now streaming on Max.
“Jake is being a very bad boy…”
That’s how Ken Watanabe, who plays detective Hiroto Katagiri, described Jake Adelstein’s (Ansel Elgort) actions at the end of “Tokyo Vice’s” Season 2 premiere. The second season picks off right where Season 1 ended in April 2022 and plugs viewers back into the neon-lit streets of Tokyo’s underbelly.
Loosely based on the memoir written by journalist Jake Adelstein, “Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan,” the show follows Adelstein as he works with detective Katagiri to expose the atrocities committed by the yakuza and dismantle organized crime in the city.
The jaw-dropping Season 2 premiere, which debuted on Max with two episodes, saw Jake, the Japan-based journalist, for lack of a better phrase, “sealing the deal” with Shinzo Tozawa’s (Ayumi Tanida) girlfriend,...

The first Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 season is on the horizon, and the entry list for the women's edition of the Australian Open has been released.
Running from January 14th to 28th, next year's Australian Open will have a historic Sunday start. One hundred twenty-eight women will compete in the biggest party of Australian summer, but only one player will be lucky enough to emerge from the fortnight with the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.
The Australian Open is played on outdoor hard courts at its famed home - Melbourne Park. It's been ten years since there was a successful title defense in the women's tournament, so is that trend likely to continue, or will Belarus Aryna Sabalenka defend the crown she won 12 months ago?
Looking at the entry list, Iga Swiatek will be the top seed for the second year in a row thanks to her scintillating run of...

Maggie Rogers teased an upcoming new song in a post she shared to social media on New Year’s Day.
“See you in 2024,” Rogers captioned a screen-recorded clip of what appears to be “Don’t Forget Me,” a song she’s tested out in a handful of recent live performances (including at Newport Folk Festival in 2023) and in a TikTok last summer. “So close the door and change the channel/ Give me somethin’ I can handle/ A good lover or someone that’s nice to me,” she belts in the chorus over some twangy, fingerpicked strings.
Rogers didn’t clarify a release date aside from it arriving sometime in 2024, so that could mean any day now. Stream the preview of “Don’t Forget Me” below.
Rogers’ last album was 2022’s Surrender, and in January, she teamed up with Zach Bryan on his single “Dawns.”
