Law & Order has had a rotating roster of actors through its many years on air and various spin-offs. But there was one familiar actor on the show who was admittedly brought on for the sake of eye candy.
This actor was brought on to replace Angie Harmon because of her looks Elisabeth Rohm and Sam Waterson | Jessica Burstein/NBCUniversal/Getty Images
Law & Order fans may have fond memories of Harmon’s character Abbie Carmichael on the show. The actor portrayed the young Ada from seasons 9 to 11, while also making a guest appearance on the spin-off Svu. As is the case with many actors, Harmon left the show simply to pursue other career opportunities.
“I left Law and Order because I really honestly did want to do movies and did want to be a movie star since I was a little girl,” Harmon once said according to Cinema Confidential.

In Thursday night’s episode of “Law & Order,” Mehcad Brooks’ police detective character Jalen Shaw find himself inadvertently perpetuating the racism of the prison system when he learns, too late, that a young male suspect whose confession he’s obtained is actually innocent.
“This young man is waiting for his trial. He’s been at Rikers for 18 months, he’s being abused and assaulted on Rikers on a daily basis. So he decides to escape. We find out that he’s innocent, through a video that never surfaced later. And then the problem is, during his escape, the kid takes a hostage, and things go sideways,” Brooks says of the episode, titled “The System.”
“There’s a system in place that is filled with traps for people,” Brooks said of the episode. “Jalen became a lawyer and a cop to fight the system in particular, this setup for stealing Black people’s joy,...

Elisabeth Röhm, who played Ada Serena Southerlyn on “Law & Order” from 2001 to 2005, returned after 17 years to direct last week’s episode “Only the Lonely” through NBCU’s Launch Female Forward program.
“It’s poetic to come back at this juncture of my life,” Röhm told TheWrap. “Dick Wolf gave me my first opportunity as an actress, and he gave me my first opportunity as an episodic director.”
“It’s almost surreal. I can’t explain how monumental it was to share in those scenes with the new cast. Odelya especially, just to help her, elevate her, support her, and help develop that character. And just be a part of the story of the new reboot,” said Röhm about the episode, in which Odelya Halevi’s character, Ada Samantha Maroun, stands up for a female witness, played by Alysia Reiner, whose reputation as a lawyer will be ruined if she’s forced to testify.

Eight weeks into Season 22 of The Voice, NBC’s sing-off really came to life — at least in so far as it went live Monday for the Playoffs. All 16 remaining contestants performed in hopes of earning enough viewer votes to advance or so impressing Blake Shelton, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and/or Camila Cabello that their coach would save them or another coach would steal them during Tuesday’s results show.
Now, before we get to discussing the pivotal episode, I want to apologize in advance for my grading. Like the singing, it’s done live, in the moment, so all of my reactions are knee-jerk.

CBS’ “East New York” is the latest police procedural among the broadcast networks, and so far it’s been attempting to paint a more nuanced picture of the relationship between the community and law enforcement in the city’s 74th precinct.
The series follows new Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood (Amanda Warren) as she tries to implement drastic change that will hopefully improve the distrust that people have for police, including encouraging her cops to focus less on petty crime and starting a community policing initiative. It marks a sign of change for police procedurals, which commonly depict cops going unchecked as they chase criminals — many of whom perpetuate harmful stereotypes about marginalized communities.
“What captivated me from the [previous police procedurals] were the characters in it [and] their views on how they approach their jobs versus how it would traditionally conventionally done,” showrunner Mike Flynn told TheWrap in a recent interview. “I wanted to...

The episode, titled “Only the Lonely,” follows the investigation and trial in the murder of a high-level crisis consultant, who made many enemies in her career.

Longtime viewers may remember her surprising exit, in which her character was fired by District Attorney Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson) for not being hard-nosed enough. Privileged teenager Aiden (Edouard Philipponnat) is working to get his life back on track. His lucrative side hustle dealing drugs to his classmates and his own personal addiction has forced his distraught mother (Elizabeth Röhm) to turn him over to the police. “As many of you know, Anne remains in critical condition. And all of us here at Lifetime are deeply concerned for her and everyone affected,” Amy Winter, executive VP and head of programming, said.

Lifetime’s upcoming movie Girl In Room 13, starring Anne Heche, is still scheduled to premiere in September, the network said during the film’s panel Thursday at the Television Critics Association virtual press tour. Amy Winter, executive VP and head of programming, addressed the issue at the top of the panel, and asked reporters to refrain from asking questions about the actor’s health status.
“As many of you know, Anne remains in critical condition and all of us here at Lifetime are deeply concerned for her and everyone affected,” Winter said. “We hope that her friends and family stay strong during this difficult time. In 1980, the auspiciously named first baseman Willie Mays Aikens made baseball history when he hit two home runs in two World Series games, a feat that wasn’t repeated until 2009. That year, the Kansas City Royals player was second in home runs and RBIs only to teammate, friend and future Hall of Famer, George Brett.
Directed by Marcel Sarmiento, “The Royal” isn’t obsessed with Aikens’ on-the-field triumphs. Instead — with a script by Gregory W. Jordan, based on the 2012 book he co-wrote with Aiken, “Willie Mays Aikens: Safe at Home” — the movie recounts what happened to the major league slugger after he served 14 years for crack cocaine possession and distribution.
In 1994, under the inequitable federal sentencing guidelines, Aikens was sentenced to more than 20 years for possession with intent to sell 50 grams of crack cocaine. (He’d have had to be in possession of five kilos of powdered coke to receive a similar sentence.

We already know that Sam Waterston’s Jack McCoy and Anthony Anderson’s Kevin Bernard are set to return for NBC’s upcoming Law & Order revival. But it looks like a third familiar face will also make their way back to the Dick Wolf procedural.
“The hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week,” Waterston told Variety, hinting at the return of another popular character. Although he couldn’t reveal who exactly would be dropping by, he did say that they are “one of my favorite people on Earth” and that “you’ll be glad when you see her.

“Law & Order” is bringing back yet another familiar face. While NBC previously announced that Sam Waterston and Anthony Anderson will both be reprising their roles of D.A. Jack McCoy and Detective Kevin Bernard, respectively, they aren’t the only ones stepping back into the courtroom — and the list of possible guest stars is endless.
“One of the wonderful things about doing a television show in New York like this with really juicy parts for visitors is that there’s this extraordinary pool of talent of New York actors. So, the hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week,” Waterston tells Variety, before hinting at one of those surprises. “There is a person coming back in the first show, one of my favorite people on Earth. I’m not allowed to tell who that is, but you’ll be glad when you see her.

Anna Ramirez is a better person than I could ever dream of being.
Lifetime brought all the angst, drama, and high emotions with Switched Before Birth, in which real tales of IVF inspired the film, and it served as a rallying cry for why the procedure desperately needs federal regulation.
It could spare so much heartache and harm.
Lifetime veteran Elisabeth Röhm worked her magic behind the scenes directing as Switched Before Birth saw her reunited with former Family Pictures costar Justina Machado.
Machado and Samuels, our two leading ladies, brought so much to these roles. You could feel their anguish, anger, grief, and more as we followed their journeys from expressing the difficulties of infertility to fighting each other for their son. They were phenomenal.
Infertility is such a heartwrenching disease, and it doesn't get the same weight as many other things.

The story of the congenitally amputated Nick Newell reconstructs the fights efficiently but overrides his real struggles with a sub-Rocky storyline
This mixed martial arts-based flick goes one further than kung-fu classic One-Armed Swordsman in being based on real events: the improbable rise of “Notorious” Nick Newell, who had a congenital amputation of the left arm, to his winning the Xtreme Fighting Championship (Xfc) belt in 2012. Cody Christian, a little digital shimmer occasionally showing on his VFX-severed limb, puts in a committed shift as Newell in a brisk biopic that is a bit over-planed but can hardly fail to inspire.
Encouraged by his mother, Stacey (Elisabeth Röhm), Newell joins his school wrestling squad, where he is nicknamed “Elbow” by students high on the douchebag scale. But it is only when bosom buddy Abi (Cameron James Matthews) is killed in a motorbike accident, while the pair are battling through local Mma qualifying rounds,...

Elisabeth Röhm’s new Lifetime movie “Girl in the Basement” is “a call to action about abuse on a very significant level,” the director told TheWrap.
The film stars Judd Nelson as a father who locks his daughter (played by Stefanie Scott) in the basement for 20 years, raping and assaulting her, and even fathering multiple children with her. Meanwhile, her mom and sister live upstairs and believe she ran away to start a new life away from them.
To many, this story might ring a bell. In 2008, Elisabeth Fritzl told Austrian police she had been held captive by her father for 24 years, which resulted in the birth of seven children who remained in captivity with her. While “Girl in the Basement” takes elements from the Fritzl case, Röhm said there were actual multiple stories that inspired the screenplay for her movie.

“I was the person who never had that voice — my voice was, ‘you will never direct,'” Sedgwick said. “I’ve been working professionally as an actor from the time I was 16 and I’d worked with a lot of legendary directors, all of whom were men… my loving husband kept saying to me, ‘you have such big opinions about the way things are directed… what about the concept of you directing one day?...

Jerry O’Connell deserved better. Frankly, anyone does than this, though O’Connell in particular is a solid actor who has thrived in raunchy comedies before. However, this marks a career low-point, if not for him (he at least still tries) than his agent for passing this script on to him. Ballbuster is one of the worst movies that I’ve seen in years, deeply unfunny, indifferently made, and downright embarrassing for its cast and crew. That anyone gave money for this to be made boggles the mind. It’s being released today, though a more apt description is that it’s escaping. Avoid it at all costs. The flick is, supposedly, a comedy, though all evidence to the contrary. After an opening sequence showcasing how tough his father was on him, we meet star basketball player Rich Johnson (O’Connell) in his waning years. Trying to win his new team their first championship,...

Lifetime has done it again with a harrowing but thoughtful film on domestic abuse.
Sleeping With Danger is the first in a two-night true crime series based on Ann Rule's Mortal Danger True Crime Collection.
And with incredibly strong performances by Elisabeth Röhm and Antonio Cupo, powerful writing, and artful direction and more, Lifetime delivered a compelling and impactful piece.
When Kim Raver and Manu Boyer come together with Lifetime for films, magic seems to happen. We've seen it before with the Jane Green book-to-series event, and we are seeing it again now.
It's something about the style of their films that feels unique for the network. Their movies are elevated and high-brow.
They never exhibit a hint of camp, and they somehow skirt that indie vibe that's just a touch dramatic.
Remarkably, a network that can bring us cheesy Christmas movies and campy thrillers also excels with some of the most beautifully crafted,...
