Duncan James has revealed that he was "so frightened" when The News of the World broke the news that he was bisexual that he had to flee the country.
The 34-year-old singer, who is a quarter of boyband Blue, said that when the tabloid newspaper printed the article in 2009, he "couldn't even be in the UK".
Speaking candidly on ITV2's The Big Reunion tonight (March 21), James opened up about his past struggles with coming to terms with his sexuality following a religious upbringing.
"Being brought up as a strict Catholic, the whole gay thing in my head was bad and wrong," he said during the programme. "And it wasn't until I was in the band, being around other gay guys, understanding that actually you can be gay. It's alright to like other guys."
The 'All Rise' singer also spoke about having "a secret undercover relationship" with one of Blue's male backing dancers.

Boyband Blue have been added to ITV2's The Big Reunion series.
The pop nostalgia show, which has reunited '90s and early '00s pop acts such as B*Witched, 911 and 5ive, has expanded its lineup to include the four-piece.
Blue - who are made up of Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan Jones and Anthony Costa - formed in 2000 and scored hits with tracks such as 'All Rise', 'Too Close' and 'If You Come Back'.
They originally split in 2005, but reunited in 2009 and have been working together on-and-off since then. They famously represented the UK in Eurovision in 2011 with the track 'I Can', finishing 11th.
Technically the group are not 'reuniting' for the show as they released a new album - Roulette - in several European countries earlier this year. The group are expected to release the record in the UK later this year.
