Over his vibrantly colourful career, which has crossed the half-century mark and is still going strong, Amitabh Bachchan was paired with several generations of heroines and held his own against many male peers, as well as older and younger generations spanning Dilip Kumar to Shah Rukh Khan. His real test, however, was to maintain the upper hand when facing accomplished character actors, ranging from dastardly villains to steadfast friends, and even long-lost parents.
There are many such actors playing key roles in some of Bachchan’s iconic films – would Inspector Vijay Khanna been successful in tackling crime without the tip-offs from an anonymous drunk or proved his mettle against a lesser villain than Teja, would “(the fake) Don” have worked without the acumen of Dsp D’Silva or found himself in travails without the machinations of Vardhaman, or Sikandar found his ‘muqaddar’ without the advice of Dervish Baba.

Girish Karnad was one of the true intellectuals of post Independent India. A polyglot, playwright, actor, film maker, aesthete, scholar, teacher, critic and a humanist Girish was never a close friend but someone whom I always looked forward to meeting.
We came to know each other around 1972 through several common friends like Shyam Benegal, Basu Chatterjee, Satyadev Dubey and B.V. Karanth though I was acquainted with his work from the mid-sixties. His plays 'Yayati' (1961), 'Tughlaq' (1964), 'Hayavadana' (1972) and 'Nagamandala' (1988) rank among the finest Indian plays post-Independence.
A Rhodes scholar, Girish interestingly started by reading Mathematics in college. He was to become a scholar in history, literature, cinema and stagecraft. He was steeped in Indian tradition and had a deep study of our mythology, specially the Mahabharata.
He has won practically every award which an artiste in India can aspire for - Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Kalidas Samman, Jnanpith Award,...

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says that no one had approved the title of his 1978 hit movie Don?because the makers felt that the name was not fit for a title of a Hindi film.
Don?clocked 41 years on the silver screen on Sunday and the 76-year-old thespian took to his blog to write about the film.
"Don??was a name title that no one in the market approved of. They (makers) never understood what it meant and never felt that a name such as 'Don' was material for the title of a Hindi film. In fact if truth be told -- for many it was quite an amusing title," Big B wrote.
The Piku?star said that the film's title phonetically sounded like an undergarment brand.
"There was at the time a very popular brand of vests, the 'banyain', that were carrying the name 'Dawn'. 'Don' pronounced phonetically sounded much like...
