With a number of movies and TV series that have become hugely popular, Nicholas Galitzine has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors over the past few years. The actor, 29, who began his acting career in 2014 with The Beat Beneath My Feet, first caught the interest of viewers when he was cast in the lead role of the 2021 Cinderella flick opposite Camila Cabello. In the musical film, he assumed the role of Prince Robert.
Having starred in Bottoms, Red, White & Royal Blue, and most recently, The Idea of You, he had a busy previous year. In the latter, which was adapted from the same-titled book, he starred as Hayes Campbell alongside Anne Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway opened up about what she hoped to achieve with the intimate love scenes in her new movie The Idea of You.
The 41-year-old actress stars in the romance alongside Nicholas Galitzine. During a recent interview, she and director Michael Showalter were asked if there were conversations about “how explicit” the love scenes would be.
She replied by revealing what became the “North Star” to their onset love scenes.

Speaking to Variety, Anne explained how she looked to Robinne Lee‘s novel that inspired the movie for inspiration.
“Intimate acts! In the book, Robinne describes intimate acts with the most unbelievable energy. In their first physical sexual connection, Hayes brings Solène to orgasm while [she is fully] clothed,” she recalled. “That became our North Star in terms of expressing cinematic sex in a way that makes it about her pleasure, while also making the point that...

Despite their rom com-heavy résumés, Anne Hathaway and actor-turned-director Michael Showalter had never met prior to collaborating on the May-December love story “The Idea of You,” which bows May 2 on Amazon Prime Video. Unless you count that one time at Beverly Hills’ Gucci Osteria, which in 2022 was the site of a dinner party to celebrate Jessica Chastain’s Oscar nomination for the Showalter-directed film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
“I wanted to talk to Anne, but I was too embarrassed,” Showalter recalls of the soiree. “The path of least resistance is to just not talk to anybody.” Adds Hathaway with a chuckle: “I couldn’t figure out how to breach my wall of shyness.”
Months later, Hathaway conquered her timidity when she recruited Showalter to co-write and direct “The Idea of You,” in which the star of “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Princess Diaries” portrays a 40-year-old single mother...

Times are a-changing and no one could be happier for it than Anne Hathaway, who once had to kiss ten men just so she could find her right romantic partner for a movie. Here’s what she has to say about the experience.
Anne Hathaway – Says She Kissed Ten Men Because She Didn’t Want To Be Labeled “Difficult”
Anne Hathaway is the star of the moment. Apart from going viral for her androgynous look, which she rocked for the cover shoot of V magazine, she’s also blown the mind of the internet just by telling us how the industry used to be back in the old days.
During her chat with V magazine for the cover feature, the “Princess Diaries” star shared that in the 2000s, “it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it.

Cathy Schulman says getting into the movie business was a “bit of an accident.” It was a time before studying cinema was recognized as a fine art, so she was a playwrighting major at Yale. Then someone told her she would average about $1,500 for her plays. Concerned if she could support herself, she was advised to look into the movie business. “I said, ‘What’s that?’” Schulman, now the CEO and president of Welle Entertainment, recalls. “And the next thing you knew, I was in an interview, and I was hired to work on a set, and the rest is history.”
The movie was “Blue Steel,” and the-then 22-year-old Schulman was excited to see the film was being directed by a woman, Kathryn Bigelow. (She didn’t know it would be another 20 years before she worked with a female director.) From those humble beginnings, Schulman would go on to enormous...

Anne Hathaway opened up this week about her experience “back in the 2000s” being asked to kiss “ten guys” for a chemistry read.
“I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited,” Hathaway told V Magazine. She didn’t specify what project the audition was for.
“I thought it sounded gross,” she continued. “And I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it.”
Hathaway said this practice was “considered normal” during the early aughts. “It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me,” she said. “It was just a very different time and now we know better.

Anne Hathaway said in a new interview with V Magazine ahead of the release of her upcoming movie “The Idea of You” that chemistry tests have come a long way since her auditioning days in the 2000s. Nicholas Galitzine may have told his parents that he has a lot of sex scenes in “Mary & George” with both women and men, but that didn’t keep things from getting awkward when his mom and dad were by his side at the series’ London premiere.

Despite rumors that The Idea of You is a work of Harry Styles fan fiction (or a reimagining of Notting Hill), Michael Showalter’s frothy romantic comedy stands on its own with a lot of good old-fashioned star power. “You’re not even a person till you’re 30,” says a friend to Solène Marchand (Anne Hathaway), a single woman celebrating her 40th birthday. “Then you spend the next 10 years figuring out what kind of person you want to be.” In The Idea of You, adapted from the Robinne Lee romance novel that was ostensibly based on fan fiction about erstwhile One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles, age is only a problem insomuch as other people make it one, rooting its romantic complications in the somehow still revolutionary idea that people (and women specifically) grow and bloom throughout every phase of life.

Given some of the star-studded titles that have closed out SXSW in previous years, a romantic comedy that could best be described as Harry Styles Wish Fulfillment might seem like an odd choice to round out the festival. But “The Idea of You,” a Michael Showalter adaptation of Robinne Lee’s book of the same name, proves that romantic comedies, when done well, are every bit as deserving of the red carpet rollout.

Robinne Lee’s 2017 debut novel “The Idea of You” followed an almost 40-year-old woman who enters a romance with the star of a giant boyband sensation. The book was a giant hit, in no small part due to fans viewing one of the main characters as a stand-in for One Direction’s Harry Styles. Now comes a movie adaptation from the director of “The Big Sick,” which translates the novel while making enough changes to improve upon the source material, including a fantastic ending that puts a perfect bow on the story.
Like all rom-coms, “The Idea of You” starts with a meet-cute — and this one is pretty magical. Anne Hathaway is stellar as single mother Solène, who stumbles upon the lead singer of one of the hottest boybands on the planet, Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine) after she mixes the singer’s trailer for a restroom at Coachella. The thing is,...

Rom-coms are a staple of cinema and have been for decades. Right alongside action movies and horror flicks, these tales of romance infused with humor are often there to help anchor any given year at the movies. Yet, they are often viewed as nothing more than popcorn movies; the cinematic equivalent of empty calories. Director Michael Showalter's "The Idea of You" is here to remind us that these movies can be so much more than that. At their best, they can be illuminating experiences that shed meaningful light on the human condition. Thanks in no small part to a stellar performance by Anne Hathaway and a star-making turn for Nicholas Galitzine, this is the genre at its best.

In Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You, based on the novel by Robinne Lee, Amazon MGM Studios brings to the screen a narrative that tantalizes with the prospect of exploring the complexities of love, age disparity and the pursuit of happiness in the digital age. Anchored by Anne Hathaway’s Solene, a single mother and art gallery owner, and Nicholas Galitzine’s Hayes Campbell, a young pop star from the fictional band August Moon, the film sets its sights on charting the course of an unconventional romance, but the script muddles it all up to produce a somewhat funny, somewhat entertaining, albeit overly long romantic comedy.
Solene is a Californian art gallery owner and single mother who had initially planned a solo camping trip. However, her plans are rerouted when she assumes the responsibility of taking her daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) to Coachella, after Izzy’s father, Daniel (Reid Scott...

When you’re 10, it sounds like every line your favorite boy band sings is being aimed directly at you. Somewhere along the way, the illusion shatters. Teenagers are smarter than we give them credit for, and they eventually figure out how parasocial relationships operate: Basically, the fans do all the work, saving up for concert tickets and glitter-painting their idols’ names on their notebooks, while the lab-tested singers soak up all the love … and the allowance money. But what if, instead of the feelings flowing in one direction, a pop star fell hard for one of his followers? Or her mom?

The Idea of You, the new romantic comedy from Michael Showalter (The Big Sick), begins like many of the best in its genre: a meet-cute so silly it endears.
This one happens in a trailer that Solene (a delightful Anne Hathaway) confuses for a restroom during Coachella. The almost-40-year-old divorcée wasn’t supposed to be in the desert surrounded by neon-clad adolescents shrieking at the top of their lungs. If Solene had it her way, she would be on a solo camping trip somewhere in the woods with only her thoughts. But her ex-husband Daniel (Reid Scott) bailed on his plan to take their 16-year-old daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) and her friends to see an old favorite band August Moon, an international group modeled after One Direction. Now, Solene is stuck navigating a sea of youthful energy and looking for a place to pee.
With bladder relief comes company.

At the first moment of physical contact between Anne Hathway and Nicholas Galitzine in “The Idea of You” — a light touch of the hands — the crowd at the film’s SXSW world premiere completely lost it. By the time the actors were kissing, the gasps, shrieks and applause were deafening.
Hathaway was overcome with emotion as she took the stage for a post-screening Q&a at Austin’s Paramount Theater.

SXSW 2024 is set to come to a close with one of the most anticipated romance movies of the year when “The Idea of You” has its world premiere on Saturday night.
Michael Showalter’s adaptation of the bestselling book by Robinne Lee stars Anne Hathaway as an art gallery owner who begins dating a beloved teen pop star after taking her daughter to one of his concerts. The novel became a viral sensation when it came out in 2017, with much of its success attributed to the fact that the musician character was viewed as a stand-in for Harry Styles. But now that Nicolas Galitzine has stepped into the role of fictional pop star Hayes Campbell, he hopes that fans see his character as his own unique creation.
In a recent interview with Variety, the “Red, White, and Royal Blue” star dismissed the idea that his character in “The Idea of You” is based on Styles.

You can tell it’s spring.
In Vermont, sap flows out of maple trees. But for Hollywood, movies go off like fireworks in the Lone Star State at SXSW.
The third edition of the Austin festival since coming out of the pandemic — and dual strikes — hasn’t lost its shine: When it comes to creating an “it” movie for the spring or summer, SXSW remains a helluva tastemaker event to stoke the 18-34 crowd.
It’s where A Quiet Place triggered its first screams in 2018 before morphing into a $638M franchise (the third film is due this summer), and it’s where Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2022 began its yearlong journey to Oscars 2023, taking home several trophies including Best Picture — a first for any SXSW world premiere.

The 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival — which runs March 8–16 in Austin, Texas — has cooked up an eclectic spread of studio crowd-pleasers, enterprising TV premieres, and indie gems aiming to break through. Here is some of the most promising fare.
Babes
The canon of Ilana Glazer-led indies about childbearing expands. Following 2021’s “False Positive,” Glazer plays pregnant once again in “Babes,” this time from a film script she wrote with Josh Rabinowitz in Pamela Adlon’s feature directorial debut. The Neon comedy follows Eden (Glazer), who gets pregnant from a one-night stand and seeks help from Dawn (Michelle Buteau), a married mother of two. In other words, “Babes” lets the “Broad City” star do what she does best: lean heavily on the support of a best buddy.
