Mayim Bialik is talking about reviving Blossom but if it comes back it won’t be the bubbly sitcom that audiences remember.
“I’m happy to tell you that, yes, it’s true. All of the cast and the original creator and producers are on board, and we believe a reboot can and should exist once the strike ends,” Bialik told Vanity Fair in an interview.
Blossom was a sitcom created by Don Reo that aired for five seasons on NBC starting in 1991 and ending in 1995. The series followed the title character living in a male-dominated household led by her single father and two older brothers.
Bialik teased that the reimagination of the show would be much different than the 1990s comedy adding, “We’re hoping to reboot it not as a sitcom, though. We want to bring back these interesting, deep characters—a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict,...

Twenty five years ago this week, the sitcom Blossom debuted on NBC. Star Mayim Bialik was only 15 when the show began airing regularly on Jan. 3, 1991, and over the course of five seasons, viewers watched her character, Blossom Russo, learn a whole lot of major life lessons.
In fact, the show often made a point of prefacing these episodes with an intro voiceover from Bialik herself, who'd announce "Tonight, on a very special Blossom," just to let viewers know that they were in for some heavy stuff.
In honor of the show's silver anniversary, we're listing off the most special of those very special episodes.

If you're feeling glum about the state of the world today, just watch basic cable. There, you'll stumble across a number of current shows set in past decades -- or reruns from a few decades ago -- and you'll be reminded that things weren't any better back then.
This past week saw the Season 1 finale (and perhaps the series finale) of "Halt and Catch Fire," the AMC drama about '80s techies trying to build a then-revolutionary new portable computer. Unlike many of the other period shows built on the "Mad Men" model, this one doesn't make the past look sexy; the clothes and décor are as tacky as they should for a series set in 1983, and the cutting-edge gadgetry all looks clunky and slow to today's eyes. (The computer the characters are trying to build is considered lightweight at 15 pounds.) The season built toward the unveiling in the penultimate episode of the machine,...

The '90s NBC sitcom Blossom may have seemed like a blip on the TV radar, but the show was responsible for launching a few major careers, is remembered for being way ahead of its time, coining a few catchphrases and singlehandedly putting the flower hat on the map.
Debuting July Fourth weekend of 1990, Blossom starred the 15-year-oldMayim Bialik as a precocious teen adjusting to life and coming of age with her mom out of the picture. Her dad Nick (Ted Wass) was a musician sometimes on the road, her oldest brother Anthony (Michael Stoyanov) was a recovering alcoholic and her brother Joey (Joey Lawrence) was the stereotypical dumb jock. Jenna Von Oy played Blossom's fast-talking best friend.

Space Station 76
Directed by Jack Plotnick
Written by Jennifer Elise Cox, Sam Pancake, Jack Plotnick, Kali Rocha, and Michael Stoyanov
Space Station 76 begins with a narration musing on the impermanence and isolation of asteroidal paths. It’s the overarching metaphor in a film that is hilariously set in a nostalgic, 1970s version of the future and populated with hurt, dysfunctional, and yearning characters.
Glen (Patrick Wilson) is the alcoholic, abrasive, and suicidal captain of the Omega 76; Jessica (Liv Tyler) is new aboard and although much more competent than her counterparts, she is struggling with her own maternal inabilities; Ted (Matt Bomer) is an earnest but naive mechanic who lives with Misty (Marisa Coughlan), his philandering wife, and their lonely, precocious daughter Sunshine (Kylie Rogers). Together, this motley cast of characters explores what it means to live in a future built on expectations from the past. What happens when...

After announcing earlier this month that Jon Favreau’s Chef and the Veronica Mars movie will be making their world debuts at SXSW this year, the festival has revealed its full line-up, including further very promising world premieres, alongside appearances from some of the year’s most high-profile films.
The Midnight programme will be announced early next month, along with the Shorts line-up, and the complete Conference slate a little later as well.
Led by Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, Nicholas Stoller’s anticipated R-rated comedy, Neighbors, will be making its world debut at the festival, notably marked out as a ‘work-in-progress’ ahead of its theatrical release in May.
David Gordon Green’s acclaimed Joe will make its Us premiere, having bowed at Venice and then Toronto last year. Early reviews have Nicolas Cage giving one of the finest performances of his career, with Tye Sheridan (Mud) excellent alongside him.

Not sure if there is a Short Term 12 equivalent in this year’s Narrative Feature Comp, but on paper SXSW programmers are serving up a mean (and the usual lean group of 8 out of a whopping 1,324 film entries) for the upcoming competitiuon of eight which includes notable entries (that we’ve been tracking for a good time now) such as Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, John Magary’s The Mend, Leah Meyerhoff’s I Believe in Unicorns and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Wild Canaries. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated docs of the year, on the non-fiction side we find Margaret Brown’s The Great Invisible. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the other sections (notable world preems in We’ll Never Have Paris and Faults (see Mary Elizabeth Winstead above), some Sundance items with Texan connections and other nuggets.

Chicago – The just completed “Just for Laughs Chicago” comedy festival brought in a variety of name acts. Insult comedy, improvisation and stand up was performed by Jeff Ross (“Comedy Central Roast”), Scott Adsit (“30 Rock”) and Chris D’Elia (“Whitney”).
Six days of amazing comedy stretched through all parts of Chicago during the festival. New and old venues served as stages for the events, including the famous iO Theater (Adsit), the Park West (Ross) and the new Laugh Factory (D’Elia). HollywoodChicago got a chance to talk with each of the comedians.

In my opinionation, the early ’90s were a great time to be a girl. On television, tweens had Clarissa as a guide, teens looked to Blossom, and Murphy Brown provided a blueprint for the professional-to-be in all of us. Perhaps more than any of her contemporaries, though, Blossom Russo (Mayim Bialik) represented the complete package. She was a role model who was still relatable. She could tear it up on the dance floor and had an eye for funky fashion. Even amid personal struggles and rebellious patches, she always managed to work out her differences with friends and family. (And...

After four seasons on the air, it was recently announced that Fox had cancelled 'Til Death. The sitcom had been doing poorly in the ratings for some time but was kept alive via a deal that allowed Sony to accrue enough episodes for syndication. The cast of 'Til Death has included Brad Garrett, Joely Fisher, Timm Sharp, Kate Micucci, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Kat Foster, and J. B. Smoove.
On the positive side, before the sitcom signs off on June 20th, sitcom fans will be treated to a Blossom reunion. Members of the cast of the 1990s NBC sitcom will be playing themselves on this Sunday's episode -- Mayim Bialik, Michael Stoyanov, and Jenna Von Oy. Unfortunately, Joey Lawrence and Ted Wass couldn't make it.
