Homer Jones, an electrifying wide receiver for the New York Giants who still holds the NFL record for career yards per reception at 22.3 yards, died Wednesday in Texas from lung cancer. He was 82.
Jones was the first player to “spike” the football after a touchdown. He reportedly did so after NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle threatened fines to players who threw the football into the stands.
Jones played college football and ran track at Texas Southern University and was drafted as the 278th pick in 1963 by the Houston Oilers. He was cut after a knee injury, but was picked up by the New York Giants. He went on to play seven years in the NFL, with the bulk of it with the Giants from 1964-69. Jones retired in 1971 after a season with the Cleveland Browns.
Teaming with New York Giants quarterback Fran Tarkenton, Jones became a fearsome weapon.

When you think of your typical “SNL” host, you probably imagine movie stars, television actors or music personalities. But did you know more than 30 athletes have hosted NBC’s late night sketch comedy series over the past five decades? Indeed, all of the biggest names in sports have graced Studio 8H for a night of laughs and gags, including Bill Russell, John Madden, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan and Dwayne Johnson.
While the vast majority of hosts from the world of sports have been male, three female athletes have also entertained audiences: Chris Evert, Nancy Kerrigan and Ronda Rousey. The most recent addition to the list was Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce, who took his turn as emcee in March 2023. Scroll through our “SNL” gallery above (or click here for direct access) to see all 35 athletes who hosted “Saturday Night Live.”

More than three months after he was defeated by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls on the biggest stage of his career, Charles Barkley picked up a basketball for the first time in September 1993 and stared down his next opponent: a stuntman in a knockoff Barney costume. Despite losing in six games in the 1993 NBA Finals, Charles’ star was as bright as ever — an Olympic gold medalist and Mvp starring in movies, commercials, and video games who had been rumored to have hung out with Madonna. Yet when Chuck hosted...

Get ready for some brouhaha. Actually, the brouhaha has already started.
As I was reading the Friday issue of The New York Times, my eyes fell upon this: “In ‘Lord of the Flies’ Remake, Girls Survive Instead.”
The film will be under Warner Bros.’ auspice and will be written and directed by Scott McGhee and David Siegel, who co-directed The Deep End (2001) and What Maisie Knew (2013). Two men. But that’s not what bothers me – although I’m sure others will certainly be bothered. On a business level, McGhee and Siegel were the ones who brought it to Warner Bros., so they certainly have the right to want to write and direct the film. (I don’t know whether or not the deal includes a clause in which Warner Bros. has the right to “exchange” (i.e. fire) them if the studio isn’t happy with their work, and even if it does,...

[[tmz:video id="0_0tjed91g"]] If Mitch Trubisky isn't the Chicago Bears starting Qb in Week 1, "You've got problems" -- so says Bears legend Mike Ditka. To say Da Coach was impressed with the rookie's preseason debut Thursday night is a gross understatement ... Ditka believes it's Trub Or Consequences! "What I saw out of Trubiksy for a rookie in his first game I thought was outstanding." Trub -- the #2 pick in the draft -- went 18-25 for 166 yards and a...

Randy calls an audible and goes for a little Burt Reynolds.
It’s not too hard to connect the dots between professional football and prison, or between football and fine wine. It’s quite a bit harder to make a play for all three.
There is no shortage of star football players who have done a little time – or more – in the pokey. Conversely, some football folks have ventured into the field of wine. I’ll take football over prison and wine over either of those choices.
The Longest Yard has Burt Reynolds – himself a former college football player – as a prisoner who heads up the inmate football team in a contest against the guards, a game which is more than just a game to those on the field. It’s fantasy football with real consequences. These football heroes have numbers a lot longer than one or two digits; their football cards are mugshots.

This is Mixtape Daily, so you know the deal: We spotlight the essence of street culture. And when it comes to those behind the boards, it gets no truer than producers who know how to dig in the crates and find a dusty sample that will inject life into a new composition.
These four guys reached deep down, far and wide, to the nether regions of their musical minds to create bangers that became the soundtrack of the past 12 months. Without further ado, we close out our year-end awards by saluting the Top Producers of 2010:

In 2010, we fell in love with guys named Alejandro and Gurls from California. We learned how to Dougie and Blow Money Fast, shouted F--- You and Oh My God, wished on Airplanes in the night sky, Loved the Way You Lie and got Fancy. We marveled at the Power one man possessed and pined openly for the Only Girl (In the World). In short, we lived vicariously through music — and 2010 was a heck of a year to do so.
But in a year with so many genuinely great songs, what was the greatest? It's a tough question to answer, but we decided to give it a try. Over the past month, we asked the MTV News staff to come up with their own list of their 25 favorite songs of...

With only one more episode left of the season, this was a very exciting week for Weeds!
Lately, I've found myself yearning for the glory days when Nancy just sold pot to her suburban neighbors. But this week provided everything I love about this show.
Throughout the entire half hour of "Fran Tarkenton, I got that sickening feeling that everything will not be okay.
This is Nancy, for goodness sake. One constant throughout the seasons that have gone by would be her ability to mess up everything in her life and not even acknowledge that she is the problem.
During the episode, Nancy tries to lie to the reporter about her reasons for running away, but this guy is good. He nails it saying that he believes Shane killed Pillar. Does she tell him the truth? Doubtful, but she does eventually sit down and go on record for the cash.

Cowboys 27, Texans 13 Any idea if I can exchange my ticket on the Texans bandwagon for a transfer on the “Cowboys Aren’t Done Yet” bandwagon? Or is that only during off-peak? Cardinals 24, Raiders 23 The highest-paid kicker in NFL history missed a 32-yard field goal as time expired to cost the Raiders the game, finally giving Raiders fans something to be upset about this decade. With every loss, Tom Cable keeps looking more and more like a gangster from a Guy Ritchie movie: Steelers 38, Buccaneers 13 The Steelers moved to 3-0 on a surprisingly solid performance by (4th-string) backup Qb Charlie Batch, though the announcers never explained the white substance on his nose during this sideline celebration: Sunblock? Or were the teams wearing their 80s-throwback sidelines? Titans 29, Giants 10 This game was a total mess, with the Giants turning the ball over approximately 15 times inside the Red Zone. Number of “Appalled Tom Coughlin” Reaction Shots during this broadcast?...

Rick Ross has announced June 29 as the release date for his new LP, Teflon Don. The rap heavyweight released the first official single for the set on Monday (April 12), "Super High." The record is produced by beat legend Clark Kent and features Ross' Def Jam labelmate Ne-Yo.
The drums are smothered in '70s soul funk, and Ne-Yo brings his Grammy-winning vocals to serenade the ladies and make the fellas jealous as he brags about his spoils. "All these cars, all these stars all around me/ ... To the sky, that's where you'll find me."
"We doing it big, it's going down at 11," Ross raps. "I'm doing it big pulling up in the 911/ ... Baby girl, it's now or never/ Got the condo on the beach, so our storms we shall weather/ F--- the marketing,...
