For one full decade of 1977 to 1987, ABC could count on its comedy/drama series “The Love Boat” to bring in millions of audience members on Saturday nights. The show would have multiple story arcs (often three for a one-hour episode) with five to 10 celebrity guest stars each time. Some arcs were playing out for laughs, others for romance and the remainder could take on tough issues. The show airs daily on the Decades network and on Sunday afternoons for Me-tv. You can also stream every episode on Paramount+.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Real Love Boat series premiere.] Love, exciting and new. The Real Love Boat premiered Wednesday, October 5 on CBS, bringing a fresh twist to the reality dating genre as it’s set on a cruise ship. Like the scripted show it’s based on, The Real Love Boat aims to bring singles together to find love. The dating show’s premiere paid tribute to ABC‘s The Love Boat in simple, recognizable ways. For starters, hosts/real-life couple Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn covered The Love Boat theme song for the new reality show. The rest of The Love Boat references are found in the dating program’s format. The new series pays homage to three of The Love Boat‘s staple characters — ship captain Merrill Stubing (Gavin MacLeod), bartender Isaac Washington (Ted Lange), and cruise director Julie McCoy (Lauren Tewes) — in its crew. Real-life Princess Cruises captain Paolo Arrigo...

“The Love Boat” soon will be making another run, promising something for everyone — but this time as a reality dating series.
CBS and its sister Australian broadcaster Network 10 have both ordered local versions of “The Real Love Boat,” set to air in the U.S. and Australia later this year. The show is exactly what it sounds like: A reality dating competition show, but patterned after the hit 1970s hour-long comedy “The Love Boat.”
And just as Princess Cruises served as the backdrop to the scripted series, the cruise line’s ships will also serve as a setting for the new unscripted shows.
“The Love Boat” was produced by Aaron Spelling, whose company was later purchased by Viacom — eventually leading to the “Love Boat” IP being owned by CBS Studios. CBS and Network 10 are now Paramount Global brands.

Any slasher worth its salt should have a little bit of unique flavor; or at the very least, come at the material from a slightly different angle. Such is the case with Ken Wiederhorn’s (far and away) best film, Eyes of a Stranger (1981), a taut thriller and an effective big screen debut for Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Released by Warner Bros. in late March and produced by the Friday the 13th folks, Eyes barely made back its $800,000 budget, and was frowned upon by critics as just another link in a never-ending chain of misogyny and bloodletting. Eyes however, while adhering to many of the tropes of the time, gives a sense of agency to its female leads that wasn’t completely uncommon to the genre yet always refreshing to see.
Our film opens as a photographer comes across a woman, naked and dead, submerged on the shore of a Florida swamp.

David Lynch today unveiled the full cast list for his upcoming Showtime Twin Peaks follow-up — and is it a doozy. Two hundred and seventeen actors are credited, with both newcomers and returning thespians. Previously only Kyle MacLachlan had been confirmed as FBI Agent Dale Cooper.
Will Agent Cooper use a smartphone?
Let’s check out some of the more interesting names on the list, shall we?
Michael Cera: The erstwhile Scott Pilgrim has been keeping busy since his breakout role as George Michael Bluth on Arrested Development, but he usually sticks with comedy (Year One, Superbad). It’ll be interesting to see him tackle something so dark.
Will this hair get frizzier in perpetually damp Twin Peaks?
Trent Reznor: The Oscar-winning composer and Nine Inch Nails wizard has only two credits under his belt (aside from three video shorts): a 2000 Swedish thriller called Recycled and the 1987 Michael J. Fox...

The new "Twin Peaks" isn't slated to debut on Showtime until 2017, but a flurry of speculation about it happened last week with a tweet from Go For Locations indicating that filming had wrapped on the "first two seasons" of the series.
The episode count for the David Lynch-directed series was always in question, but that tweet suggested we'd be getting even more episodes than originally planned. Said tweet has since been deleted, so we'll have to wait to see how that pans out.

“Oprah: Where Are They Now?” comes back this weekend (Sun. June 8 at 9:00 p.m. Et on Own) with the reunion you never knew you wanted to see: the cast of that epic '80s cheesefest "The Love Boat." Ted Lange, Cynthia Lauren Tewes and Jill Whelan reunite and reminisce about life aboard The Pacific Princess, which was probably less fabulous than it looked on our TV screens. Then, in a rare interview at her Beverly Hills home, the one and only Latin music sensation Charo talks about success and the real meaning of her catchphrase “Cuchi-Cuchi.” We can only hope she talks about why she does not seem to have aged since 1982. Next, Dave Coulier, who played Uncle Joey on the popular sitcom “Full House,” talks about his real-life relationships with former co-stars Bob Saget and John Stamos and the truth about those Alanis Morissette rumors. Plus, actor D.B. Sweeney,...

Ted McGinley. Ted McGinley
The name strikes fear in the hearts of TV showrunners, desperate to get their shows to the required amount necessary for syndication (secret: It’s all about syndication). Since Ted made his acting debut in the waning years of Happy Days, he’s been used as an easy scapegoat and punching bag (and line) as a “Show Killer,” someone whose very presence dooms a show to cancellation.
Nothing could be further from the truth, and it’s time to set the record straight. For Ted’s 56th Birthday today … let’s finally clear his name.
Ted is usually blamed for helping these three shows Jump The Shark, so let’s dissect each one, and examine the evidence!

Seasons On Show: Four (1980-84)
Ratings Decline: #15, #18, #28, Not In Top 30

CBS' "The Talk" reunited the cast of "The Love Boat" on Tuesday (Nov. 5), and in addition to dressing like the iconic characters, the hosts asked the stars to reminisce on the surprise success of the series.
Gavin MacLeod, Bernie Kopell, Ted Lange, Fred Grandy, Lauren Tewes, and Jill Whelan were all in attendance to look back and discuss the success of the show.
"I didn't even think we'd get through the pilot. Nobody thought it would go beyond that," Grandy says. "The critics hated it. They said it would sink like the Titanic. They put us on at 10 o'clock on a Saturday night which is normally a graveyard shift. And then we started beating shows like 'Kojak' and 'Carol Burnett.' And all of a sudden, this thing caught on."

"Come aboard... We're expecting you..." For nine seasons, The Love Boat was a welcome escape for TV viewers and a staple of ABC's Saturday night schedule.
The show went off the air in 1986, but members of the cast reunited for a series of TV movies, including 1990's The Love Boat: A Valentine Voyage. In 1998, as part of the short-lived The Love Boat: The Next Wave series, members of the cast reboarded the Pacific Princess for a journey down memory lane.
Now, the cast is set to reunite for the upcoming TV Land Awards. Scheduled to appear are Gavin MacLeod, Fred Grandy, Bernie Kopell, Ted Lange, Ted McGinley, Lauren Tewes, and Jill Whelan. Frequent guest star Charo will also take part. The cast will be presented with the Fan Favorite Award.

Cam and Mitchell are perfect, picturing Shameless, Ryan Kwanten is shamefully clothed, and Green Day is nervous.
I demand an explanation from the British readers for Rowan Atkinson: Why is this man being allowed to make movies? Is he supposed to be funny? And in this day and age of sequels, prequels and reimagining, can the U.K. justify a market for Johnny English 2?
The Rapid City Police Department who caused the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell discharge of Air Force Sergeant Jene Newsome after seeing her wedding certificate through a window, has decided to “tighten” policies about cooperation with military authorities. You think?
If you heard a high-pitched squeal this morning, that was snicks reading that the TV Land Awards will feature an onstage reunion of The Love Boat. Scheduled to appear to receive the Fan Favorite Award are Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), former U.S. Rep.

The '90s were a good time to be a teen -- especially if you were itching for more than just the mainstream. Nestled between the John Hughes '80s and the bubbly Disney '00s, the '90s were a time when teen films thrived in tunes-led rebellion. It wasn't all about spunky mainstream music marketing and bubbly personalities. Scores and strangeness got to go a little wild, and Gregg Araki ran with that idea when he made The Doom Generation.
Dubbed Araki's "heterosexual movie," the film starred then-newcomer Rose McGowan as Amy Blue, a tough-as-nails, filthy-mouthed, self-proclaimed virgin in love with one Jordan White (James Duval). Their rather mundane lives are thrown through the ringer when they help out a strange boy named Xavier (Johnathan Schaech), who leads them through an insane road trip of unintended violence. A trip, mind you, that showcases a slew of names from...
