‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ creator Tim Burton and ‘Gone Girl’ writer Gillian Flynn are tackling a remake of ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’ for Warner Brothers.
Burton is directing the upcoming film from a script by Flynn. The science-fiction horror story follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband, reports Variety.
It’s unclear how closely this new take will follow the original 1958 movie, starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers.
The first film reportedly carried a budget of just $88,000, so it’s reasonable to assume the remake will have a slightly higher price tag.
The project reteams Burton with Warner Bros., where he is currently working on the sequel to his 1988 movie ‘Beetlejuice’.

Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman Remake Coming From Tim Burton And ... Gone Girl Author Gillian Flynn?
If you've been missing the acidic wit of "Gone Girl" and "Sharp Objects" author Gillian Flynn lately, don't worry: she's reportedly back in the screenwriting game, this time with a script that's set to become a Tim Burton movie, per Variety.
According to the outlet, Burton is set to direct a new version of "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" penned by Flynn, with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper producing and Kai Dolbashian on board as an EP. Mittman and Harper worked with Burton on Netflix's smash hit "Wednesday," and hopefully the unlikely director-screenwriter duo will bring new life to the story (which comes from the 1958 B-movie of the same name).
Apparently, it's unclear as of yet how much Burton and Flynn's "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" will follow its predecessor, but it's worth noting that the Nathan Hertz-directed original featured a literal 50-foot woman who was...

The classic B-movie title Attack of the 50 Foot Woman is getting a remake from Tim Burton and Gillian Flynn. Burton is attached to direct the movie from a script by the Gone Girl scribe.
Warner Bros. is behind the project, which will be a re-imagining of the 1950s genre film. The succinct logline for that earlier film reads: “Turned into a giantess by an alien, a woman (Allison Hayes) finds her husband (William Hudson) in a bar with a floozy (Yvette Vickers).” Nathan Juran directed the pic, which was released by Warners.
Burton is also set to produce the project with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian will executive produce.
Burton was last in theaters with Dumbo, which failed to preform at the box office, but he most recently found success with the Netflix series Wednesday and recently wrapped on a Beetlejuice sequel for Waenrs. He is repped by WME.

Only once in a generation do we behold a classic such as this! The ’embiggened’ adventures of Nancy Archer lack technical sophistication, but good direction and a very direct story — female revenge writ large — grab us every time. Let the absurdities pile up, because Allison Hayes cuts a mean fifty-foot figure in that white two-piece, and saucy Yvette Vickers really warms up the clientele down at Tony’s place. It’s a terrific piece of late ’50s exploitation anti-art. The fantastic Reynold Brown poster is a key expression of the monsterrific worldview.

Movies from the “golden age” of black and white films (approximately the 1930’s through the 1950’s) almost invariably contain well-written dialogue and strikingly subtle humor, making them a favorite among many fans of cinema. The horror movies of this more subtle period in film history are therefore of a cerebral nature, primarily relying on the viewer’s imagination to generate the true sense of horror that modern movies generate through more visual means. It is these oft-ignored horror movies that will be the focus of a series of articles detailing the reasons why true fans of horror movies should rediscover these films.
With this 8th installment in the Forgotten B&W Horror series, we begin looking at a few movies that blur the line between horror and science fiction – a blurring that occurred with many sci-fi movies of the 1950′s.

Destroy the Brain is proud to have Max Allan Collins write up a guest post to explain the character of Mike Hammer and the screen adaptations of this character. We want to thank Tom Green from Titan Books for giving us this great opportunity.
The publication of Lady, Go Die! has elicited Hollywood inquiries as to the possibility of a new Mike Hammer movie. Accompanying this interest comes the usual question, “Who do you think should play Mike Hammer?” Since Mickey Spillane always said that Mike Hammer is a state of mind, my suggestions range from Josh Brolin to Denzel Washington, from Ben Affleck to Jason Statham. I am always open to imaginative casting. Tom Hanks made a great Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition, after all.

The title “Scream Queen” became popular in the late 70′s & is still popular today. But in actuality they’ve been around since the fifties, they just weren’t given the title of “Scream Queen”. Beverly Garland (The Alligator People), Mara Corday (Tarantula) & Yvette Vickers (Attack Of The Killer Leeches) are perfect examples of actresses who became very familiar to moviegoers in the fifties & sixties who frequented horror/sci-fi films. The tradition continued through the sixties (Barbara Steele) & seventies (Caroline Munro, Jamie Lee Curtis). But the eighties was the decade that the title “Scream Queen” became very well known & … More...

Star of quirky horror films such as Attack of the Giant Leeches
Yvette Vickers, who has died aged 82, found a niche in the world of psychotronic movies, the film genre made up of low-budget horror and quirky exploitation films, which could be described as "bad enough to be good". These movies attract obsessive devotion from fans who revel in films with ludicrous titles such as Attack of the 50ft Woman (1958) and Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959), both of which starred Vickers as a victim of the titu- lar monsters.
In the former film, Vickers is carrying on with the hubby of the wealthy woman who is turned into a giantess. In the latter, it is Vickers's husband who wreaks revenge on his wife and her boyfriend, by forcing them at gunpoint into the swamp inhabited by the massive bloodthirsty leeches. Just a couple of weeks after the body of B-movie actress and Playboy pinup Yvette Vickers was found mummified in her home, the L.A. coroner has released her cause of death: heart failure. Although the scene where she passed may have looked suspicious, Vickers died from natural causes due to heart disease and hardening of the arteries (arterial sclerotic cardiovascular disease), a Los Angeles County coroner's department investigator told the Los Angeles Times. While the coroner's department didn't determine when she passed away, police said it appeared her dead body had been in the home for nearly a year. Yvette Vickers, the 1950s actress and pinup whose decomposed body was discovered in her home by a neighbor last month, died of heart disease, an autopsy found. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says he didn't know when Vickers died, but her neighbors say it could have been anywhere from six months to a year ago. Vickers, 82, who starred in such B-movies as Attack of the Giant Leeches, had a number of health issues in recent years. She was overweight and had a drinking problem, as well as what appeared to severe paranoia, friends and neighbors said. - Dahvi Shira...

Authorities in Los Angeles have determined tragic model and actress Yvette Vickers died from heart disease.
Police found the mummified remains of the one-time Playboy Playmate in her Los Angeles home last month, after a curious neighbour stumbled upon her decomposed body.
Ed Winter, the county coroner's assistant, officially identified the body and revealed the cause of death on Friday. The time of death remains unknown.
Forensics experts have suggested Vickers, who appeared in classic B-movies Attack of the 50-Foot Woman and Attack of the Giant Leeches, may have died alone a year before her remains were found.
The actress was 82 years old.

The death of any famous actor is always a sad occasion for many film fans whether it’s a big mainstream star or a popular cult name. But nothing could be worse than the tragic and mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Yvette Vickers.
Vickers found her cult spurs in the fifties as the star of several popular low budget science fiction films. Although more talented than most of the blonde bombshells of that era, she could not escape B-movie typecasting, and despite coming extremely close, failed to attain the major film stardom she was quite capable of achieving. Branching out into other areas of entertainment did not prevent her minor film status from falling into obscurity, and as such, her sad and lonely death illustrates only too well the creepy downside of Hollywood.

Hollywood is notoriously fickle in its favours, but the macabre demise of a former B-movie queen was an especially cruel twist
The concerned neighbour suspected something amiss. She came to check on the old lady and saw the mailbox covered with cobwebs. The only letters in it were yellowing, untouched bills. Forcing open the barricaded front gate and peering through a broken window, she saw lights illuminating a formerly beautiful interior now in total disrepair, filthy clothes, junk mail and boxes strewn everywhere.
Once inside, the only sound she heard was the low hum of a space heater still running. Evidently, the utility company never turned off the power. In the bedroom, she noticed a dead cordless phone on the floor … before she made the grisly discovery of a mummified, unrecognizable corpse. She knew instinctively it was the old lady.
The police said the woman, in her eighties, may have been dead for months.

Playboy magazine was a 6-year-old scandalous sensation when Hugh Hefner chose Yvette Vickers to appear as Miss July 1959, with a centerfold photo of her lying on a sofa flashing her bare behind. "Our lawyer thought that photo was going to get us into trouble," recalls Hefner with a laugh. "He literally wanted to stop the presses and change the Playmate. I said, 'Forget it.' " More than 50 years later, Hefner received another message about Vickers, this time a Tweet. The former Playmate and one-time B-movie queen had been found dead in a mummified state in her home. You may not recognize the name Yvette Vickers, but she was not only a 1959 Playboy Playmate, she was also one of the most popular B-movie actresses of her generation. A mummified body, presumed to be that of Vickers, was found by a neighbor inside the Vickers residence this week, and police say that she could have been dead for as long as a year.
The neighbor who found the body was apparently not suspicious that she hadn’t seen Vickers in many months, but what tipped her off were some cobwebs and yellowing mail in the mailbox. The neighbor entered through a broken window and found what she described as “unrecognizable remains” in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Police are expected to make a positive identification soon.

Though I can't remember why I was watching Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958) a few months back and thinking of maybe writing something up on it. (I thought I'd look at the 1990s Daryl Hannah remake too.) Needless to say that never came to fruition but this morning I read some horrific news. Yvette Vickers, the star of that infamous Bad Movie People Love about an angry adulteress who rampages once she's giantized, was found dead this week in her home in Benedict Canyon. She was 82ish.
The worst part of the story is this gruesome detail: her body was mummified indicating she'd been dead for a long time, possibly a year. That nobody checked in for that length of time -- neither friend nor neighbor (she had no surviving family members) -- is scarier than any horror movie.
Her first film appearance was in the showbiz classic, Sunset Boulevard.

Yvette Vickers, star of cult films Attack of the 50-Foot Woman (1958) and Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959), has passed away at the age of 74. The discovery of her body last week adds a grisly, haunting footnote to the life and career of this actress and model. Vickers was born August 26, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri. Daughter of professional jazz musicians, Vickers was a singer in addition to her modeling and acting, which she was doing professionally by her mid teens. Her first film appearance (uncredited) was in Sunset Boulevard (1950), directed by Billy Wilder. Vickers's first credited film appearance was in Short Cut to Hell (1957), directed by James Cagney. This a strange and sad story, perhaps the strangest and saddest you.ll read this week. Yvette Vickers the star of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and many other notable, ridiculous, and fun B-movies from the 50s was found dead last week in her home. She was 82 and the circumstances of her death sound like something out of one of the B-movies she was once famous for. Vickers was a blonde bombshell and a Playboy Playmate before making a career in the movies. She appeared in more than 40 different films and television programs, the last one in 1990. She worked most in the 50s doing edgy, tawdry cult films like 50 Foot Woman or Attack of the Giant Leeches, which in their own way shaped the modern film era but were mostly a lot of completely trashy fun. Even if you.ve never seen any of her films, you.ve almost...

Vickers had kept to herself so neighbors did not notice her absence until a year after she apparently died of natural causes. A neighbor broke into her home after noticing signs of neglect on the property and discovered her body, which was so badly decomposed she was unrecognizable. Vickers gained her primary fame from the 1958 B science fiction classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Her image from the movie poster as the titular character became an iconic part of American pop culture. Stardom didn't follow, however, although Vickers did continue to work in small parts in feature films and on TV. Click here for more...

In what is absolutely the strangest, and saddest, story I've reported lately, the mummified body of actress, singer and pinup model Yvette Vickers has been found in her Benedict Canyon home. It is expected she died of natural causes.
Apparently, Vickers, who appeared in 1950s cult faves such as Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and Attack of the Giant Leeches, died a year ago at age 82, but no one realized it until a concerned neighbor, Susan Savage, noticed her mail piling up last week. Savage then forced open a barricaded front gate, scaled a hillside, climbed through a broken window and pushed past piles of "clothes, junk mail and letters" to reach her, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Well this is beyond creepy. The Los Angeles Times reports that Yvette Vickers, star of the schlock sci-fi (schli-fi?) classic "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" (1958) was found dead in her Los Angeles home last Wednesday. But not just any kind of dead: mummified dead.
Vickers, who was 82, became a recluse after her Hollywood career, which ended in the early 1990s. According to a friend quoted in the Times, she was convinced she was being stalked, and became increasingly paranoid. With no immediate survivors -- she was married and divorced twice -- Vickers had no one looking in on her. So when neighbors finally became suspicious of the mail piling up outside her house, they were the ones who discovered her body, which was "so decomposed that it was unrecognizable," according to People. Police say that the condition of Vickers' body indicates she was dead for nearly a year when she was found.

"It's not uncommon for movies to drop out of circulation and simply disappear, as fans of Deep End will attest," begins Ryan Gilbey in the Guardian. "Barely seen since its release in 1971, the film concerns Mike (played by John Moulder-Brown), a floppy-fringed 15-year-old who becomes dangerously infatuated with Susan (Jane Asher), his co-worker at the public baths. What's unusual about this prolonged absence is that it should have befallen a film so passionately admired. The influential critic Andrew Sarris thought it measured up to the best of Godard, Truffaut and Polanski. The New Yorker's Penelope Gilliatt called it 'a work of peculiar, cock-a-hoop gifts.' If something as venerated as Deep End can sink, what hope for the rest of cinema?"

Apparently she’d been dead in her apartment for many months and they just discovered her mummified remains. The sultry B-movie starlet was known for her sexy sneer and was often cast as bad girls in 50′s schlock such as Reform School Girl (1957) and Attack Of The Giant Leeches (1958). The vivacious blonde was Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in July 1959. I met her at a Fangoria convention years back and she was a great, fun broad. Listen to her commentary on the Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman DVD and you’ll hear a woman with a lot of stories to tell.

Yvette Vickers, former Playboy Playmate and star of classic B-movies such as Attack of the Giant Leeches and Attack of the 50-Foot Woman was found in a "mummified state" in her California home last week, and according to authorities may have passed away up to a year ago. Vickers was found by Susan Savage, a neighbor who noticed cobwebs and yellowing mail, and told the La Times she "just had a bad feeling." Unfortunately upon entering Vickers' home, she was proven right: The inside of the home was in disrepair and it was hard to move through the rooms because boxes containing what appeared to be clothes, junk mail and letters formed barriers, Savage said. Eventually, she made her way upstairs and found a room with a small space heater still on. She was looking at a cordless phone that appeared to have been knocked [...]...
