How do you say goodbye to one of the best shows on the air?
Fans of Netflix's After Life will be forced to say goodbye on January 14 when the final season launches.
The streamer has unveiled our biggest look yet at the final episodes, and it looks like Tony (Ricky Gervais) has a new outlook on life.
After spending the time following his wife's death thinking that not caring was a superpower, the trailer teases him making good decisions.
We get to see Tony on a very different mission, finding very specific places to scatter his late father's ashes.
One of those places is a bar, and well, that goes about as well as you can expect when he's caught.
Set in the small fictitious town of Tambury, the show follows Tony, a writer for the local newspaper whose life is upended after his wife dies from cancer.

U.K. production company Shakespeare Sisters has acquired the film rights to the popular YA novel “The Upside of Unrequited,” written by best-selling scribe Becky Albertalli. The author’s debut novel, “Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda,” was adapted as the gay teen romantic comedy movie “Love, Simon,” which – distributed by 20th Century Fox – grossed $66 million worldwide, and inspired the Hulu spin-off series “Love, Victor.”
The movie adaptation of “The Upside of Unrequited” will be written and directed by Hillary Shakespeare and Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare, who are best known for their recent coming-of-age film “Soundtrack to Sixteen.” Albertalli also joins as executive producer on the feel-good summer romance.
The story centers on awkward 17-year-old Molly, who has had 26 crushes and exactly zero kisses. She’s sure love confessions can only go one way for weight-challenged girls: utter humiliation. Now that her twin Cassie is swept up in her first romance, Molly has never felt more alone.

The 2020 Emmy ballots have been released by the Television Academy, so we now know which shows, actors, etc. are in contention for this year’s golden statues. Netflix’s comedy series “After Life” accounts for 10 entries on the performer ballot, including creator/writer/director/producer Ricky Gervais, supporting player Ashley Jensen and lead actress Kerry Godliman. Gervais, a two-time Emmy winner for producing “The Office” and starring on “Extras,” plays Tony, a journalist who essentially becomes a grief addict after his wife dies of breast cancer.
“It’s the most overtly grown-up and vulnerable I’ve been as a performer,” Gervais told Gold Derby after the critically acclaimed second season began streaming on Netflix. He added about his character, “He’s sort of addicted to grief, because hope has let him down too much. There’s a staple in comedy, particularly sitcoms, and that is an ordinary person trying to...

“Ray & Liz” — the haunted and pungent debut feature by photographer Richard Billingham, who’s been dabbling in the form since the late ’90s — feels like watching someone painstakingly build a rusty time machine that only brings them back to their own rotten past. And to what end?
Billingham’s work has always been lauded for its lack of overt beauty; his most acclaimed pictures find his layabout parents cooped up inside the bleakest council flat in all of Thatcher-era Birmingham, the images striking for their deprivation and self-sufficiency. Rather than mine his home life for manufactured poetry, Billingham shot his family with an anthropological flare, as though he’d smuggled a camera into an animal enclosure that the bourgeois art world had only seen from the outside. (Billingham’s 1998 short “Fishtank” has nothing and everything to do with the similarly named Andrea Arnold film that would follow a few years later.

Netflix's cynical-but-sentimental dramedy After Life is getting a second season, so hopefully you're prepared for a whole lot more Ricky Gervais on your TV screens.
"I have never had a reaction like this before," Gervais said in a statement about the news. "It's been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I'll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really."
The six-part series debuted on the streaming platform in early March, following Tony (Gervais), a nice man whose perfect life is shattered when his wife, Lisa (Kerry Godliman), dies. Struggling with grief, Tony decides that instead of doing something drastic like taking his own life, he's going to radically change the way he goes about his days in his British village. Essentially, he decides to be a remorseless d*ck. Fortunately for Tony, his friends and family...

Netflix knows a hit when it has one.
The streamer has handed out a second season order to Ricky Gervais' After Life.
The series focuses on Tony Johnson (Gervais), a recent widower who struggles with his very existence following the death of his wife.
He decides that sticking around would be the best course of action after contemplating suicide. The reason for that is to say exactly what he's thinking and be as rude to whoever he wants for the rest of his life.
Also, he has to look after the dog he shared with his late wife.

Ricky Gervais’ dark comedy After Life is coming back to Netflix for a second season.
The Svod platform has ordered another six-part run of the show, which was created, written and directed by The Office creator, who also starred in the lead role.
This comes after the British comedy, which is produced by Gervais’ Derek Productions, launched on Netflix in March. Last month, the Derek star revealed that he’d never had a reaction to a show that he created before and said that he had a “spring in his step as he skips towards writing season two”.

Turner Prize-nominated artist Richard Billingham turns his hand to filmmaking with an overwhelmingly personal, intricately observed depiction of his troubled upbringing and neglectful parents. This remarkably assured debut feature was born out of Billingham’s single-screen video artwork Ray and his acclaimed 1996 photography book Ray’s a Laugh, which captured his poverty-stricken domestic life with uncompromising honesty. Shot beautifully on 16mm, Ray & Liz proves just as candid and heralds Billingham as a unique cinematic voice.
The narrative unfurls through several vignettes and snapshots of Billingham’s childhood. We begin on an act that frames the other two set pieces – Ray (Patrick Romer) is a bedridden, old man whiling away the reminder of his life by staring out the window of his council flat and getting drunk by 9am on home-brewed beer. We then flashback to the early 80s where a younger Ray (Justin Salinger) and chain smoking Liz (Ella Smith...

If you’ve ever wondered what a meaner, sadder David Brent would look like, Ricky Gervais has got you covered. Despite recent stand-up specials for Netflix garnering widespread criticism of transphobic jokes involving Caitlyn Jenner, the streaming site is putting out a new series from the controversial comedian and creator of the original U.K. version of “The Office.” This first official trailer offers a glimpse of the new project, and leave to it to Gervais to make a compelling and funny comedy about a depressed widower reeling after the death of his wife.
The official synopsis reads: “From the mind of Ricky Gervais, ‘After Life’ is a the story of Tony, who had an all-too-perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. He decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it...

Ray & LizDead Horse Nebula, the first feature of Turkish director Tarik Aktaş, is the kind of film of extremely modest means one finds at a film festival—but it is also proof that such films are precisely why one seeks such films. It opens with a mystery and a dilemma: a dead horse has been found in a field by Hay, a young boy, who calls his elders, who call the owner, who calls the police—all to deal with this bloated carcass. This turns out to be a prologue of a tale that just as evenly balances the unknown and the practical. In the next scene we find a young man (Baris Bilgi) whom we eventually gather is Hay grown up, for Aktaşs’s film moves from scene to scene with gently elusive ellipses. The narrative picks and chooses anecdotes that are once evocative but hardly definitive: the drowning...

If there is an image to best introduce audiences to the grimy cinematic world of Ray & Liz–the remarkable debut feature of Turner prize-nominated visual artist Richard Billingham–it might be, fittingly, the very first one to hit the screen: that of a cracked, burnt-out light bulb filmed dangling beneath a nicotine-stained ceiling. Billingham has spent much of his career as an artist documenting and, in his short films, dramatizing the lives of his father Raymond and mother Elizabeth (Deirdre Kelly and–best of all–Ella Smith) and Ray & Liz could be viewed as a culmination of that work. It’s an immersive poetic-realist dive into the artist’s fractured memories of his parents during the time he spent growing up in Birmingham in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
One could say that the main strength of Ray & Liz is the vividness of those memories. Billingham’s screenplay cuts between three time periods,...

One of our most-anticipated films in the Locarno Film Festival lineup is Ray & Liz, the directorial debut from acclaimed U.K. photographer and artist Richard Billingham. Shot by Under the Skin cinematographer Daniel Landin, the film is divided into three chapters as Billingham recalls his memories of growing up, and specifically his parents’ relationship. World premiering today, the first trailer, clip, and poster have now arrived which shows off the film’s distinct style and promising drama.
“Ray & Liz is a concentration of my own lived experience of growing up in a tower block on a council flat during Thatcher-era Britain. By sticking true to real life, lived experience and observation I want to recreate a world that can only have come about from my being a witness to it,” Billingham said. “Throughout the film Ray and Liz’s relationship is tested by poverty, addiction and being sold short...

It’s always a pleasure to be invited onto a film set, and even more so when you step into one where everybody seems to get on so well, which was the case on Mark Murphy’s The Revenger: An Unromantic Comedy.
And it’s a atmosphere which has infused the finished product too, as HeyUGuys were fortunate enough to be the very first UK outlet to watch the movie since its completion, and needless to say we’re big fans, as this congenial, very funny piece of cinema is all but set to be one of the stand-out British rom-coms of 2018.
Billed as ‘a fairy tale romance takes an unexpected turn when Mark discovers his beautiful bride-to-be, Connie, has actually been plotting against him’ – during our visit we saw a very early scene being shot, and around us were extras donning their smart, black attire – for...

Come inside to see their picks and add your own!
When news about Legendary buying up Dune rights broke earlier this week, reactions around the Cinelinx crew were...subdued. "There's a better life waiting for us." Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for the sci-fi psychological thriller called Identicals, from director Simon Pummell, and it looks pretty damn cool. At least, it has some amazingly cool visuals that I really dig. Is it actually a good film? Well, I don't really know, I'm not so sure. Starring Lachlan Nieboer, Nora-Jane Noone, Nick Blood, Tony Way, and Jacinta Mulcahy. The film, originally called Brand New-u, is about a futuristic company called Brand New-u that allows people to create a brand new life using other people known as "Identicals" as some kind of surrogate. Obviously, not everything is going to go as planned. Watch the new trailer below and tell us what you think. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Simon Pummell's Identicals, in high def from Apple: The organization Brand New-u identifies networks of Identicals—people who walk like you,...

A hold-up turned hostage situation in an all-night store is played for laughs
Director Keri Collins won a Bafta Cymru breakthrough award for this Clerks-y comedy about a petrol station convenience store that becomes the scene of a bungled robbery. Simon Fantauzzo’s script propels two haplessly indebted mates – driving force Ray Panthaki and Four Lions graduate Adeel Akhtar – into the all-night store where Vicky McClure’s seen-it-all shop assistant proves more than a match for her would-be captors (“Er, when does the Stockholm syndrome kick in?”). As the night wears on, a succession of clueless customers, including Verne Troyer, Tom Bell and Tony Way, all fail to grasp the gravity of the situation. Panthaki and Akhtar have droll double-act chemistry, McClure is indomitably entertaining (as ever) and the low-budget vibe produces a few good giggles.

Remember Kinvig, Clone, Not With A Bang? These are the UK sci-fi sitcoms you’re unlikely to see on comedy best-of lists…
With E4 sci-fi comedy commissions, Tripped and Aliens, and in-development Channel 4 projects, Space Ark and Graham Linehan/Adam Buxton collaboration The Cloud, in the works, a new crop of sci-fi sitcom could be making its way to UK TV.
Making funny sci-fi on a small-screen budget is tough enough without the additional pressure of having to attract viewers more traditionally down-to-earth in their sitcom tastes. Sci-fi sets and effects can be seen as prohibitively expensive by comedy commissioners (which is perhaps why the best UK sci-fi sitcoms of recent years has been on BBC Radio), and the genre’s niche status doesn’t scream mainstream hit. Over the years, one or two stand-outs have managed to straddle the sci-fi and comedy TV worlds, but plenty more have stumbled in the attempt.

He invented world music and made the first Plasticine pop video ever - now, Brian Pern is taking to the London stage to celebrate his illustrious 40-year career.
That's right, Simon Day's musical comedy creation is heading to the Lyric Theatre on Monday, October 19 for one-off event An Evening with Brian Pern.

The year is 2025, and once again the human race finds itself in yet another clichéd fight for survival. However, on this occasion it is the Alien's cognitive ability that threatens us most, rather than their over-powered weaponry or unforgiving size.
Combat evolved, the humans efforts are seemingly futile, with victories fewer and far between. However, highly strung propaganda and vivacious speeches from leading political figures ensure a constant recruitment drive, and none are more inspiring than Major General Cage (Tom Cruise) - a charismatic personality whose emphatic belief in the ultimate victory is somewhat infectious. It's as if Cruise is playing Cruise, because that same charismatic personality is what we've come to love and respect in regards to the veteran actor.
However, when ‘Cage’ is told he will be heading the front-line into direct combat in Paris, France, the mood changes. Until then his weapon had been words and his combat inspirational…...
