Exclusive: Blackwater Pictures, the British indie production company behind the buzzy biopic about the life of veteran Snooker player Jimmy White, has set up what they describe as a “multi-million-pound” fund to support commercially-minded independent British films.
Helmed by Kevin Harvey and Antoine Dixon-Bellot, Blackwater Pictures will commit to supporting five projects as part of a slate focused on emerging directors. The fund will prioritize “commercial independent British films,” organizers said today.
The fund is being managed in collaboration with BAFTA-nominated producer Tiernan Hanby (The Karman Line, Summit Fever, Heavyweight) of Pin Sharp Pictures and Simon Marriott of development & production company Shout Loud Creative. Money for the fund was raised through private equity and personal funds.
The slate currently includes Antecedent, the directorial feature debut of Dan Bronzite. He is best known for his supernatural horror Long Time Dead produced for Working Title Films/Universal...

Exclusive: Actor Steven Waddington (The Imitation Game) has penned a screenplay that he will direct based on the life of veteran Snooker player Jimmy White, with Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk) and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) signed on to star.
Barnard — best known for his breakout in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk but also has credits such as The Goldfinch and the BBC’s popular 2016 War & Peace adaptation — will play White in the pic. Producers told us the film will condense the life and career of the colorful six-time Snooker World Championship finalist into “one crazy night” during which he “is forced to confront his darker side.”
Produced by Black Water Pictures and Lipsync Productions, the feature shoots in London this April. Winstone and his long-term manager, Michael Wiggs, are also on board as co-producers. The film will mark Waddington’s feature directorial debut.

Never underestimate the power of music to bring people together, even when the parties in question are deeply conservative Southern Christians and the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. In response to a rise in fresh anti-lgbt bigotry, the out-and-proud California choir planned a series of concerts across five of the states with the harshest laws against homosexuals. Neither the tour nor the AirBnB-backed, “love thy neighbor”-themed “Gay Chorus Deep South” doc that follows them can fully reverse the discrimination and divisiveness being stirred up in politics today, but both are powerful tools in bridging the prejudice gap.
Rather than simply preaching to you-know-whom, director David Charles Rodrigues — an equal-rights advocate who draws from his own “other” status as a (straight-identifying) Brazilian-American — succeeds in humanizing the individuals on both sides. If anything, the big surprise of the film is how its progressive-minded main characters, the 300 or so San Francisco...

After 13 series, there have now been more than enough I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winners to fill up their own all-star series.
They all had to endure creepy crawlies, tough Bushtucker Trials and mockery by Ant & Dec, but they all won the hearts of the nation for a couple of weeks.
Some of them may have fallen from grace since, while some have soared up the UK fame ranks. But who were the best champions from their respective series? Here's our just-for-fun, don't-take-it-too-seriously Top 13.
13. Carol Thatcher - Series 5 (2005)
Potentially the most surprising winner of the lot, no-one could have guessed that Margaret Thatcher's daughter would have been voted the nation's favourite.
Viewers were won over by how involved she was in the tasks, her no-nonsense attitude, and the fact that she was only up against Sid Owen and Cannon & Ball.
12. Matt Willis - Series 6 (2006)

Bringing together multiple components of genre filmmaking, the British feature Jack Falls found a recipe for success by winning best action film at the 2011 London Independent Film Festival.
It's the final part of a trilogy, each based on a graphic novel written by director Paul Tanter and illustrated by Oscar Alvarado.
More details, plus reaction from the filmmakers and a trailer for Jack Falls, are included below.
Tanter, who attended the festival, said: "I'm thrilled to accept this award from the Liff. The competition within independent film has never been better, and we are honoured to have not only been included amongst those selected, but to have won the award too."
All three films are shot in a Sin City style - using splashes of colour against high-contrast black and white - with comic book undertones that reflect the trilogy's origins.
