The first trailer for Netflix’s animated reboot of the iconic ’70s sitcom Good Times was released last week, and the reaction has been… let’s say, mixed.
The original Norman Lear sitcom ran for six seasons from 1974 to 1979 and earned praise for its portrayal of a working-class Black family. The animated reboot follows a new generation of the Evans family as they keep their heads above water in a Chicago housing project, but the tone of the trailer, complete with a drug-dealing baby, didn’t exactly rub fans the right way.
While speaking with THR, original Good Times stars John Amos (James Evans) and BernNadette Stanis (Thelma) shared their thoughts on the trailer. Both actors made it clear that they aren’t ready to pass judgment until they’re able to see full episodes. “I really can’t form an opinion, as I’ve not seen any of the episodes yet,...

Stars of the original Good Times are weighing in after the trailer for Netflix’s forthcoming animated reboot led some fans to question whether the new project will indeed be “dynomite.”
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year after premiering in February 1974, Good Times focused on the Chicago-based Evans family, with the Norman Lear-produced series running for six seasons and earning praise for its realistic portrayal of a working-class Black family. After the first promo debuted last week for Netflix’s animated exploration of the Evans family’s current generation, plenty of social media users expressed surprise that the new series — which appears to double down on stereotypes with such elements as a drug-dealing infant — didn’t highlight the positive themes from the initial show.

It is no secret that the mobile phone has become like another appendage in our modern society. In a post-pandemic world, this matter has only become exceedingly evident. Seemingly inspired by this, “Everyphone Everywhere,” directed by Amos Why comedically yet intimately explores our dependency on the handy device.
Everyphone Everywhere is screening at Osaka Asian Film Festival
The narrative splits its focus between a few characters. Chit Chung, a graphic designer, forgets his phone while on a trip to meet an old friend. Meanwhile, Raymond Ho faces family troubles amid his phone's recent hacking. Lastly, a woman named Ana waits in a private kitchen, witnessing her husband cheat on her through a security app.

Ostensibly, a film that centers around phones may not sound exciting, but the imagery used to convey such interactions makes for an engaging display.

Meri Brown’s budding romance is officially over. The Sister Wives star revealed on Instagram that she and her beau, Amos, decided to go their separate ways after several discussions. In her big reveal, the small business owner placed some of the blame squarely on fans and followers who dug into Amos’ private life.

Meri Brown spent decades in a loveless marriage to Kody Brown. In January 2024, the Sister Wives star took to Instagram to share some happy news. She announced that she had been seeing a good-looking man and was ready to share him with the world.

“Shtisel” star Ayelet Zurer is set to lead a new Israeli drama titled “The Best Worst Thing.”
In the new show Zurer plays Dr Amalia Levi, a breast cancer specialist who finds a suspicious lump in her chest. As she begins her own breast cancer journey, this time as a patient, she is unexpectedly joined by Micha Hadad (Amos Tamam), a male politician who has also just been diagnosed.
“As they embark on a shared treatment journey together, fuelled by hope and fear, they discover they have more in common than a disease,” reads the logline. “Under the shadow of a ticking clock, Amalia and Micha discover that the worst thing that could possibly happen to them is also the best thing that has ever happened to them.”
The eight-part series, which will premiere on Feb. 19 in Israel on local network Keshet 12, was created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon.

“Good Times,” which celebrates its 50th anniversary on Feb. 8, suffered from an identity crisis during its six-season run on CBS. So much so, the lead actors — Esther Rolle and John Amos — would leave the popular second spinoff of ‘All in the Family”(Rolle would eventually return) because the sitcom changed focus.
Norman Lear ruled the airwaves in the 1970s. He blew up the conception of a family sitcom in 1971 with the CBS sitcom “All in the Family” which focused on a working class family from Queen lead by the bigoted patriarch Archie Bunker (Carroll O’Connor). During the first season, Bea Arthur guest starred as Maude, Edith Bunker’s (Jean Stapleton) favorite cousin who was the antithesis of Archie-outspoken, much married, ultra-liberal.
And after a second appearance on “All in the Family,” Arthur got her own series “Maude” in the fall of 1972. The breakout performer on that series was Esther...

David Woolley Claims He Never Wanted to Be on Camera, Despite Upcoming Involvement in ‘Sister Wives’
TLC has yet to announce whether Sister Wives will return for a 19th season, but it isn’t a big secret. Christine Brown revealed that another season has already been filmed during an interview weeks ago, and now she and her husband, David Woolley, are talking even more. While David Woolley will be an added cast member in the upcoming season of Sister Wives, according to the duo, it wasn’t exactly by choice. The contractor from Utah insists he had no desire to be on camera initially.
David Woolley didn’t want to be on camera initially
Sister Wives fans clamoring to learn more about David Woolley will get the chance in an upcoming season. That doesn’t mean David was immediately on board with his new role as a reality TV star. David and Christine recently sat down with People to discuss their romance.

Hailing from the country that gave us such grim social critics as Michael Haneke and Ulrich Seidl, Vantablack Austrian satire “Veni Vidi Vici” opens with a senseless homicide. It’s a startling scene, no less upsetting than the Scorpio killing that kick-starts “Dirty Harry” — except that in this case, the incident is calibrated as the darkest sort of comedy. Rather than picking off an unsuspecting rooftop swimmer, the serial killer does his hunting out in the open, without shame or any pretense of covering his tracks.
The movie makes no mystery of the sniper’s identity, revealing it right from the jump, the way a “Columbo” episode might. And yet the authorities show zero interest in arresting the guilty party, even going so far as to toss an eyewitness out of the police station (that man winds up offing himself in exasperation). That’s because the person responsible, Amon Maynard (Laurence Rupp), is a millionaire,...

There have been funny male stripper movies (The Full Monty), auteur-directed male stripper movies (Magic Mike), Black male stripper movies (three Chocolate City films). Now comes Back on the Strip, yet another attempt to wrest humor and drama from the spectacle of scantily clad men gyrating to audiences of wildly appreciative women. The independent film receiving a wide release definitely leans toward the funnier end of the spectrum, with its overqualified cast including many formidable comedic talents. But despite some amusing moments, it never really takes off, burdened by a tiresome romantic subplot that periodically stops the movie dead in its tracks.
The story revolves around Merlin (Spence Moore II), whose name stems from his lifelong desire to pursue a career as a magician. His supportive single mother Verna (Tiffany Haddish), who narrates the proceedings, encourages him in his dreams and roots for him when he makes an appearance at a local talent contest.

It would come as no surprise to learn that “Back on the Strip” started out as a “Magic Mike” parody. I’m not saying that it did. But what else could explain the bizarrely literal premise of an ensemble indie comedy in which our hero is a wannabe magician who heads to Vegas hoping to be the next David Copperfield, only to wind up shaking his wand for a Chippendales-style male dance revue instead?
What makes “Strip” so consistently funny for most of its too-long two-hour running time isn’t Merlin’s lame prestidigi-dream (that part feels like co-writers Chris Spencer and Eric Daniel have been watching too many Nickelodeon movies) but the sorry state of his fellow dancers: a has-been crew called the Chocolate Chips. That fairly original hook allowed the filmmakers to round up an A-list lineup for this C-grade endeavor. The movie features everyone from Tiffany Haddish...

Ben Platt gave 'Theater Camp' costume designer Michelle J. Li a "generous" amount of freedom. The 29-year-old actor - who plays Amos Klabuchar opposite Molly Gordon (Rebecca-Diane) in the upcoming musical comedy they wrote with co-star Noah Galvin (Glenn Wintrop) and Gordon's co-director Nick Liberman - gave Li plenty of room to get involved in the ensemble piece. She told The Hollywood Reporter: "He has a series of show T-shirts that, within the context of Theater Camp, his character, Amos, and Rebecca Diane, they have been at this camp for 11 years as best friends."And they create this original musical every single year. And so, Ben gave me a list of 15 to 20 fictitious musicals, and he was like, 'Pick your favorite, and make ‘em into T-shirts.'"And so it was really nice because it was such a generous and collaborative offer, right?"Li noted how Platt...

While in production for Theater Camp, costume designer Michelle J. Li took a trip down memory lane to visit her high school theater department to figure out what kids were really wearing these days.
“I wanted to gain a sense of authenticity,” Li tells The Hollywood Reporter. With a background in theater that led her to the Carnegie Mellon drama school, along with a lifetime of attending Broadway shows with her family, Li, the daughter of Chinese immigrants, always knew she would end up in a creative field.
“The stereotype is that many Asian immigrant parents dissuade their children from pursuing entertainment or careers that are less financially stable, and it makes total sense,” she explains. “However, my parents did encourage me to pursue art, and so I always knew that I was going to land in something creative.”
