June ended up being a particularly busy month of releases, and here’s a look at three different indie films that I had the opportunity to check out over the last several weeks:
Camera Obscura: For his feature film directorial debut, co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz concocts his own “weird episode of Goosebumps” (to borrow a phrase from the film) in Camera Obscura, which feels like a mash-up of Shutter (the original, not the remake) and Final Destination, with a bit of a slasher twist thrown in for good measure. Koontz deftly maneuvers through familiar genre tropes to create an unexpected horror treat, anchored by a strong performance from Christopher Denham (Shutter Island, The Bay).
In Camera Obscura, we meet photographer Jack Zeller (Denham), who has been struggling with Ptsd after returning from shooting photos in the Middle East. His supportive fiancée, Claire (Nadja Bobyleva), decides to pick him...

On Friday, June 9th, Aaron B. Koontz’s Camera Obscura hits theaters before making its way onto VOD platforms everywhere just a few days later on the 13th. The psychological horror film stars Christopher Denham (Money Monster, The Bay), Nadja Bobyleva (Bridge of Spies), Noah Segan (Looper, Starry Eyes, Brick), and also features some other stellar supporting talent that should be familiar to genre fans, including Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End, Beyond the Gates), Andrew Sensenig (We Are Still Here), and Gretchen Lodge (Lovely Molly).
Daily Dead recently spoke to Segan about working on Camera Obscura with both Koontz and Denham, with whom he shares most of his scenes with. Segan also chatted about the privilege of being able to make movies with your friends, getting to be the “good guy,” and more.

In photography, camera obscura is an optical trick that occurs when images are projected through small holes in walls, boxes or other screens. The photographic illusion is more sinister in Aaron B. Koontz’s slow-burning horror film, but it proves less compelling than its centuries-old namesake. Though born of an inventive idea, “Camera Obscura” comes out underdeveloped.
“The nightmare is always the same,” Jack (Christopher Denham) says to his therapist in the film’s quiet opening minutes. What he tells her concerns an insect, a trail of blood and other signifiers that all is not well in his subconscious, where “death always wins” and the ghosts of his past refuse to stay there. A veteran war photographer, he’s so disturbed by memories of what he captured with his camera during his deployment that he’s sworn off his former hobby/profession altogether. He now finds himself wandering through life...

"If you knew someone was going to die, would you try and save them?" Chiller Films has debuted the official trailer for a horror film titled Camera Obscura, arriving in theaters this June. The film is about a veteran war photographer who returns from Afghanistan with Ptsd. His girlfriend gives him an old camera, which he starts shooting with, only to discover (when he develops the film) that it takes photos of imminent deaths. It's kind of like Final Destination, but with a camera. Christopher Denham stars, with Nadja Bobyleva, Catherine Curtin, Chase Williamson, and Noah Segan. The title, Camera Obscura, is a reference to pinhole photography, a real technique that doesn't seem to be used in this. But it's only a title. Here's the first official trailer for Aaron B. Koontz's Camera Obscura, originally from Collider: A veteran war photographer (Christopher Denham) with Ptsd sees imminent deaths in his developed photos,...

From comic-book adaptations to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Here are the new geek-skewed shows coming to Us TV in 2016...
The world of TV has never been so crowded and, at the same time, geeks have never had it so good. As saturated as the big screen is with superhero films and sprawling shared universes, that mentality has well and truly bled onto the small screen too.
So there’s a lot of comic-book adaptations coming up in 2016 from Marvel, DC and others, but genre TV is represented across the board with science-fiction, fantasy and horror represented at pretty much every network and cable channel in the Us.
Here's some of the geek TV that will be making its way to us from the Us next year.
