Earlier this week, we learned that director Erik Bloomquist‘s slasher movie Founders Day has secured a North American distribution deal with Dark Sky Films, and the company is planning to give it a theatrical release sometime in the first quarter of 2024. In preparation for that release, the movie has also now secured a rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Founders Day has been rated R for “strong bloody violence, language, and some sexual references.” So it delivers pretty much what you expect to see from a slasher movie.

The Last Video Store, set to premiere this Friday at Fantastic Fest, pays tribute to the format wars and the video stores of yesteryear through a cursed VHS tape that unleashes terror. Bloody Disgusting has been provided with a clip that demonstrates a horrific fate far worse than late fees for store employees and patrons.
The feature debut of directing duo Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford is described as “Last Action Hero meets Evil Dead” as the VHS Necronomicon has the ability to bring any movie character to life in the real world. That pits the protagonists against a slew of B-movie villains, with the below clip giving a peek at some of the rules and horror.

Jack Lee, the singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer with the 1970s West Coast band The Nerves who wrote the power pop trio’s “Hanging on the Telephone,” famously covered by Debbie Harry and Blondie, has died. He was 71.
Lee died May 26 in Santa Monica after a three-year battle with colon cancer, his family announced. “He never gave up on his music, to the very end,” they wrote in a statement. “His guitar, right by his side. He lived his songs. One by one they told the story of his life. Some dreams die. His never will.”
In 1976, The Nerves — Lee on guitar, Peter Case on bass and Paul Collins on drums — secured a $2,000 loan to record a four-song, self-titled, self-released EP in San Francisco that featured two Lee compositions, “Give Me Some Time” and “Hanging on the Telephone.”

Sometimes a song and a piece of fiction become entwined forever, ensuring that fans cannot think about one without the other: think of "Reservoir Dogs" and "Stuck in the Middle With You," "Grosse Point Blank" and "Blister in the Sun," "Shaun of the Dead" and "Don't Stop Me Now." Then there's the Canadian comedy series "Schitt's Creek" and its connection to the late, great Tina Turner's "The Best." The 1989 song is a big, powerful pop-rock anthem that lets Turner really show off her vocal skills, but it also has some beautiful and deeply romantic lyrics. Written by Holly Knight and Mike Chapman, the song was first performed by Bonnie Tyler (best known for her rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart"), but Turner's version was the ultimate, and "Schitt's Creek" turned it into something even more special by making it the song that united two people in love.
