Typical. You wait years for a movie about a teenage American nun who becomes mysteriously pregnant when she travels to an Italian nunnery and then two come along at once. Consequently, The First Omen – a prequel to the 1976 horror classic – has had its thunder stolen somewhat by Michael Mohan’s excellent Sydney Sweeney-starring nunsploitation picture Immaculate (which is still in cinemas), but still delivers its fair share of tense atmospherics, jump scares and impressive body horror.
The film begins in 1971, with virginal young American novice Margaret (Nell Tiger Free) travelling to Rome, where she’s met by kindly Cardinal Lawrence (Bill Nighy), before beginning her apprenticeship at the Vizzardeli Orphanage, where she will eventually take her vows. Soon, Margaret’s...

The concept of the Kevin Smith horror movie Tusk came out of an episode of Smith’s SModcast podcast in which he and his co-host Scott Mosier started out joking about the idea of a walrus-themed body horror movie and then, in the midst of the banter, Smith was inspired to actually make the movie. (And I’m very thankful that he did.) Smith’s horror anthology KillRoy Was Here started out in a similar way. It has its roots in an episode of the Edumacation podcast, where Smith and co-host Andy McElfresh “accidentally brainstormed a Christmas horror anthology” that would revolve around the child-eating creature known as Krampus. Smith and McElfresh wrote a script and were moving ahead with the film, which was first called Comes the Krampus! and then re-titled Anti-Claus, but then it got abandoned when Michael Dougherty’s Krampus movie was released. It only sat dormant...

If there was one punk group that positioned itself as a leader of a movement for inclusivity, radical change, and allyship in the early 2000s, it was Anti-Flag.
Co-founded by Justin Geever, a.k.a. Justin Sane, in Pittsburgh in 1993, members flitted in and out until the group solidified in 1999. Anti-Flag would go on to draw legions of devoted fans for their progressive messaging and political activism, including anti-war causes and animal-rights advocacy.

“The Boys” ramped up its outrageousness in every way possible in its latest, third season— from, uh, a shrunken man venturing into a human orifice to Jensen Ackles‘ emergence as the Amazon Prime Video show’s satirical take on Captain America (Steve Rogers)… Soldier Boy.
The show, based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is Eric Kripke‘s superhero satire. While comedic in many places, the show is first and foremost a drama and follows Karl Urban and Jack Quaid leading up a squad determined to take down the supes-gone-bad. The supes, in turn, are part of a team called The Seven (led by Anthony Starr‘s Homelander), which are handled by mega-company Vought International.
Vought’s past threatens to catch up with them in season three as Soldier Boy, the world’s first ever superhero, was found alive in a sealed pod,...

There’s some bad blood in the Taylor Swift community. According to a new report from social media tracking firm Graphika, the largest harassment in Swift fandom spaces is happening between radical Gaylor and Anti-Gaylor accounts online — and changing fandom interactions for the worse.
#Gaylor is a long-running fan theory that baselessly purports Swift is queer and is leaving secret messages referring to it in her work. (While she does leave “easter eggs” about various topics in her music, Swift has never said she is anything other than straight...

For most of her career, Rihanna had been making hit after hit — from her 2005 debut, Pon de Replay, to her 2007 Grammy-winning single, Umbrella, and her 2016 No. 1 hit, Work. However, after reaching what many perceived to be her artistic pinnacle with her last album Anti, the pop superstar seemed to have disappeared from the music industry.
It’s been seven long years since Rihanna released an album, and fans have been waiting with bated breath for her next musical offering. But as it turns out, the Diamonds singer has a relatable reason for waiting this long to release a new album.

Fresh off her Super Bowl Lvii performance, Rihanna is now set to sing the Oscar-nominated tune “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the 95th Annual Academy Awards.
The song marks Rihanna’s first Oscar nomination. The music of “Lift Me Up” is from Rihanna, Tems, Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Goransson, while lyrics are from Tems and Coogler.
Other nominees for Best Song are “Applause” from Tell It like a Woman, “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, “Naatu Naatu” from Rrr, and “This Is A Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once.
A nine-time Grammy Award winner, Rihanna has eight multiplatinum albums and 14 singles that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Rihanna’s last album was Anti, which she released in 2016. The singer has explained that she hasn’t released another album since then because Anti was “my most brilliant.”

It’s been over six years since Rihanna released her last album, Anti. While fans have been anticipating something new from the Barbadian singer, Anti is filled with great songs that can hold them over until the next project. Rihanna may have a tough time making an album better than Anti, as she calls it her most “brilliant” and “cohesive” album.

While it’s hard to measure her most commercially successful album due to streaming, none of Rihanna’s previous albums dominated the charts as Anti did. The album only had one No. 1 hit with “Work,” but it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed there for two weeks. It then remained on the Billboard 200 for 354 weeks, becoming the first alum by a black artist to remain on the chart for over 300 weeks.

Rihanna‘s most recent album release was in 2016 when she dropped her beloved eighth studio album Anti. Fans have been clamoring for her next album since then to no avail, as the Barbados-bred beauty has focused on building her Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin brands and Savage X Fenty lingerie line. But Rih is ready to take the stage for the first time in years at the Super Bowl Lvii halftime show, and ahead of her performance, Anti has already earned some new accolades.

Rihanna’s album Anti marked a shift in how Rihanna approached her music career. For the better part of a decade, she churned out hit after hit and album after album every year. After the release of her 2012 album Unapologetic, Rihanna slowed down her output and began focusing more on the music.

In "Violent Night," David Harbour plays a Santa Claus who isn't afraid to knock back a beer or head-butt someone who's naughty. If that doesn't sell itself as a movie premise, I don't know what would. The "Stranger Things" star has hidden his face under red demon makeup before (see: "Hellboy"), but in "Violent Night," Harbour is donning a red stocking cap and grey beard, in service of "seasons beatings." And just because it's an action comedy doesn't mean he went into the role of Santa without doing some research.
Santa Claus as we know him has a long history dating back at least 200 years, when the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (now commonly known as "The Night Before Christmas") was published. The real Saint Nicholas and other historical antecedents like Father Christmas date back even further than that poem, by centuries. Harbour was conscious of this history when...
