Actor Dev Patel, who became a household name with his portrayal of Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, is now looking forward to his directorial debut, Monkey Man. The actor stars alongside Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, and more, in the action-thriller. He not only directed the movie but has co-written the script with Paul Angunawela and John Collee.
Monkey Man premiered at South by Southwest on March 11, 2024, and opened to a positive response from the critics and the audience. The ones who managed to watch the movie have praised the actor’s hard work and dedication toward the project. But like it is said, success does not come easy, and working on the movie had its own challenges for the actors and the crew. He recently shared how he decided to write the script for the movie himself.

If there’s one upcoming MCU project that has been talked about in recent times, it’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. He also confirmed that Yelena Belova would be a part of the Thunderbolts team in the film.

Slumdog Millionaire Slumdog Millionaire, 11.05pm, Film4, Monday, May 9
As always, Danny Boyle brings every ounce of energy to this tale of a teenager who finds himself under police interrogation after he is poised to win the jackpot on the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Jamal Malik (played in the present by Dev Patel and Ayush Mahesh Khedekar and Tanay Hemant Chheda in flashbacks) relates the tale of how he came to know all the answers, as we see his childhood unfold in a blend of romance, humour and, of course, tragedy. Boyle and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy keep mainstream audiences firmly in their sights but there's plenty of home truths about the plight of street kids in India beneath its shiny surface.

What does it mean to be “an Oscar movie?” While folks are mostly aware of the term (and its often negative connotations), the type of movie that actually wins laurels and accolades from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is always in flux. When the institution launched its first ceremony in 1929, the Oscars were initially seen as a way to build hype for the studios’ wares—an industry agreed-upon publicity stunt. But by the end of the next decade, the prestige that came from being dubbed the “Best Picture of the Year” would often be synonymous with the most successful, an idea which seems pretty foreign in 2022.
Hence in the time since Den of Geek carved out its own little corner of the internet—which is 15 years and counting—the idea of an “Oscar movie” has changed and changed again. When this site began, the Academy was still...

Originally scheduled to be a direct-to-dvd feature, Slumdog Millionaire was one of the most shocking commercial and awards successes of the early 2000s. Directed by Trainspotting and 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle, the film stars a bunch of newcomers including Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, which centers around Jamal Malik, who goes on the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” to hopefully win back his one true love. The flashbacks show the 18-year-old’s rough life in Mumbai. In addition to being a financial success, Slumdog beat out The Curious

"Don't believe for a second there's a million-rupee game show you can win to get out of it". That's Balram Halwai thinking aloud, outlining the squalid poverty that he lives every day, as opposed to what Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire might have said. The White Tiger sets its tone bluntly with that line, somewhere in the early portion of a two hour-odd runtime.
The idea is clear: There is no superstar-hosted miracle game show waiting to deliver you if you are Balram Halwai, 'dehati' driver devoted to a wealthy upper caste 'master'. But if you are Balram, and at the wrong end of the social stratum, getting at the wrong end of the law might just help. Only, in a country where 'Wanted' posters that cops issue rarely ever look like the culprit, you have to be smart enough to get away with it.
