After more than a year, the Flenory family is back on TV and the cast behind Starz’s “Bmf” tease there’s much more in store for fans to find.

When the news broke in February that 18-year-old Jayquan McKenley, who recorded under the name Chii Wvttz, had been murdered in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, it sent ripples through a city already reeling from what seemed like one violent incident after another. Many seized on the slain teen’s affiliation with the burgeoning Brooklyn drill scene, seeing an inextricable link between the music and bloodshed — including Eric Adams, New York’s recently inaugurated mayor, who condemned drill as “alarming” and blamed it for inciting violence.

Coi Leray’s album Trendsetter marks the culmination of a nearly four-year journey that began with the RIAA-certified success of 2018’s “Huddy” and continued with 2021’s “No More Parties.” It also included a handful of minor dustups: video of her at last year’s Rolling Loud Miami drew social media mockery for her concert audience’s nonplussed reaction; and, more worryingly, a war of words erupted with her estranged father, rapper and onetime Eminem combatant turned reality-tv star Benzino. Chicago’s Lil Durk raps in a wavy warble that sounds like how a codeine high from a filled-to-the-brim double cup probably feels. But there’s emotion in his register—built up from a lifetime of scrapping it out on his city’s crime-ridden South Side. That Durk manages to make it melodic is part of his hardscrabble charm. Compared to Chief Keef’s minimalist psychopath musings, or G Herbo’s bar-heavy young Og reflections, the 29-year-old offers a mellow read on drill, which he helped pioneer back in the 2010s.

DaBaby has been dropped from the 2021 Governors Ball lineup over his homophobic remarks and comments about HIV/AIDS victims at Rolling Loud Miami.
On Monday, August 2nd, Governors Ball shared a new poster on Twitter with DaBaby’s name now absent from the September 24th lineup (his artist page on the Gov Ball website also brings up an error message). The accompanying tweet teased a new “lineup addition,” while a full statement was also issued: “Founders Entertainment does not and will not tolerate hate or discrimination of any kind. We...

Lollapalooza 2021 was packed with about as much drama as one might expect from a massive festival held during a pandemic. Still, it was also full of life-affirming musical moments. Below, we present just a sampling of those joyful live performances.
Miley Cyrus Brings Out Billy Idol for “White Wedding”
From back-to-back hip-hop guests to non-stop mega-hits, there was a lot to love about Miley Cyrus’ headlining set on the first night of Lollapalooza. By far the biggest moment came when Billy Idol casually waltzed onstage to join her for “Night...

The last time the Foo Fighters headlined Lollapalooza’s flagship festival in Chicago in 2011, the band appeared to have the power to control the skies. During “My Hero,” every guitar stroke seemed dramatically timed to each torrential downpour, eliciting buoyant cheers from the crowd. Back then, weather was the typical worry at an outdoor festival. Now, of course, the main concern over large gatherings such as Lolla is the potential to become a super-spreader event.

Following a week of condemnation in the aftermath of DaBaby’s homophobic remarks at Miami’s Rolling Loud, Lollapalooza announced Sunday that the rapper’s scheduled set at the Chicago fest has been canceled.
“Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” the festival tweeted Sunday. “With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.”
The festival added that Young Thug — the subject of Rolling Stone’s new digital cover story — would slide up into DaBaby’s headlining slot on the reconfigured Sunday schedule,...

Teenagers aren’t typically known for being on time, but the crowd waiting to enter Lollapalooza on Thursday morning proved that generalization wrong. “By 11:30 a.m., it was already poppin’, and usually it’s dead then,” a 25-year-old woman told her friends while waiting for Jimmy Eat World to take the stage. She was right. Thousands of fans arrived early this year in hopes of staking out good sightlines, posing for photo ops, and roaming their first music festival in two years. Wearing fishnet stockings and cowboy hats galore,...

Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour spent a fourth week at Number One on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart. Sour initially debuted at Number One with the biggest consumption week of the year before being knocked from the top perch. It has now rebounded to Number One twice, and after reclaiming the top spot last week, Sour easily maintained its position on the latest chart with 7,700 sales and more than 93 million streams. Taylor Swift is the only other female artist to have an album spend as many weeks at Number One.

Drake has bounced back to the top of the Rolling Stone Artists 500 chart for the week of July 2nd through July 8th.
The rapper’s 117.4 million song streams were enough for him to earn his 26th non-consecutive week at Number One on the Artists 500 chart, and extending his own record for the most total weeks atop the chart. The rapper was able to achieve this feat during a relatively slow release week, with last week’s Number One, Tyler, the Creator, slipping to Number Eight with 76 million streams.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour returned to Number One on the latest Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart with 101 million streams. The 11-song set has now led the ranking on three different weeks — only one other album, Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous, has matched that feat in 2021.

Jay-Z, fresh from his nomination to join the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, shares his powerful collaboration with the late Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle.
The track, “What It Feels Like,” is part of the soundtrack to Judas and the Black Messiah, which tells the story of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton’s assassination by the FBI. Nipsey kicks off the track with a verse about survival in the rap game, a sad foreshadowing given that he was killed in 2019. Jay-Z comes in next with a verse that calls out...

None of that disputes his talent, but his talent is not why he’s currently in the media. He and his musical team are the subjects of an investigation alleging they spent more than four years using stolen credit cards to secure private jets, hotel rooms, and even designer puppies. The rapper is also accused of using the stolen credit cards to pay

In February of 2018, G Herbo was sentenced two years of house arrest after officers caught him with a firearm while riding in a limo in his hometown of Chicago. For the next two years, he would begin to grapple with why: “It was from post traumatic stress disorder,” G Herbo says. “Being nervous and having to carry a firearm everywhere. Any feeling that I got and came to my brain I let it out on wax. It brought me to Ptsd, the album.” Released at the end of February, it...
