Auckland, Nov 25 (Ians) Tom Latham reiterated on Friday why he’s a dependable middle-order batter for New Zealand by striking his seventh Odi hundred to seal a seven-wicket victory over India in the series opener at Eden Park on Friday.
After Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 80 off 76 balls while captain Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill struck 72 and 50 respectively in their fourth hundred-plus stand as an opening pair this year to propel India to a challenging 306/7, New Zealand were in trouble at 88/3 in 19.5 overs.
But Latham took the game away from India, hitting an inexperienced bowling attack all over the park to end up unbeaten on a career-best score of 145 off 104 balls, laced with 19 fours and five sixes.
He also stitched an unbeaten 221-run stand off 165 balls with skipper Kane Williamson, who was the perfect ally and was unconquered at 94 not out to chase the total with 17 balls remaining. For India, they...

New Delhi, Oct 20 (Ians) A day after Pakistan Cricket Board’s (Pcb) threat of not coming to India for 2023 Odi World Cup, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday said that the country will organise the mega event and all the big teams, including Pakistan, will take part in it because no one can ignore India in any field nowadays.
Thakur’s comments came after Pcb requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting in the wake of Bcci secretary Jay Shah’s statement that India won’t travel to Pakistan for next year’s Asia Cup and his demand that the tournament be moved to a neutral venue.
The Pcb in its statement had also mentioned that if India did not travel across the border for the tournament then such a move could jeopardise Pakistan’s participation in the Odi World Cup.

Nightfall. Orchid pink and turquoise blue lights illuminate a roadside dhaba. A man – who we will learn is named Thakur – takes a swig out of a bottle, lights a cigarette, and then heads to his pink and blue Dug Dug motorbike, as a voiceover muses: “In the ashes of this cosmos, I have been seeking the elixir, but the light only knows, where the darkness is hiding. Just stop searching. Don’t go wasting your time. Only those reach their destination who have lost themselves in the lines.” In a bit of irony, Thakur risks his life swaying all over the road, not paying attention to those lines, and his destination ends up being a roadside billboard with the image of Jagudar Pp Sharma on it – clearly a nod to magician Op Sharma. It’s not the fall from his motorbike that kills him, however – in one of...

Cricket and Films are two things that bring the populace of India and Pakistan together. Come this Eid, we will see the release of the Salman Khan - Anushka Sharma starrer Sultan not just in India but also in Pakistan. However, while the Indian release of the film will be a solo one, we hear that across the border Sultan will face competition from a local film titled, Sawaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka. He broke all the rules of stardom and yet was a star, a romantic hero and an all-rounder par excellence. 47 was no age for one of Hindi cinema's brightest talents to go, but on November 6, 1985, Sanjeev Kumar passed away, leaving fans, friends and the Hindi film shell-shocked. Gulzar remembers Sanjeev Kumar "For me, he was the complete actor. I have always said that I had two anchors - one was Sanjeev Kumar, and the other was R.D.Burman. What most people do not know is that I knew Haribhai (as I called him) from the late 1950s. We were both with the Indian National Theatre where I would write for the plays and he was a stage actor. Sanjeev was a student of P.D.Shenoy, who was also teaching at the Filmalaya School of Acting and later turned film director. Sanjeev was just over 20 years old, and he was playing a father!
