The official title of the opera making its U.S. premiere next week is Last Days. But Matt Copson, who co-directed it and also wrote its libretto, knows everyone will call it something else: the Kurt Cobain opera.
“That’s fine,” Copson says. “I’m up for that. It’s not about that, of course. But that’s an interesting entryway into the whole thing.”
In a somber reminder of how time flies, this April marks the 30th anniversary of Cobain’s death. It’s too soon to say how that day will be commemorated,...

Caroline Polachek appeared on The Tonight Show to showcase her dynamic single, “Welcome to My Island.” For the performance, the singer emerged onto a pitch-black stage, where she danced and later played an one-of-a-kind 1980s Gibson Corvus prototype electric guitar as she sang.
The ethereal track comes off Polachek’s second solo LP, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, which dropped in February. She released a trippy music video for the song, co-directed by Polachek and Matt Copson, last year.

Standing In The kitchen at a house party in Rome not long ago, Caroline Polachek heard a song that struck her deeply. “Ti Sento” (“I Hear You”), the 1985 single by Italian pop group Matia Bazar, is peak Eighties Europop kitsch: sparkling synth-pop paired with big, operatic vocals.
Polachek thinks a lot about divas (she loves Celine Dion for “how she exists as an icon, and how pure and comforting and solid that is”), and the performance by Matia Bazar’s singer, Antonella Ruggiero, became a major touchstone for her. “She’s just giving everything,...

Following the critical success of “Billions,” Caroline Polachek is back with the official release of her new track, “Sunset.” Paired with a video peppered with scenes of a rocky beach town in Barcelona, the Sega Bodega-produced song weaves Polachek’s signature otherworldly vocals with Balearic beats, hand claps, and nimble guitar strings.
The song is a quick burn and tells the story of bold, fearless love. Co-directed by Matt Copson and Polachek, the collage-style video follows the singer as she drives through town, plays with kittens in the streets, and sketches from a sun-soaked rooftop.
