What was popular in the soap world in the mid-1970s? Daytime TV magazine used to do a fan poll each month and soap fans would check the polls as soon as they got their copies to find where their favorites ranked. They also included a Nielsen ratings update which was always interesting to compare to the fan poll. In the Flashback pages below, we take a look at what shows and actors were popular in August 1973, 1974 and 1975. Fyi: It was a different soap each August.
Some of the actors are now indie soap stars (Janice Lynde, Denise Alexander) while some are still popular on daytime soaps (Susan Flannery, Bill and Susan Hayes). Other has passed away. They all were making an impact with fans at the time.

At long last, We Love Soaps TV had the opportunity to briefly speak with beloved soap legend Deidre Hall of Days Of Our Lives, who will be returning to the soap on September 26. Please join us for this special chat about Marlena's past, future, as well as Deidre Hall's "healing ways." For which storyline did she consult a real life psychotherapist? Read below and find out.
We Love Soaps TV: I am so honored to meet you! It is with pride that I tell you I became interested in Psychology because of Marlena Evans on Days Of Our Lives.
Deidre Hall: Stop it!
We Love Soaps TV: Seriously.
Deidre Hall: I’m so pleased, thank you.
We Love Soaps TV: Laura Horton had been on the show before then, but never seemed to actually see any patients. Marlena always had patients coming in and out of her office,...

In Part 1 of our interview with writer Sheri Anderson, the Emmy Award winner revealed how the new trilogy of Days Of Our Lives novels came about, and shared her thoughts on web series and how soap operas can be informative and still entertaining.
In Part 2 below, Anderson discusses her last stint at Days, not cheating the audience, and making a living as a writer.
We Love Soaps TV: How much fun was it to write these novels without having to think about sets or actors?
Sheri Anderson: I developed an animated show at one point and it was the same thing where you'd say, "Wow, I can go anywhere!" I had some of The Powers That Be say after the first novel, "This would make a great movie. We should make this a movie." It has 600 foot yachts in the south of France, superstars, Maseratis and Aston Martins crashing.

Remembering "The Young Marrieds" – 45 Years Later
By Rob Wargo
Forty-five years ago – March 25, 1966, to be exact – ABC aired the 380th and final episode of The Young Marrieds, a companion series of sorts to General Hospital, launched approximately 18 months prior to Tym’s debut on October 5, 1964. The series was produced in Los Angeles by Selmur Productions, the same in-house production company responsible for producing General Hospital, and purportedly was set in the same town as Gh, although there was no interaction between the characters in the respective series. Tym was created by James Elward and written by him and Frances Rickett. During its 18 months on the air, Tym faced stiff competition from CBS’ The Edge Of Night and NBC’s You Don't Say. Although the show ranked tenth out of seventeen soaps for the 1965-1966 season, ABC still decided to cancel the series. Tym had replaced Queen For A Day on the ABC Daytime schedule,...
