Harry Shearer is spending Christmas with the devil, as he does every year, when the Spinal Tap holiday chestnut comes up as part of the annual “Christmas Without Tears” live shows he and his wife, singer-songwriter Judith Owen, do for charity. This year, the event is going virtual, with an array of new guests such as Donald Fagen, Richard Thompson and Ringo Starr taking part in a webcast that begins at 2 p.m. Pt on Friday, Dec. 11.
It’s the cap to an unusually busy year. Along with hosting duties on his weekly syndicated public radio program, “Le Show,” Shearer also has his regular gig voicing 14-plus different characters on “The Simpsons.” The satirical, spot-on impressionist just released a rich musical album as the president, “The Many Moods of Donald Trump.”
There was activity on the Spinal Tap front, too. The faux metal thundergods reunited in October for a Democratic fundraiser.

David Lander, the 73-year old actor and comedian best known as ‘Squiggy’ on the ABC sitcom “Laverne & Shirley,” died from complications related to multiple sclerosis on Friday night.
Hours before his passing, Variety spoke to Lander’s longtime friend and one-time collaborator Harry Shearer. The “Le Show” radio host, Spinal Tap co-creator, “The Simpsons” cast member and satirist was talking about everything from his recent album, “The Many Moods of Donald Trump,” to his Dec. 11 virtual “Christmas Without Tears” event, co-hosted by his wife Judith Owen, when he began discussing the art of collaboration.
“The very first collaboration that I had in my professional life was with a couple of people in a comedy group, and one of its members was a guy, David L. Lander – very famous as ‘Squiggy’ for a while on TV – was just the most masterful person.”
The group that Shearer is talking about is The Credibility Gap,...

Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour joined Richard Thompson at the latter’s 70th birthday concert in London Monday for a performance of “Dimming of the Day,” the closing track of Richard and Linda Thompson’s 1975 album, Pour Down Like Silver.
Gilmour sang lead and played guitar on the lilting folk rock song, and about midway through he played a solo that recalled the melody he played on “Comfortably Numb.” Thompson then took the lead for a more avant-garde solo. According to reports, Gilmour and Thompson then played “Fat Old Sun,...

It was a brutal Winter (of our discontent), but it's finally Spring and there's plenty of new music to thaw even the most solid block of plowed snow. Here are ten of my favorite new rock/pop/dance/funk/folk tunes. Let us begin with this tremendous track (and album) from one of my favorite folk-rock singer/songwriters, the former New Yorker and now L.A.-based David Poe. Here he shares his muse on his debut single "When I Fly" from his soon-to-be-released long player When I Fly. Check him out on tour, too.
Nsfw aside, the "Leeches" video -- directed by Jessica Lauretti of the band This Frontier Needs Heroes -- is just one of the infectious tracks from the Shoulders album released by the terrifically talented singer/songwriter/composer Pt Walkley, who just happens to hail from NYC. So there.

Singer/songwriter/pianist Judith Owen proudly wears her troubadour influences -- Carole King, Laura Nyro, Joni -- on her sleeve. Hey, being informed by such grand company only works when you can deliver. And deliver she does on her latest solo effort Ebb & Flow. She even enlisted one of the best La backing bands ever -- bassist Leland Sklar, drummer Russ Kunkel, and guitarist Waddy Wachtel. "I've Never Been To Texas" is one of my favorite songs from her soon-to-be-released, delightful soft rock album. She's currently on tour with Mr. Sklar. Don't miss her!

Good afternoon everyone!
Angelina Jolie is set to direct her second feature film.

Jolie will helm the World War II bi-pic Unbroken. The film will be an adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand's book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption. It's a true story about Louis Zamperini, “a competitor at the 1936 Olympics who, as a U.S. Army Air Forces bombardier during World War II, survived a plane crash and then spent the rest of the war in a Japanese prison camp.”
Jennifer Lawrence is posing like a superhero on the cover of South Africa's Marie Claire. And I thank her for that.
Out model/actress Jessica Clark (True Blood) has a holiday gift for you!

The Simpsons' star Harry Shearer threw a Christmas party to cheer up his homesick British wife Judith Owen - and it was so much fun they turned it into a stage show.
The couple wed in 1993 but Owen became depressed during her first festive season in sunny California because she missed the traditional wintry weather in London.
So Shearer invited his pals over to their house for a Christmas sing-song to remind his wife of her roots - and the party inspired the couple to produce their seasonal stage show, Judith Owen and Harry Shearer's Holiday Sing-Along.
He says, "It comes from a party that my wife Judith Owen and I used to have at our house in California cos she was sad - she had moved to California and missed the cold and the damp of the London winter and the London Christmas and she wanted to recreate the feeling of a musical gathering. So we invited our musical friends over. And we would sing and have all sorts of musical friends around, and food and wine would be served, and it was just a way of recreating the warmth of a Christmas musical gathering. So we have now taken it to theatre."...
