A Beheading Before the Big Game Featured in Exclusive Clip from The Third Saturday In October Part V
The Third Saturday In October Part V and Part I are now available on digital and VOD courtesy of Dark Sky Films! A "double feature of terror" that harkens back to the video store horror days, we have an exclusive clip, along with comments from writer / director Jay Burleson!
"What if a lost horror franchise made during the peak of the slasher genre was unearthed today, but only two of the films could be restored? Filmmaker Jay Burleson imagined just that with The Third Saturday In October: Part V and The Third Saturday In October: Part I coming to VOD + Digital Platforms May 5th from Dark Sky Films.
A double feature of terror, The Third Saturday In October Part V sees unstoppable killer Jakkariah Harding once again stalking and butchering the football-loving residents of a small Alabama town, this time finding a treasure trove of victims after he chances upon a football watch party.

The Third Saturday in October was actually conceived before the slasher boom of the 1980s but wasn’t filmed until after the success of Halloween and Friday the 13th. Its odd perspective on the genre soon made it a cult film. But, as the title card tells us, this isn’t that film. This is The Third Saturday in October Part V, the fourth sequel from 1994.
A narrator takes us through a recap of the previous instalments concerning Jakkariah “Jack” Harding a serial killer who survived the electric chair and has terrified the town of Hackleburg Alabama every fall since his attacks timed to coincide with the big game between Alabama-Mobile Seahawks and the Tennessee A&m Commonwealth. But, as the narrator informs us, “This...

This is a tough review to do for two reasons. The first is that it’s not one film, but eight. The second is that I am so far out of the target audience I would simple never have watched this or thought about watching this if I weren’t reviewing it. With that in mind, this won’t be my personal view of what this collection is, but a reflection of what it’s trying to be.
Hi-8: Horror Independent Eight is a project given to eight directors. The idea is to create a short movie using absolutely no technology from the post-Internet age, so no HD cameras, digital effects or found footage. Man, looking back at it, 2015 seems like an awfully long time ago now. Donald Trump wasn’t yet installed in the White House, the alt-right, though forever bubbling away, hadn’t been emboldened into action across the globe and we, here in the UK, weren’t yet divided by the madness of Brexit.
It was a simpler time indeed.

Boom! That was the sound of your minds being blown.
If you fall into this aforementioned camp and like your horror a little lighter, then keep moving along. If, however, you fancy joining the hordes of rabid fans clamouring for this material and taking the plunge into something quite a way away from the mainstream then you really should start by taking a peek at the slate of films being offered up by those fine folks at Unearthed Films, arguably the finest distributor of the best extreme and bizarre cinema in the world.

When you think of the Guinea Pig series you think lo-fi, low budget exploitation shockers that push the boundaries of taste and decency, packed with gore and not much story. Which is essentially what Stephen Biro and co. brought to American audiences with the first film in the American Guinea Pig series… What you don’t think of with this particular franchise is a well-presented, well-constructed, well though-out horror that is packed with gore yet still gives the likes of Blumhouse a run for their money in terms of production values and storytelling.
But that’s Exactly what you get with American Guinea Pig: The Song of Solomon.

But that was two years ago… Now? Krampus is probably best remembered here by a bunch of unsuspecting supermarket shoppers, who picked up the previous two terrible Dtv films (The Reckoning and The Christmas Devil), as a disappointment and something to be avoided. Which...

Director Ron Bonk, who has been in the B-Movie business since 1992 and was responsible for distributing some of St. Louis’ own Eric Stanze’s work onto VHS, is trying to get some money together to make an homage to Jaws called House Shark. Not to crib from the campaign of Pieces but, it’s exactly what you think it is. Sure, Burning Bright had a family trapped in a house with a tiger (Awesome flick, if you haven’t seen it) and even Bait, starring You’re Next’s Sharni Vinson, where people are trapped in a supermarket with a shark. House Shark is something entirely different. Instead of taking it seriously like the two previous movies I’ve mentioned, this one is going straight for the absurdity. Hear his pitch below:
Bonk has an IndieGoGo campaign where he is trying to raise $15,000 to get this film made, with a...

As a kid growing up in the 80s there were only a handful of women who, at least for this young horror fan, could sell a film on their name alone. For T&A terror it was the likes of Brinke Stevens, Michelle Bauer and Linnea Quigley; but for the real stuff, the truly horrorfying movies it was Barbara Crampton. To this day I will watch any film to which her name is attached, he presence in a movie, especially a horror movie, always elevates the production. Which is why We Are Still Here was pretty much a given at this years Frightfest!
But it’s not just the presence of Crampton that attracted me to this particular slice of New England horror.

From director Dustin Wayde Mills (Skinless, Easter Casket, Applecart) comes Her Name Was Torment II: Agony, the sequel to last years runaway underground horror hit.
After a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo – of which I was one of the backers – which blew through it’s goal to raise 178% of its intended target, Mills has completed filming of his new Crumpleshack Films feature, with an intended Summer 2015 release date.
Once again starring a wealth of Mills’ regular cohorts: Dave Parker, Haley Madison, Erin R. Ryan, Allison Egan and Brandon Salkil to name a few; Her Name was Torment II used some of that crowdfunding cash to hire special effects wizard Marcus Koch (100 Tears, Sweatshop, The Theatre Bizarre, American Guinea Pig) to add that little extra “something” to the films gore-filled scenes!

As far as directorial debuts go, writer/director Ted Geoghegan has done an admirable job with We Are Still Here by crafting a quirky and clever supernaturally-infused tale of horror that wisely chooses to take a rather familiar premise into some unusual and often shocking territories. For anyone who grew up on a steady diet of horror movies from the last few decades, We Are Still Here has a lot of ingenuity and heart to offer as well as an unflinching third act that goes right for the jugular.

The notorious Guinea Pig film series is apparently paving the wave for an American counterpart entitled, appropriately, American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore. When an e-mail about the trailer floated my way, the "Plot Outline" simply read: "Death." Fair enough. And the trailer? It delivers on that.
It's rather cold and crude, as it should be I suppose, and it features a trio of dudes taking bodies apart. The preview comes across as more of an impressive, albeit hyper violent, special FX demo reel (in this case for Marcus Koch).

Two new one-sheets have come our way for the upcoming indie flick Circus of the Dead, which features the great Bill Oberst, Jr., as a psycho clown along with Parrish Randall and more! Check out the goodies!
Oberst describes his character, Papa Corn, as "a homicidal serial rapist with a taste for necrophilia whose day job happens to be as a circus clown. He and his highly disturbed fellow clowns use the circus as cover for some of the darkest and most graphic acts of violence I have ever seen in a script or on a set."
"The effects team, led by Marcus Koch and Matthew Ash, has been churning out corpses and body parts non-stop for the entire five-week shoot," says Oberst. "We've sawed off heads, hands, and tongues; stripped the skin off a living man's face; drooled clown slime on multiple females in varying states of undress; and...

Finally the trailer is here for Nightfall Pictures and Twisted Illusions' new anthology film Hi-8 (which stands for Horror. Independent. 8 Filmmakers), and we we have it here for you dripping with indie horror goodness.
From the Press Release
Hi-8 is produced by Brad Sykes, Josephina Sykes, and Tim Ritter. The directors’ lineup is Tim Ritter (Truth or Dare), Brad Sykes (Camp Blood), Marcus Koch (100 Tears), Ron Bonk (The Vicious Sweet), Donald Farmer (Savage Vengeance), Todd Sheets (Zombie Bloodbath), Chris Seaver (Filthy McNasty), and Tony Masiello (Sov: The True Independents).
Producer Brad Sykes got the idea for the anthology while working on Srs Cinema’s upcoming VHS/DVD release of his feature The Pact, which was shot on the Hi-8 format back in 1995 while Sykes was still a college student. He missed those days of carefree filmmaking and approached Tim Ritter with the idea, who already had the Hi-8 title and concept ready to go.

In Conor McMahon’s Stitches, acclaimed British comedian Ross Noble plays Stitches Grindle, a hard-drinking mess of a clown whose destructive ways catch up with him at young Tom’s birthday party – leading to his accidental, violent death.
Six years later, Stitches returns from the dead to take revenge on the brats who put him six feet under… turning the tables on them as only a clown can.
In honor of Stitches hitting Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, April 2nd, we’ve decided to take a look back at cinema’s killer clowns through the years, and picked out a handful of our absolute favorites:
6) The Trio, Clownhouse (1989)
A trio of mental patients murder circus clowns, taking their guises to torment a young boy and his brothers (one played by a young Sam Rockwell) during a long night alone in their family home. A genuinely unsettling tale that delves deep...

The first thought that came to mind upon arriving to director Buddy Giovinazzo’s then-shooting supernatural horror flick Ginger on Sunday, December 18 of 2011 was, “This looks like some place Charles Manson would have frequented back in the Sixties.” As I was to find, I was correct in that assumption, and as it turned out, Giovinazzo himself, too, was working hard to add yet another creepy chapter to the location’s storied past alongside Ginger stars Marc Senter and Elissa Dowling.

Director: Stacy Davidson.
Writers: Stacy Davidson and Ted Geoghegan.
This reviewer has seen far too many B movies. Right out of the starting gate this critic guessed the film's location, budget and formula within about ten minutes, based on the cast and some other info' on this film. These guesses were all correct. However, writers Stacy Davidson and Ted Geoghegan get very little right in their small budgeted film (less than 15K). There is no backstory to a murdering serial killer and his cave dwelling followers, Swearing is used in place of dialogue, while dancing scenes highlight the film's lack of depth. There is very little in the way of script and the characters are all despicable, for one reason or another. Sweatshop fails on so many film elements. However, some of the effects from Marcus Koch brought the film some horrific class, despite the Sweatshop's many flaws.

As champions of indie cinema, Dread Central is often privy to early details on upcoming projects, and today we have for you a first look at Kristian Day's Vessel in the form of a very preliminary plot breakdown and stills from the film along with two different posters.
Vessel stars actor, author, and public speaker Frank Meeink. He wrote the book Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead, and a major TV network just picked up a new reality show he'll be hosting. It also stars Vanessa Giselle, Jerika Rangel, Ryan Kolder, and Barron Christian. All the make-up was done by Patrick Boltinghouse of Vanity and Glamour.
Vessel was produced, directed, written, and photographed by Kristian Day and inspired by an idea from Marcus Koch (100 Tears, Fell). It was shot during 2010 in Des Moines, Iowa, and is currently in post production aiming for an October 2011 release.

Fell starring Jeff Dylan Graham Usually when it comes to the politics of a film finding distribution or getting into film fests, we here at Big Daddy Horror Reviews usually stay away from that as our main thing is on reporting on the latest horror news and offering up reviews of the latest horror films. However, when a quality film can't even get into a film fest and find distribution, that's like a double whammy for the film making it so that people won't be able to see the film and for word of mouth to start spreading on it. That's what is happening to Fell from Marcus Koch and starring Jeff Dylan Graham.
Fell deals with young man (Jeff Dylan Graham) who has apparently murdered a woman in his bathtub. He wakes up from a prescription drug induced sleep where the lines between reality and a nightmarish world are blurred.

Plot: It was a foolish thing to do, and Calvin had not bothered with it the past two years, not since the death of his wife and child. Florida FX artist and filmmaker Marcus Koch, who just previously had given us the splatterific clown-slasher gorefest 100 Tears, takes on a totally different type of film with his latest feature Fell. Fell stars Jeff Dylan Graham as Bill, a young man with a variety of personal problems he tries to wash away with drugs and alcohol. Faced with memory loss after waking up to finding a dead woman’s body in his bathtub, he spends his hours alone eating, taking pills, drinking, and trying to regain his memory and figure out how to rectify his situation.
