We may have had to wait two years for the third season of HBO Max’s “Hacks” to hit our screens but, boy, was it worth it. Ths third edition is a showcase for Jean Smart who plays Deborah Vance, a veteran stand-up experiencing a resurgence in her career. Hannah Einbinder co-stars as Ava Daniels, a comedy writer working to kick-start her career.
The relationship between those two women is at the heart of the show and season three is no different, with the chemistry between Smart and Einbinder reaching new levels. This is, still, however, the Jean Smart show. She aces every moment of comedy, perfectly embodying the Joan Rivers type of comedian that Deborah is. But what elevates the character and Smart’s performance to the next level are the touches of humanity and vulnerability sown into the role.
Critics agree, Smart is turning in career-best work.

“Atlanta” is bowing out with a final season and hoping to earn one last Best Comedy Series nomination after a stellar run at the Emmys.
Donald Glover‘s hit FX show, which he created, co-writes, co-directs, and stars in follows the multi-hyphenate as Earn, who tries to help his cousin Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry) make a career as a rapper in Atlanta named Paper Boi. Across the show’s run, they and Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) come across various issues that touch on money, race, relationship, status, and parenthood.
The show has moments of real drama and has received acclaim for its distinct brand of eccentric humor, driven by Glover. With moments of bizarre surrealness, the show is idiosyncratic in its ideas and executions and is one of the most unique shows from one of the most impressive storytellers out there.
The show has always been well-received and its fourth and final season,...

Amazon Prime Video’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” television adaptation has been canceled after one season, Variety has confirmed.
The teen horror series, based on the 1973 novel of the same name that was also adapted into a film in 1997, follows a group of friends who are mercilessly stalked by a serial killer after they cover up a fatal car accident. The show stars Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Bill Heck, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck and Brooke Bloom.
The first four episodes of the eight-part series premiered on Oct. 15, with the rest of the show’s installments debuting on a weekly basis thereafter. The show received mixed reviews, with Variety‘s Latoya Ferguson calling it “an overlong story that an otherwise talented cast has to work hard to land.”

From someplace other than the cast members’ homes, it’s “Saturday Night Live!” At least, that’s what the team behind NBC’s long-running sketch comedy show is reportedly hoping for.
Variety reported that show creator Lorne Michaels and his team are making plans to bring the show back to NBC’s Manhattan studios in time for Season 46, which is slated to premiere in the fall. Nothing is set in stone, given the continued uncertainty of the entertainment industry’s film and TV productions, but the publication noted that one early idea would see the show made in a “controlled” environment minus the live studio audience. Per that strategy, episodes would be made in a similar vein to NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” which recently began taping episodes in a studio and included mask-wearing crews, a socially distanced band, and guests appearing via videoconferencing technology.
