Just when Liam Neeson thought he was out, they pull him back in. Samuel Goldwyn Films has dropped the first trailer for Absolution, an action thriller starring Liam Neeson as an aging gangster who attempts to reconnect with his children and rectify the mistakes in his past. However, the criminal underworld won’t loosen its grip willingly.
Absolution has all the hallmarks of a Liam Neeson action thriller: a conflicted man pushed to his limit, icy glares, and, of course, plenty of cracked skulls and gunshots. Neeson stars in Absolution alongside Yolonda Ross, Frankie Shaw, Daniel Diemer, Javier Molina, Jimmy Gonzales, Josh Drennen, Deanna Nayr Tarraza, Terrence Pulliam, and Ron Perlman. Hans Petter Moland directed the film from a script by Tony Gayton.

Becky G took the Oscars stage to perform “The Fire Inside” from the Eva Longoria-directed film Flamin’ Hot.
Diane Warren wrote the song for the film about Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor who became an executive after inventing Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Ahead of the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, Longoria talked about the excitement her directorial debut getting some recognition at the Academy Awards.
“I have goosebumps. I can’t believe it. I can because Diane Warren wrote the song, so she’s a genius and Becky G is a genius,” Longoria told Laverne Cox on Live from E! red carpet coverage. “Their performance tonight… You will never be more proud to be a Latino and a Chicano, but Becky’s thought and love that she put into this performance tonight is going to blow everybody away. She has some special guest from Inglewood.”
She continued, “We don’t ever get this platform.

Update: President Joe Biden said that Flamin’ Hot was “the first-ever public screening of a film focused on the Hispanic community at the White House,” just before the Disney+/Hulu project was shown before a crowd of several hundred on the South Lawn.
Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and director Eva Longoria walked out together to make brief remarks to the crowd, who were spread out on blankets and munching on chips and, of course, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. The movie is the story of Frito Lay janitor Richard Montañez, who claimed to have invented the snack, although the origin story is in dispute. Montañez rose in the ranks at Frito Lay to become a marketing executive and “played a key role in accelerating the growth of our Flamin’ Hot Brand and other brands particularly through his Hispanic marketing efforts,” according to the company.

Searchlight’s Flamin’ Hot trailer delves into the true story behind the popular (but messy) Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera) stars as Richard Montañez, the janitor at a Frito-Lay factory who helped turn the industry around by cooking up a spicy version of the cheesy snack food.
“My journey is the journey of billions of people,” said the real Richard Montañez. “Being Mexican, being born in a labor camp, I’ve been fighting my whole life. I don’t know what it’s like not to fight.”
Director Eva Longoria calls Montañez the godfather of Hispanic marketing.
“That was his gift: seeing that nobody was paying attention to the Hispanic consumer. His gift wasn’t making a recipe in a chemical lab. His genius and talent and where he broke through was saying, ‘You guys, there’s a huge segment of the population in the United States that nobody is paying attention to,...

The first trailer for Eva Longoria’s directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot, has dropped and reveals Jesse Garcia playing Richard Montañez, a go-getting Mexican American who in real life claims he went from working as a janitor at Frito-Lay to inventing the successful Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack product.
“Spicy? See, that’s how I got here,” Montañez says at one point as the Searchlight Pictures teaser recalls his youthful past in gangs and committing petty crimes, before Longoria’s rags-to-riches story has him inventing the salty Cheetos snack for Frito-Lay.
The trailer, which Garcia narrates, shows the breakthrough moment when he discovers that adding chili seasoning to Cheetos will bring a delicious heat to the snack product and potentially woo a far wider U.S. market. “I got an idea. It’s a spicy chip. It’s gonna change everything,” Montañez tells his skeptical floor manager, played by Matt Walsh.

Two's a coincidence, but three films about the origins of real-life brands releasing in the span of a few months? That's a trend.
On the heels of "Tetris" and "Air" comes "Flamin' Hot," the latest entry in the growing sub-genre that /Film's Rafael Motamayor has referred to as "the brand movie or product biopic (the prodpic?)." This time, the focus is on Richard Montañez, who rose from being a humble janitor at a Frito-Lay factory to a successful businessman and the self-proclaimed creator of Flamin' Hot Cheetos. The film is based on Montañez's memoir, "A Boy, a Burrito and a Cookie: From Janitor to Executive," and was directed by former "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria, drawing from Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette's script.
Similar to "Tetris," Longoria's brand movie will be skipping theaters to release directly to streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally -- although,...

"The Hispanic market will not be ignored!" Searchlight Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for Flamin' Hot, an indie comedy directed by Mexican-American actress Eva Longoria. You might've already heard about this one - yes, this movie is about the guy who invented and convinced Frito Lay to make the "Flamin' Hot" flavor Cheetos and chips. It premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival to rave reviews, and will be out to watch streaming on Disney+ and Hulu this June. This is the inspiring true story of Richard Montañez who as a Frito Lay janitor disrupted the food industry by channeling his Mexican American heritage to turn Flamin' Hot Cheetos from a snack into an iconic global pop culture phenomenon. Starring Jesse Garcia as Montañez, with Annie Gonzalez, Dennis Haysbert, Emilio Rivera, Tony Shalhoub, Matt Walsh, Pepe Serna, Bobby Soto, Jimmy Gonzales, Brice Gonzalez, and Hunter Jones. I recently watched the film and it's fantastic!

Set in 1956 and ’57, The Long Game abounds in spectacular vintage cars, pristine and gleaming and a signal of the tidy shape of the movie’s narrative. That’s not to say there are no ups and downs, no setbacks and reversals in the drama that unfolds, but director Julio Quintana (The Vessel) has tailored it to reassure, using gentle comic strokes and zingy visuals to explore a true story of sports underdogs and their triumph against bigotry. Jay Hernandez provides the grounded enthusiasm as a high school administrator with a passion for golf and a vision of better things for Mexican Americans like him and his students. Together, he and his coltish team, dubbed the Mustangs, take on the country-club set, with Dennis Quaid providing effortless old-timer charm as a key ally and Cheech Marin on hand as a wiseass Yoda.

South by Southwest is back for another year of the rootin’-est, tootin’-est, most queso-heavy film festival on the planet, as it invades Austin, Texas, alongside the music component of the festival.
The entire experience is now called the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals and takes place in Austin from March 10-18. If you’ve never been, it is an absolute blast, like Sundance but with better weather, better food and nicer people (though without the skiing and snowboarding). And this year’s line-up is no different, featuring splashy Hollywood premieres, hotly tipped indies and a ton of stuff you’ve never, ever heard of.
The entire thing kicks off with a bang – the premiere of Paramount’s hotly anticipated “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” directed and co-written by the “Game Night” team of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

Many a chef will tell you that fish and cheese don’t go together, but “Blue Miracle” says otherwise. Based on the true, headline-making story of an amateur Mexican team who won the world’s richest fishing tournament in 2014, Julio Quintana’s likable family film misses nary a cornball trick in Hollywood’s underdog-drama playbook, and just about pulls it off.
Viewers can see precisely where Quintana and co-writer Chris Dowling have embellished the saga of Cabo orphanage proprietor Omar Venegas, who led a handful of his teenage wards to that unlikely victory: “Blue Miracle” is awash with eleventh-hour peril and contrivance, reducing characters to stock figures to make plain sailing of its crowd-pleasing narrative. Audiences are unlikely to mind as they discover the film on Netflix: It’s a processed fish stick rather than a blue marlin steak, but it fills you up just the same.

Spoiler Alert: The following article contains details about tonight’s Season 3 finale of Mayans M.C.
At the end of Mayans M.C.‘s Season 3 finale, which aired tonight on FX, Ez (Jd Pardo) and Santo Padre seems on the brink of all-out war with the other Mayans charters.
Written by Debra Moore Muñoz and directed by Elgin James, “Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write” opens peacefully, with Ez dreaming of his late mother, before awakening to the love of his life, Gaby (Sulem Calderon). The pair are planning to start a new life in Lodi, after Ez ties up loose ends for the club.
For Ez, “tying up loose ends” means staking out a garage where members of the Yuma charter hang out, along with Angel (Clayon Cardenas) and Gilly (Vincent Vargas), taking out Canche (Jimmy Gonzales) with a bomb, so that Bishop (Michael Irby) can take over as the Mayans’ “one king.

"Fish on!!" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for the inspirational family film Blue Miracle, based on a true story about a Mexican orphanage that competes in a fishing tournament. The film's main cast includes Jimmy Gonzales, Anthony Gonzalez, Bruce McGill, Nathan Arenas, Raymond Cruz, Miguel Angel Garcia, Isaac Arellanes, Steve Gutierrez, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, Fernanda Urrejola, andSilverio Palacios. In the opening moments of “Blood on Her Name,” an arrestingly twisty and suspenseful Southern noir thriller in the tradition of “One False Move,” we’re introduced to Leigh, the working-class protagonist played by Bethany Anne Lind, with a jarring close-up that is at once explicit and ambiguous. Her face is battered, her breathing is labored, and she appears to have just gotten the worst of it in a fight.
But, then again, maybe not the very worst of it.
The bloodied man lying in front of her, we quickly learn, isn’t just unconscious or injured; he is seriously dead. And even before she pauses before completing a 911 call, it’s quite clear that, whatever the reason for the guy’s recent quietus, Leigh views his inconvenient corpse as incriminating evidence.
This is the first of several wrong decisions — most, but by no means all, made by Leigh — that...

"You're my daughter, this is my problem!" Vertical Entertainment has debuted the full-length official trailer for the "critically acclaimed Southern Gothic neo-noir thriller" titled Blood on Her Name, which marks the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Matthew Pope. We featured a teaser trailer for this last year, to promote the film's premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival. It's arriving in theaters and also on VOD later this month. Blood on Her Name is about a local garage owner named Leigh who ends up with a dead body on her hands. Her panicked decision to cover up an accidental killing spins out of control when her conscience demands she return the dead man's body to his family. The film stars Bethany Anne Lind, Will Patton, Elisabeth Röhm, Jared Ivers, Jimmy Gonzales, and Jack Andrews. I think the teaser is better than this full trailer, but maybe it's just the way this is put together.

Director: Matthew Pope. Writers: Don M. Thompson, Matthew Pope. Cast: Bethany Anne Lind, Will Patton, Elisabeth Röhm, Jared Ivers and Jimmy Gonzales. Blood on Her Name is the feature debut of Matthew Pope. Set in the South of America, Blood on Her Name had its premiere in Montreal, at this year's Fantasia Film Festival. Self-described as a noir thriller, the film develops more as a crime thriller and mystery as plot elements are slowly revealed. Requiring some secrecy, it would be best for film fans to simply see this well executed film for themselves. Events begin with Lee (Bethany Anne Lind) and a body. Over time, plot details, leading to a murder, are revealed. Initially, the after events of the crime are shown, followed by a look at the characters and their motivations. Lee is a mother, trying to keep her son on the right path. Lee's father, Richard (Will...

"I keep thinking I hear sirens... Is that weird?" Yellow Veil Pictures has unveiled a teaser trailer for an indie noir thriller titled Blood on Her Name, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Matthew Pope. The film is premiering at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal coming up this month, and they've released this teaser to drum up some interest before it plays there. I dig the grainy, rainy look and feel of this teaser. Let's hope the film is as good as it looks.

“Lodge 49” has been renewed for a second season at AMC ahead of its Season 1 finale.
The series is described as modern fable set in Long Beach, California about a disarmingly optimistic local ex-surfer, Dud (Wyatt Russell), who’s drifting after the death of his father and collapse of the family business.
In the first season, Dud found himself on the doorstep of a rundown fraternal lodge, where a middle-aged plumbing salesman and “Luminous Knight” of the order welcomes him into a world of domestic beer, easy camaraderie and the promise of Alchemical mysteries that may or may not put Dud on the path to recover the idyllic life he’s lost.
In addition to Russell, Jennings, and Cassidy, the series also stars Linda Emond, David Pasquesi, Eric Allan Kramer, Avis-Marie Barnes, Njema Williams, and Jimmy Gonzales.
Series creator, writer and executive producer Jim Gavin will return for Season 2 along with showrunner Peter Ocko.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Greenhouse Studios. Director: Scooter Downey. Writers: Scooter Downey, and Sean Elliot. Cast: Lance Henriksen, Sean Elliot, Rose Sirna and Jimmy Gonzales. It's in the Blood is a small indie production centrally starring Lance Henriksen and Sean Elliot. Elliot also performed writing duties on this thriller. But, can this film be classified into one genre? There are elements of horror with creatures and ghosts appearing within foggy environments. There are dramatic elements as well as a father and a son try to bond after a tragic event. This is also a psychological journey. Characters October (Elliot) and Russell (Henriksen) are externalizing some of their angst in this hiking trip gone wrong. It's in the Blood is a blend of genres, but essentially this title is a psychological drama. The story does begin simply with a trip out into the woods.
