Following the May 4 episode of “Survivor 42,” only seven castaways still have a shot of joining the show’s iconic winners list. Among them is Omar Zaheer, who’s angling to become the first castaway of Muslim faith ever to win “Survivor” after two decades and 41 seasons. As of this writing, the 31-year-old Ontario exotic animal veterinarian is tied for the #1 spot (with Maryanne Oketch) in Gold Derby’s “Survivor 42” predictions, which are determined by our readers.
Omar’s religion has been mentioned a few times on the CBS reality TV show, including in the second episode when he told his Taku tribe mates that he’d be happy to answer any questions they might have. After the merge, Mike Turner watched Omar as he prayed and then started a discussion in order to better educate himself. “We all ain’t that different,” Mike came to realize (watch below). At the start of the upcoming sixth episode of “Survivor 42,” the 12 remaining players arrive at their next challenge to some interesting news from Jeff Probst. “You have entered the next stage of the game,” teases the host, “where tribes are no more and the game has become individual. Everybody, drop your buffs!” This is usually the stage in the competition where the tribes merge into one, which is why Mike Turner asks if they’re merged. “Not exactly,” Jeff responds in the “Survivor 42” preview trailer above. Cue the groans from the players.

For the first time since Season 1, the winner of “Survivor 41” will be announced on the island. Let that sink in. There won’t be a cheering studio audience, no emotional family member hugs, not even a live reunion with all of the castaways. Jeff Probst spoke candidly with TVLine about the decision to scrap the live element of the finale and do everything in Fiji this time around, with one of his biggest takeaways being that he misses the “big energy” of having fans in attendance.
“There are pros and cons to both,” said the four-time Emmy-winning host about a live finale vs. a pre-taped finale. “I definitely miss the big energy of the live audience and seeing all the family members of our players. That kind of excitement is very unique because it’s more of an event. But what was really cool about revealing the winner in the jungle was the intimacy.

One of the most buzzed-about players on “Survivor 41,” Shan Smith from Washington, D.C., was eliminated from Wednesday’s 10th episode in an epic blindside. The 34-year-old pastor went out with a bang as she praised Bff Ricard Foye (saying she’d vote for him to win the $1 million) and blasted alliance member Deshawn Radden (whom she called a “snake”). Shan is now the second player in as many weeks to go home with a hidden immunity idol in their pocket, following Naseer Muttalif last week.

Evvie Jagoda is happy with her “Survivor” experience, but isn’t exactly pleased with how she went out. In this week’s Ponderosa video, Evvie discusses being voted out of the game and how she still isn’t quite sure how it went down. “I really wanna know what happened,” says Evvie, with only Xander Hastings voting with her in the end. Evvie adds that she’s not a fan of the twist of splitting the merged tribe into two teams and having them go to two separate Tribal Councils. “I hate that twist. I’ve always hated that twist.” Watch the full “Survivor 41” Ponderosa video above.

Episode 8 of “Survivor 41” proved that despite all the idols and advantages that make up the game these days, sometimes the biggest conflicts come from the players themselves. “Look how much drama we got out of a papaya,” says Kevin Jacobsen in a new slugfest, referencing Ricard Foye eating a piece of papaya at camp after already winning a Reward Challenge for food, and getting in trouble for it. Fellow Gold Derby contributor Matt Noble agrees that it was refreshing to see some “classic ‘Survivor’ tribal drama” in this episode as opposed to a flurry of advantages and idols. The jury phase of “Survivor 41” began in Episode 8, with 47-year-old teacher Tiffany Seely being booted by the majority. Tiffany was part of the three-person Yase alliance with Evvie Jagoda and Xander Hastings, both of whom were protected by winning immunity and having an immunity idol, respectively. This made Tiffany the easy target to take out, but according to a new poll released just after last week’s episode, fans don’t think she should have been eliminated.
Shan Smith earned the most votes for who Gold Derby readers thought should have been voted out, at a whopping 43% of the tally. The self-professed mafia pastor struggled to maintain her close relationships with her allies in Episode 8, confronting Ricard Foye about eating a piece of papaya and making Deshawn Radden feel like his voice didn’t matter on multiple occasions. Moments after being eliminated from “Survivor 41,” cameras caught up with Tiffany Seely as she made the trek to her new residence at the jury house, otherwise known as Ponderosa. She immediately started trashing her former players for voting her out instead of the three people who had hidden immunity idols, Xander Hastings, Naseer Muttalif and Shan Smith. “The dumbest, stupidest ‘Survivor’ move ever is to leave all of those people sitting in there with idols,” she declared. “And they take me out. It was another chaotic Tribal Council on “Survivor 41” on November 10, which resulted in Tiffany Seely being eliminated from the game and becoming the first member of the jury. Episode 7 of “Survivor 41” was one for the ages. With seven of the 12 remaining castaways safe from elimination, it was utter chaos figuring out who to send out. After advantages played, new alliances forged and a wildly unpredictable Tribal Council, it was confident law student Sydney Segal who met her demise in a very close 5-4-3 vote. In a new poll posted last week, Gold Derby asked readers to pick who they thought deserved to be eliminated this episode, and the people have spoken.
Sydney earned the most votes for who users thought deserved to be booted, amassing 27% of the vote. Among other castaways eligible to be voted out, Deshawn Radden earned the next highest amount of votes at 9%. The Yase alliance of Evvie Jagoda, Tiffany Seely and Xander Hastings conspired to target Deshawn and placed three votes on him, but they couldn’t convince anyone else to join them.

On “Survivor,” there’s nothing worse than being outnumbered at the merge, and that’s exactly what’s happened to the Yase three, aka Xander Hastings, Evvie Jagoda and Tiffany Seely. When their fourth Yase member, Liana Wallace, ditched them for the Campout alliance, that left the yellow trio with a huge numbers disadvantage on a merged tribe of 12 people. At the end of last week’s hectic tribal council, Sydney Segal was sent packing as she received one more vote than Evvie, but can the Yase three survive yet another week?

The merge episode of “Survivor 41” was one for the record books. For the first time in the show’s two decades on the air, six people won an immunity challenge and were told by Jeff Probst that they were safe, only to have their immunity undone by an hourglass twist that reversed time. Flash-forward to tribal council, where one of those people, Sydney Segal, ended up being voted out. Needless to say, she’s not a fan of the hourglass twist.
“I mean, it’s not even a twist — it’s a lie,” Sydney says in her exit interview with EW. “We’re told one thing and then something else happens. And I think it achieved exactly what it intended to achieve. That challenge was meant for strong players to win. And then that hourglass twist was intended to get a strong player out of the game. Episode 7 of “Survivor 41” ended in the most dramatic Tribal Council of the season to date. After Erika Casupanan smashed the hourglass that resulted in the winners of last week’s challenge becoming vulnerable, it was a mad scramble to determine who to vote out, with multiple advantages played and past alliances betrayed. Sydney Segal was the unfortunate victim of a chaotic Tribal Council, going out in a very close 5-4-3 vote. But did the merged tribe ultimately make the right call?

On last week’s sixth episode of “Survivor 41,” Jeff Probst dropped the bombshell of the merge challenge on the 12 remaining castaways, resulting in half of them believing themselves safe at the next tribal council and half of them facing an individual immunity challenge to determine their fate. The not-quite-merge set the stage for Erika Casupanan, chosen by a majority of her former Luvu tribe mates to go to Exile Island, to possibly “change history” by flipping the script on the merge challenge and switching the immune to vulnerable, and the vulnerable to immune.
But before we see Erika makes her historic decision on the seventh episode, it’s time to assess where every player is at in the game and rank their chances at becoming the 41st sole Survivor. Below we roll out our first power rankings of the season, taking into account strategy, relationships, and of course the notorious “winner’s edit.

At the end of last week’s episode of “Survivor 41,” Jeff Probst offered a never-before-seen twist to the current inhabitant of Exile Island, Erika Casupanan. If she wanted to “go back in time and change history,” she could reverse the results of the merge challenge by smashing a prop hourglass. That would result in the winners of the challenge now being up for elimination and the losers now being safe. Since Erika was eligible to be voted out, viewers assumed she’d have no choice but to use the hammer when the show returned for Episode 7.
In fact, our reader’s poll results were fairly decisive when asked whether Erika should smash the hourglass. Here they are:
91%: Yes — Absolutely, it’s a no-brainer
6%: No — It would ruffle too many feathers
3%: Maybe — I’m not sure what she should do

History was made during the sixth episode of “Survivor 41” when Jeff Probst traveled to Exile Island to meet with its inhabitant, Erika Casupanan, and tempt her with an offer. The host presented the castaway with an hourglass and a hammer and told her that if she wanted to “go back in time and change history” by reversing the results of the merge challenge, all she had to do was smash it. Erika’s decision was not yet revealed to viewers, as this was actually the first part of a two-part episode. But what do You think she should do? Vote in our poll and then defend your choice in the comments section.

And then there were 12. Heading into the sixth episode of “Survivor 41,” Luvu was still strong at six tribe members, compared to four for Yase and two for Ua. But with Jeff Probst throwing out his classic “drop your buffs” line, the castaways were about to become mixed up in the season’s first tribe swap. How did the twist affect the game’s various alliances? And did any of the season’s many, many advantages finally get played?

In last week’s fourth episode of “Survivor 41,” Shan made a power play in the Ua tribe when she decided to trick Jd into leaving his extra vote at camp in an act of trust, only to turn around and vote him out so that she could claim the advantage for herself. With that vote, Ua was down to only three members at camp, while Yase held steady with four and Luvu continued to rule the island with all six members still in the game. What are the repercussions of Shan’s big move and will anyone play one of the many advantages floating around in the game?

Heading into the fourth episode of “Survivor 41,” Luvu was still ruling the island six players strong, compared to Ua and Yase who were both even at four apiece having each been to tribal council twice already. But will an idea at Luvu to throw the immunity challenge change things up on Wednesday’s episode and send them to visit Jeff Probst at tribal council for the first time? And did anyone use their shot in the dark this week?

There have only been three episodes of “Survivor 41” so far and three people have extra votes, one has a third of a Hidden Immunity Idol and another just got voted out with two advantages in their pocket. “I’m kind of over the advantages already,” admits Marcus James Dixon in this week’s Gold Derby “Survivor” slugfest with colleagues Kevin Jacobsen and Matt Noble. “It’s very hard to keep track of who has what.” Jacobsen concurs, adding, “I don’t think we need an advantage situation summit every single week.” Watch the in-depth chat on Season 41, Episode 3, titled “My Million Dollar Mistake,” in our video recap above.
The third episode featured Brad Reese finding two Beware Advantages, though each with different instructions. One was the advantage found by Xander Hastings at the Yase camp, which involves saying a unique phrase at the Immunity Challenge to activate a shared three-way Hidden Immunity Idol.

Heading into the third episode of “Survivor 41,” Yase was feeling defeated after voting out David Voce, which brought them down to only four tribe members (they ousted Eric Abraham in the premiere). To compare, Luvu was still strong at six people and Ua had five castaways as they blindsided Sara Wilson in the first episode. So which tribe lost the immunity challenge during Wednesday’s episode and had to visit with Jeff Probst at tribal council? And did anyone use their shot in the dark this week?

“Survivor” returned last week with an epic, two-hour premiere in which host Jeff Probst welcomed 18 all-new guys players to Fiji. After the back-to-back eliminations of Yase’s Eric Abraham and Ua’s Sara Wilson, the remaining 16 castaways were ready for another round of outwitting, outplaying and outlasting. Did the Luvu tribe win immunity yet again, keeping their numbers strong at six? Or did Ua or Yase pull out their first immunity victory, thereby preventing their team from losing another player?

Last week on “Survivor 41,” making fire seemed to be the bane of Yase’s existence. But now it’s Luvu that’s having trouble igniting a flame. In CBS’s video trailer for the September 29 episode, Deshawn Radden wastes hours hitting his flint with his machete to try to start a fire. After he fails miserably, his tribemate Naseer Muttalif calmly walks over and succeeds in creating a flame “within a minute.” Watch the “Survivor 41” preview above.

It’s been exactly 496 days since the last episode of “Survivor” aired on CBS … but who’s counting? Because of Covid-19, the granddaddy of all reality TV shows was not able to travel abroad to film in Fiji for over a year, but production finally commenced in April with Jeff Probst once again at the helm. For this 41st season, the Emmy-winning host has promised a much more dangerous and fast-paced game, with the 18 all-new castaways being initially separated into three tribes. So who was voted out at tribal council during the two-hour premiere?

While unveiling the “Survivor 41” cast announcement on Monday, host Jeff Probst proclaims, “I cannot remember a time when I’ve been this excited to launch a new season of ‘Survivor.'” The 41st season of CBS’s long-running reality TV show was delayed more than a year due to Covid-19, but it will finally hit the airwaves on Wednesday, September 22. “‘Survivor 41’ features a really likable group of savvy ‘Survivor’ players and they are in for the most intense, most difficult and most dangerous season we’ve ever done,” says the four-time Emmy-winning host. “We know we have the most loyal fans of any show on television, and we are pumped to bring them a new, exciting season of ‘Survivor!'”
