When Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the film met with mediocre reviews. Knowing Indy’s latest odyssey would be compared to its predecessors, Mangold spoke with Variety about the film’s reception, saying, “When you’re in franchise land, it’s very hard for critical thinkers…to overlook what I’m sure their editors want, which is this business prism of how does it rate to the other ones?…I always thought if I were second or third...

While Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny marks Harrison Ford’s final performance as Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr., the franchise may continue with another character leading future expeditions into the unknown. I’m talking about Indy’s goddaughter, Helena Shaw. Phoebe Waller-Bridge brings the character to life in the James Mangold-directed sequel. From what I’ve heard, Helena is a highlight of the new film, and the franchise’s future could rest in her capable hands. In a recent interview with Variety, producer Kathleen Kennedy says it’s “entirely possible” for Waller-Bridge to continue the brand.
Speaking with Variety about the new film, its mixed reception, and the franchise’s future, Mangold becomes visibly excited when the outlet broaches the topic of Helena Shaw. Mangold says he and the Butterworths (Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth) wrote the character specifically for Waller-Bridge, including elements of what made...

Indiana Jones may be in his twilight years, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t solve a few more ancient puzzles. Disney has released a new clip for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in which the famed hero uses the power of water displacement to find his way out of a pickle.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month, but the early reception was mixed. Some had a lot of fun with the movie and had plenty of praise for Harrison Ford, but others felt it was bogged down in nostalgia. Either way, I can’t wait to watch the film for myself and go on one final adventure with my favourite hero.

Harrison Ford’s final performance as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny could be looking at an underwhelming box office when the film opens exclusively in theaters on June 30. Analysts predict a $60 million to $70 million take for the fifth and final Indiana Jones film over a five-day holiday opening. While $60M would be a reason to celebrate for most movies, the Indiana Jones franchise carries a legacy that could warrant more of a return for Ford’s farewell performance as the intrepid archaeologist.
Dial of Destiny‘s 3-day opening is down from the $100.1M opening for 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, often hailed as the worst film in the franchise. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18th, and the first clip from the highly-anticipated sequel has arrived. The original Indiana Jones movies continue to be some of my favourites, so I’ve got high hopes for Dial of Destiny, particularly as it will be the last time we see Harrison Ford in the role. “I’ve been able to deliver amazing films developed by Steven [Spielberg] and George [Lucas] over a 40-year period, and to end it not with a whimper, but a bang, has been my greatest ambition for this excursion,” Harrison Ford said. “This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character. It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Steven Spielberg directing an Indiana Jones movie, but the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny helmed by James Mangold has gotten the stamp of approval from the man himself.
While speaking at the Time 100 Summit (via Variety), Steven Spielberg revealed that he’s already watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and loved it. “I just had that experience two nights ago,” Spielberg said. “Bob Iger had a screening for a lot of the Disney executives, and I came to the screening along with the director James Mangold. Everybody loved the movie. It’s really, really a good ‘Indiana Jones’ film. I’m really proud of what Jim has done with it.” Spielberg added, “When the lights came up I just turned to the group and said, ‘Damn! I thought I was the only one who knew how to make one of these.

For most of his existence as a cinematic icon, Steven Spielberg was the only one who ever directed an "Indiana Jones" movie, dating back to the all-time blockbuster classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark." And, as far as the movies go, it's mostly only been Harrison Ford who has played him. But the first part of that equation is set to change with this summer's "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," as James Mangold is directing this time around. Luckily, he's received Spielberg's seal of approval.
Speaking as part of the Time100 Summit recently, the master filmmaker addressed the upcoming fifth entry in the long-running franchise. Spielberg was asked about watching an "Indiana Jones" film that he didn't direct, and he offered some kind words for Mangold's film, saying the following:

Lucasfilm unveiled a brand new trailer for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” during the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase at the Star Wars Celebration convention in London on Friday.
Described as the final film in the franchise, “Indiana Jones 5” finds Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as the legendary hero archaeologist grapples with a new era (1969) and new characters (Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays his goddaughter Helena Shaw). The globe-trotting trek will take Indy to Morocco and Sicily. Glasgow serves as the location for a 1969 moon landing parade.
This new trailer plays on the notion that Indy is ready to retire, but he’s pulled back into one last adventure, this time against an old foe. Yes indeed, Nazis are the bad guys once more, but the device at the center of the story — the Dial of Destiny — appears to potentially allow Mads Mikkelsen’s baddie to go back in time...

It may have been Star Wars Celebration 2023, but Lucasfilm couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drop the final trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The film, which was just announced as making its premiere at Cannes, is just a few months away, and judging from the reaction in the room, fan anticipation for this one is at a fever pitch. Attendees got to watch the five minutes of the movie (a car chase in Morocco), which was only for them, but luckily fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see the full thing.
As for the trailer itself, it’s cool but also a touch unusual for an Indiana Jones movie, with it scored by The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.” Then again, this reflects the era the movie is set in nicely (it’s set in 1969). The trailer does a good...

The man with the hat is back ... for one last ride. Harrison Ford is returning to the role of Indiana Jones for a final time with "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." This marks the first "Indy" movie not helmed by Steven Spielberg — instead, the filmmaker handed over duties to James Mangold, a good choice all things considered. This latest adventure drops Indy into the 1960s and sets him on a whole new journey that may or may not involve time travel. At the very least, its going to involve a de-aged Ford, who plays his younger Indy self in flashbacks.
The new "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" trailer dropped during Star Wars Celebration, and you can watch it below.

I was never a "Star Wars" kid growing up. No, instead, the Lucasfilm movies I most gravitated towards were the "Indiana Jones" movies.

Fifteen years after we last saw Indy, Harrison Ford puts the fedora on for one last outing as the part-time professor archeologist in James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It was recently announced that the Lucasfilm adventure series would be making a film festival debut as the Cannes Film Festival has invited Disney to have its premiere screening at the famous film event. Disney has now announced that the world premiere screening will take place on Thursday, May 18. The film will be following such movies as Top Gun: Maverick as the Tom Cruise summer vehicle similarly made its screen debut at Cannes last year.
