On April 11, CBS saved S.W.A.T. from cancellation, for the second time no less.
This reprieve came after three characters had already been written out this season. And additional exits may be coming, as it was hinted that Commander Hicks might be departing to take care of his ailing lover on S.W.A.T. Season 7 Episode 9.
So, who exactly will be in the 20 Squad returning for S.W.A.T. Season 8? Hondo, Powell, the new guy who replaced Street, and who else?
Ah, well, that's a problem for the series' showrunner and writers this summer. At least salaries for lesser-known actors should be less of a bite on the budget.
One side effect of this surprise rescue of S.W.A.T. is that Blue Bloods fans want their show, now in its 14th and supposedly final season, saved as well.
First off, let's remember it's a bad time to be a scripted network series. Just ask fans of Station 19, The Good Doctor,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for S.W.A.T. Season 7 Episode 8 “Family Man.”] It looks like Deacon (Jay Harrington) has made his mind up about his future with S.W.A.T. after the Luca’s (Kenny Johnson) shooting and subsequent retirement left him questioning things. And while he had been waiting to talk to anyone except for Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit), he and Hondo (Shemar Moore) do have the conversation they probably should have had sooner in the latest episode. It’s all because Deacon’s wife Annie (Bre Blair) spilled to Hondo’s wife Nichelle (Rochelle Aytes) about the plans. Just as Hondo’s lamenting the loss of the “core” group—while looking at a photo from back when Chris was still on the team—Nichelle reveals that it really could be “the end of an era” if Deacon does retire, too. At first, Hondo doesn’t think it’s ...

TV producer Dan Schneider has issued a new response to an Investigation Discovery docuseries that uncovers the toxic and dangerous culture on the sets of his Nickelodeon children’s shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The first two installments that dropped Sunday were meant to reveal “an insidious environment rife with allegations of abuse, sexism, racism, and inappropriate dynamics with its underage stars and crew,” according to ID.
The next two episodes air tonight.
“Dan expected and asked a lot from his teams,” according to a statement obtained by Deadline. “They worked long hours and consistently made successful shows. In the challenges of production, Dan could get frustrated at times, and he understands why some employees found that intimidating or stressful. In a career spanning 30+ years, Dan worked with thousands of people, many of whom still tell him how much they enjoyed and appreciated working on his shows.

Embattled kids TV producer Dan Schneider has denied toxic workplace claims, which include “sexualizing” child actors, on Nickelodeon series he created and ran.
“Everything that happened on the shows Dan ran was carefully scrutinized by dozens of involved adults, and approved by the network,” a spokesperson for the prolific kids TV producer of hits like The Amanda Show and All That said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “Had there been any scenes or outfits that were inappropriate in any way, they would have been flagged and blocked by this multilayered scrutiny.”
The spokesperson for Schneider said the kids TV producer’s scripts secured network approvals in both New York City and Los Angeles.
“Remember, all stories, dialogue, costumes, and makeup were fully approved by network executives on two coasts. A standards and practices group read and ultimately approved every script, and programming executives reviewed and approved all episodes,...

They say “In space no one can hear you scream.” Buuuuuuuut we’ve seen through eight Alien films that if you’re in a spaceship plenty of people can hear you scream. The Xenomorphs have no problem causing their victims a lot of pain. Even though we’ve seen them in a lot of films, fans will mostly agree that after Aliens, the franchise was never the same. But did you know that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp almost made an Aliens sequel?
In 2015, filmmaker Blomkamp announced he had been working on a new Alien project. This was even a surprise to Fox, which owned the series. Fans seemed excited by the prospect of the director taking on the project after the imaginative sci-fi films he had been releasing. Ultimately, after some starts and stops, the film would fall apart. Let’s find out exactly why here on What Happened To This Unmade Movie?...

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" told a complete and epic story across three seasons and 61 episodes, from 2005 to 2008. Now, it's been confirmed the Netflix-helmed live-action remake of "Avatar" will get to carry this story to the finish line once more.
The 2012-2014 sequel series "The Legend of Korra" showed what happened decades later, but there are other stories following the original Team Avatar after the series' wrap-up. And no, I don't mean the upcoming animated "Avatar" movie, releasing in 2025, that will follow these heroic kids as adults.
Since 2012, Dark Horse Comics has been publishing licensed "The Last Airbender" graphic novels, varying in length from trilogies to 80-page one-shots. The comics were first written by cartoonist Gene Luen Yang and drawn in the style of the animated series by artist duo Gurihiru (the same comic-creating team that went on to make "Superman Smashes The Klan"). "Star Trek" has never been the most popular show on television and the films, while generally successful, have only cracked the yearly box office top 10 five times (out of 13 total releases), but the major characters and tropes of the long-running franchise are instantly identifiable to most people around the world. Just about everyone knows Kirk and Spock, and they've probably heard of at least Bones, Sulu, and Uhura. They know what the Enterprise and Klingons are, and have surely heard the phrase "Beam me up, Scotty" a multitude of times. If someone couldn't tell you what a phaser is, you'd probably consider them sheltered.
Beyond these elements, however, people might be a tad hazy on the particulars. Romulans? Maybe. The highly intoxicating properties of Romulan ale? Not so much. The Kobayashi Maru? That's the hot dog eating dude, right?

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the S.W.A.T. Season 7 premiere, “The Promise.”] S.W.A.T. may want us to think that one of its own just died at the end of its final season premiere, but we know better. That doesn’t mean we’re not worried, though! “The Promise” sees Hondo (Shemar Moore), Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit), and Powell (Anna Enger Ritch) head down to Mexico City to escort a fugitive who escaped Hondo’s custody 10 years earlier back to the States. But while doing so, that fugitive escapes, and by the time they track him down, he and his crew are selling some military-grade stolen weapons, including a thermobaric vacuum bomb that could kill thousands. The fugitive is killed in the ensuing gunfight, but the bomb is missing from the weapons they recover. As the episode ends, Powell’s getting ...

Hyped as an interactive sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens: Colonial Marines was a disappointment in 2013. We look back at how its plot could have changed the Alien franchise…
In 2011, it all looked so promising. As narrated by Gearbox Software studio boss Randy Pitchford, a demo of Aliens: Colonial Marines, unveiled at that year’s E3, hinted at the kind of game fans of the Alien franchise had been eagerly awaiting for years. It was a first-person shooter made by a respected studio – Gearbox had just had a hit with Borderlands – and was billed as a direct sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 film, Aliens. It even had a couple of familiar actors returning to provide their voices.
The demo gave a tantalising glimpse of what looked like a thoroughly engrossing narrative blaster. It took the player back to Lv-426, the setting of Alien and Aliens, and as one of several Colonial Marines,...

Both "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" ended poorly for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. "Khan" did see the defeat of a vengeful villain and the reunion between Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) and his son David (Merritt Butrick), but it required the sacrifice of Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and the severe buffetting of the Enterprise itself. "Search" ended with the resurrection of Spock, but required the theft and the destruction of the Enterprise, as well as the death of David at the hands of vengeful Klingons. Spock was back, but Kirk was now a wanted criminal with no vessel to command.
It's no wonder, then, that the makers of "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" decided to affect a much lighter tone. "Voyage" saw the Enterprise crew, on board a clunky old Klingon vessel, traveling back in time to...

Who’s ready for one final round of cleverly verbose cold opens, behind-the-barn brawls, Canada gooses taking Canada deuces, spontaneous Industrial breakdancing, and Puppers poured right from the tap? As with Season 2, Season 3 was also split into two parts with the first eight episodes arriving on streamer on Aug. 17. The six episode Part 5 is slated to premiere in Spring 2024.
Starring Mike Epps, the series follows Bennie Upshaw (Epps), “the head of a Black working class family in Indianapolis, is a charming, well-intentioned mechanic and lifelong mess just trying his best to step up and care for his family — wife Regina (Kim Fields), their two young daughters and firstborn son (Jermelle Simon), the teenage son (Diamond Lyons) he fathered with another woman (Gabrielle Dennis) — and tolerate his sardonic sister-in-law (Wanda Sykes), all without a blueprint for success. Exclusive: Netflix has picked up another installment of its popular multi-camera comedy series The Upshaws. The blue-collar sitcom created by Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes has been renewed for a 10-episode fourth season.
After the 10-episode first season, Seasons 2 and 3 of The Upshaws have been released in two parts — of eight and six episodes each, respectively — so the renewal is for Part 6 of the series, as officially referred to by Netflix.
Production on the 10-episode new season, which will be released in one batch, will begin next year. The six-episode Part 5 of The Upshaws (second half of Season 3), is slated to premiere in spring 2024.
Somewhat flying under the radar, The Upshaws has been a sturdy performer for Netflix in a genre — multi-camera sitcom — that has been challenging for streamers. With the renewal, The Upshaws is tying The Ranch as the second-longest-running original multi-camera comedy on Netflix in number of seasons,...

Spock (Leonard Nimoy) was perhaps the most striking and memorable character from "Star Trek," back when it first started to take off in syndication in the early 1970s. On a ship full of humans, Spock was half-human and half-Vulcan. He had angled eyebrows and pointed, Mephistophelean ears. It's also noted throughout the season that Spock has green blood (although he never bleeds green on camera), and McCoy (DeForest Kelley) once noted that Spock's heart "is where his liver should be." Spock is also stronger than a human, very long-lived (Vulcans can live to age 250), and has a much more sophisticated brain than a human's; Vulcans are intimidatingly intelligent.
The fact that Spock has green blood, however, wasn't merely a whim of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry. It seems that Roddenberry once visited the famed Mütter Museum, a curious medical archive located inside the College of Physicians in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The...

Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.
Fans of the show know where some of the original film's cast members ended up, but what about the rest? Shot in Chicago, "Child's Play" made use of several local stage talents, as well as a few veteran actors and familiar faces. Can you...

"Alien" is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. It's also one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. Director Ridley Scott provided an incredible formula that ignited an entire franchise. When James Cameron jumped on board with "Aliens," he injected the sequel with his action sensibilities and took the film series to the next level. "Alien 3" was lambasted, mostly for killing Newt and Hicks off-screen, but it's not David Fincher's fault the studio pushed him around, and the workprint cut of the movie is much better. "Alien Resurrection" is just awful. Flash forward, and "Prometheus" disappointed some longtime fans but has some passionate defenders, and "Alien: Covenant" tried to meet somewhere in the middle, but didn't quite stick the landing.
However, all of the "Alien" movies, in some capacity, feature the familiar formula that was established in "Alien." Our main characters end up trapped somewhere,...

Netflix has ordered a dramedy series inspired by the memoir “The Pink Marine” written by Greg Cope White, Variety has learned.
Currently titled “The Corps,” Netflix has given the show a 10 episode order. The official logline states, “Set in 1990, ‘The Corps’ is about Cameron, a bullied, gay high school student who joins the Marine Corps with his straight best friend, Ray — a dangerous move when being gay in the military meant jail time or worse. As these two friends plunge into Marine Corps boot camp, where the landmines are both literal and metaphorical, they join a platoon of young men on a harrowing journey of transformation.”

What more can be said about the great Michael Biehn? The man has been a part of most film fans’ lives for decades now and he seems to have no stopping in mind with a few films coming up soon. With one of these resumes that would make any actor jealous, there are a lot more Michael Biehn movies that are worth watching besides The Terminator and Aliens. He has shared screentime with everyone from Sigourney Weaver to Arnold Schwarzenegger to Kurt Russell to, well, you get the idea. Here are five of our favorite Michael Biehn films:
The Terminator (1984)
An absolute classic with unforgettable performances, this film by a fairly new to the scene James Cameron was a big gamble to take on, but for all involved it was a great career launcher. While Biehn wasn’t entirely new to the scene (he had starred in the cult classic...

When screenwriter and filmmaker Dan O'Bannon wrote the original "Alien," he couldn't have imagined that his own personal experience dealing with Crohn's disease -- which helped inspire the chest-burster Xenomorph -- would go on to spawn six of the most thought-provoking sci-fi horror movies in cinema history. O'Bannon's own fears eventually transferred over to the character of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), who became terrified of suffering the same horrible fate as Kane (John Hurt) aboard the Nostromo.
Over the course of Ridley Scott's "Alien," James Cameron's "Aliens," and David Fincher's "Alien 3," Ripley's worst fear was finally realized when she dove into a fiery pit, just as a chest-burster struggled to get free from her grasp. Returning as a clone in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Alien: Resurrection," Ripley's humanity was then stripped away in favor of a disconnected superhero version of the character that took away everything...

New Delhi, April 24 (Ians) Open source solution provider Red Hat will lay off nearly 4 per cent of its global workforce, or about 760 employees, the media reported on Monday.
The North Carolina-based software major has about 19,000 employees across the world.
According to The Herald Sun, Red Hat CEO Matt Hicks called the job cuts “a decision our leadership team was truly hoping we could avoid”.
“This decision is now appropriate to ensure Red Hat’s ability to compete in a new environment,” he was quoted as saying.
Ibm acquired Red Hat in 2019 for nearly $34 billion in one of the largest software acquisitions in history.
In an email to employees, Hicks said the cuts “will focus on general and administrative” positions, and not affect positions “directing selling to customers or building out products”.

Many people know that royal family members follow unwritten fashion rules. Interestingly, one wardrobe rule requires that royals pack a black outfit when traveling. The reason is somber.

According to Yahoo, royals pack a black outfit whenever they travel abroad. So in case of an unexpected death in their host nation, the royal is prepared to attend a last-minute funeral.
Additionally, if someone in the royal family dies while a member is out of the country, they can wear a black outfit upon their return to the United Kingdom.
Unexpected deaths rarely occur while royals are traveling, but it has happened. It’s also why royals now understand the importance of packing a black ensemble.

According to our combined predictions as of this writing, the five who are expected to receive Best Actress in a Musical nominations at this year’s Tony Awards are Victoria Clark (“Kimberly Akimbo”), Annaleigh Ashford (“Sweeney Todd”), Micaela Diamond (“Parade”), Sara Bareilles (“Into the Woods”), and Patina Miller (“Into the Woods”). However, there is a contender I think deserves to be in the conversation much more, and that would be Adrianna Hicks (“Some Like It Hot”).

Mo’Nique Hicks is taking Paramount to court over alleged unpaid royalties for The Parkers.
In a complaint filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the comedian alleges that an audit of the show concluded that the network “inequitably structured the Series’ finances to artificially depress its profitability” so it can “retain tens of millions that would otherwise be contractually due and owed.” She also claims that Paramount likely deprived the show’s writers and creators of their rights to profit participation.
The Parkers, a spinoff series of hit ‘90s sitcom Moesha that aired for six seasons, continues to run on various networks and is carried by Netflix. It was produced by Big Ticket Productions, which is owned by CBS Studios.
Hicks Media operates as the loan-out entity for Mo’Nique and is entitled to contingent compensation of 2.5 percent of the series’ gross adjusted receipts. CBS accounts for profit participation to Hicks Media.

“Our characters are wrestling with very contemporary situations,” explains Scott Wittman of the musical “Some Like it Hot.” He and Marc Shaiman are the Tony-winning songwriting duo behind the score. The pair was adamant that their tunes be used to expand and reinvent the characters for this stage adaptation, rather than simply copy what viewers would expect from the classic movie. In her latest comedy special entitled “My Name is Mo’Nique,” which premiered on Netflix on April 4, Mo’Nique tearfully recounts a confession she made to her husband Sidney Hicks. In the special, she tells the story of admitting to Hicks for the first time that she wanted “to be with another woman sexually.”

Dhani grew up with tons of great music. Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne were always in the recording studio at Friar Park. At eight, Dhani watched his father’s performance at 1987’s Prince’s Trust Concert. When he was 12, he performed with George during a show on his 1991 Japanese tour. However, he didn’t initially want to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Even the weekend of Hollywood’s biggest party couldn’t stop film industry dealmakers from fighting over the latest horror project. “I Am Not Alone,” a new horror film that’s set to star Jessica Chastain, became the subject of a heated bidding war before reportedly landing at Netflix.
The project, which will be directed by “Lovecraft Country” creator Misha Green, is based on a short story by fiction writer Chris Hicks. The mysterious story centers around a mother who begins to hallucinate deadly creatures when she suffers from migraines.
It marks the first major Hollywood project for the writer, who is best known for writing viral horror stories on the NoSleep subreddit. (And it’s the latest example of horror artists finding alternative paths to break into the industry). After spending years building up a following in the online horror fiction community, he’s now branching out into feature...

Sometimes even the most popular movies can have a secret or two. Case in point, James Cameron’s 1986 sci-fi classic Aliens originally featured a scene that adds a whole new dimension to Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. Even with where the franchise went after, Aliens remains one of the most revered sequels ever made. And Cameron’s deleted scene only enhances its impact.
How James Cameron raised the bar with 1986’s ‘Aliens’
Ridley Scott’s 1979 hit Alien essentially plays like a haunted house movie in space. The xenomorph lurks in the shadows and strikes without warning, like a slasher. But Cameron had a very different approach. Rather than duplicate that scenario, his sequel has a more militaristic story in mind, turning the franchise into a sci-fi war film instead.
Famously, Cameron’s pitch for the film — which he made soon after The Terminator hit it big — also involved a lot more xenomorphs this time around.
