Few TV shows make it to Season 43. For every “60 Minutes” (54 seasons) and “Saturday Night Live” (47 seasons), there are hundreds, if not thousands, of television programs that are canceled or ended before they even make it to double digits. But “Survivor” just keeps going. Now the granddaddy of all reality TV shows is gearing up for its 43rd season (and 22nd year), due out in Fall 2022, with Jeff Probst back as host and executive producer. The most recent season, “Survivor 42,” was so captivating, it proves why the series deserves to reclaim its time in the Emmy spotlight.

We’re only a few weeks out from the “Survivor 42” finale where Maryanne Oketch clinched the 1 million prize arguably because of her Final Tribal Council revelation that she had kept the only secret in the game truly a secret: her unused hidden immunity idol. Jaws dropped on the jury and the players that may have otherwise been inclined to vote for Mike Turner to win instead chose Maryanne as the “sole Survivor.” Now, as we forward look to “Survivor 43” this fall, we want to know what you think about the advantages, twists and challenges currently at play in “Survivor” and which, if any, should stick around for the upcoming season.

Last week’s shocking elimination of Omar Zaheer on “Survivor 42” will reverberate through the tribe and have major implications on the rest of the game as we look ahead to Wednesday’s season finale. Mike Turner, Maryanne Oketch, Lindsay Dolashewich, Romeo Escobar and Jonathan Young each stand a one in five chance of taking home this season’s 1 million cash prize, but to get there they’ll have to maneuver through two more immunity challenges and tribal councils and hope that the jury respects their game enough to be deserving of the win.

“Maryanne got me, she got me good,” sighed Omar Zaheer after being shockingly eliminated during the penultimate episode of “Survivor 42.” The 31-year-old exotic animal veterinarian would have been the first castaway of Muslim faith to ever win CBS’s reality TV show, but his plans were foiled when Maryanne Oketch, Romeo Escobar, Mike Turner and Jonathan Young turned the tables on Omar and Lindsay Dolashewich by voting him out in sixth place. Read on for Omar’s “Survivor 42” exit interview from the end of Episode 12.

Moments after Drea Wheeler exited the game laughing with all of her former competitors, Jeff Probst took a moment to praise the remaining Top 6 players. “I gotta say, just as a viewer, I can’t think of a season where I’ve ever seen this much fierce gameplay and camaraderie,” the host said. “This is the ideal way in my mind for ‘Survivor’ to be played. “Survivor 42” saw the exit of one of its biggest power players last week when Hai Giang was blindsided by his former allies. The 28-year-old data scientist had been in the majority alliance post-merge, but (former) ally Omar Zaheer orchestrated his demise by telling a lie to Hai’s closest confidant, Mike Turner, which started the ball rolling. While Jonathan Young was the more obvious target due to his physical strength, Omar got his way and Hai was voted out of the game by a decisive 6-2 vote, and fans mostly agree with the move.

‘Survivor 42’ Top 7 power rankings: Drea Wheeler and Omar Zaheer are best positioned to win the game
Before his epic blindside, Hai Giang was looking very strong in the race to win “Survivor 42.” Now that he’s out, control of the game is truly up for grabs and (mostly) any of the remaining seven castaways have a path to the win. Drea Wheeler could advantage her way to the end or Jonathan Young could win every immunity challenge through to the final three. Maybe the personal connections Omar Zaheer and Mike Turner have made with everyone will actually pay off. Or just maybe Romeo Escobar, Maryanne Oketch and Lindsay Dolashewich can pull off some last minute resume-building tricks to earn points with the jury.

Despite playing one of the stronger strategic games of the season, Hai Giang was blindsided at the end of the May 4 episode of “Survivor 42.” The 28-year-old data scientist had been a core member of the majority alliance, helping to make crucial decisions on who to vote out, but one of those past decisions proved fatal for his game, as Omar Zaheer turned Hai’s closest ally, Mike Turner, against him. Do you think Hai deserved to be voted out at this point in the game? Vote in our poll below, which includes everyone except for immunity winner Lindsay Dolashewich.
Hai was riding high after last week’s episode, in which he persuaded Mike to betray Rocksroy Bailey, who they voted out unanimously. Mike clearly felt guilty about his decision, stating at the beginning of this week’s episode that he felt like he was playing Hai’s game more than his own.

Following the May 4 episode of “Survivor 42,” only seven castaways still have a shot of joining the show’s iconic winners list. Among them is Omar Zaheer, who’s angling to become the first castaway of Muslim faith ever to win “Survivor” after two decades and 41 seasons. As of this writing, the 31-year-old Ontario exotic animal veterinarian is tied for the #1 spot (with Maryanne Oketch) in Gold Derby’s “Survivor 42” predictions, which are determined by our readers.

“Survivor 42” viewers are split on the poll results of last week’s highly debated episode. The hour ended with two Tribal Councils, one of them booting Rocksroy Bailey in a blindside and the other taking out Tori Meehan nearly by process of elimination. While fans believed that Rocksroy deserved to be voted out, they were significantly less enthused with Tori’s ouster, believing another castaway should have been sent to the jury instead.

‘Survivor 42’ deleted scene: Jonathan Young reveals he ‘almost passed out’ from lack of food [Watch]
In this week’s “Survivor 42” deleted scene, Jonathan Young reveals he “almost passed out” on the island from a lack of food (watch above). Remember, this year the castaways are not provided with free rice by CBS — instead, they have to earn their sustenance through rewards or other means. The previously unseen moment comes on Day 17 after Jonathan’s group wins a food reward of beef and veggie kebobs. “Food has helped me think way more clear, play the game way harder and enjoy life,” Jonathan says in a confessional. “Because I gotta tell you, for 16 days I was not feeling great. I was getting to the point where I had to slow down from standing up. I almost passed out. But now that I have food, I feel so much better.”

While the first Tribal Council in Episode 9 of “Survivor 42” was decidedly less heightened than the second, it still produced a surprising outcome. After the remaining 10 castaways were divided randomly into two groups of five, with both going to separate Tribal Councils, we saw players on the blue team making a big move. Chanelle Howell saw her luck run out at the end of Episode 8 of “Survivor 42,” getting the boot from her tribe and becoming the first member of the jury. The 28-year-old executive recruiter had been floundering since her first Tribal Council in the pre-merge, which caused her former allies to drift away from her, and she was never able to find herself in the majority again. She was ultimately voted out by seven of her tribemates, and fans ultimately agree that she was the right person to go.
In our recent poll, where we asked you to pick which player you think deserved to be voted out, Chanelle earned 46 of the vote. Not everyone agreed, however, with Romeo Escobar collecting a strong 32. Like Chanelle, Romeo is an outsider who has not found his footing since the merge, despite his previous connections. Not everyone agreed, however, with Romeo Escobar collecting a strong 32. Like Chanelle, Romeo is an outsider who has not found his footing since the merge, despite his previous connections. Ahead of the ninth episode of “Survivor 42,” which will air Wednesday, April 27, CBS has released a sneak peek video showing the formation of a brand new all-guys alliance. Rocksroy Bailey comes to Jonathan Young and Mike Turner with a plan for all of the remaining men to “stick together,” and Jonathan admits he’s “very interested” in the idea. “Everybody’s always after the big guy in ‘Survivor,'” Thor Jonathan proclaims in a private confessional. Above, watch the “Survivor 42” preview for Episode 9.

Rocksroy’s plan begins percolating when Hai Giang tells the group of guys that he wants to eliminate Romeo Escobar next since Romeo wrote Hai’s name down at tribal council. “Yes, Romeo is an easy gone, but I’m nervous about me,” Rocksroy tells the camera. “I’ve been busting my ass out here, and it’s not just me.

Tori Meehan makes ‘Survivor’ history by winning first 2 individual immunity challenges of the season
Over the course of the first 21 years and 41 seasons of “Survivor,” only one woman had won the first two individual immunity challenges of her season: Laura Morett in 2009’s “Survivor: Samoa.” Now, her long-standing record has been tied by Tori Meehan, who just claimed back-to-back victories in the first two individual immunity challenges of “Survivor 42.” Talk about girl power!
One caveat in mentioning this record is that Laura’s initial immunity win was actually awarded to the best performing male (John Fincher) and female (Laura) of that specific challenge. Tori didn’t have to share either of her two immunity necklaces, which puts her truly in a league of her own when it comes to making “Survivor” history.

The post-merge phase of “Survivor 42” began this week, with Chanelle Howell officially becoming the first member of the jury. Mike Turner, who had started the game with Chanelle as members of the Vati tribe, was the main proponent in wanting her out, considering she cast a stray vote against him in the pre-merge. This, combined with her lack of integration into the newly formed majority alliance caused her to be squeezed out of the game in episode 8. But do you think Chanelle deserved to be voted out this week? Vote in our poll below. (Note: Tori Meehan is not included as an option since she won immunity again.)
After the chaotic third episode of the season, where her choice to risk her vote at the summit caused her to lose it and thus, lead to the destruction of the majority alliance, Chanelle couldn’t really find her footing in the game.

And then there were 11. After last week’s eventual merge, the castaways still in the running to win “Survivor 42” were: Rocksroy Bailey, Tori Meehan, Romeo Escobar, Drea Wheeler, Jonathan Young, Maryanne Oketch, Omar Zaheer, Lindsay Dolashewich, Chanelle Howell, Hai Giang and Mike Turner. A leading alliance of eight people took control in last week’s episode, but with so many idols and advantages in play, there was no telling who might end up having their torch snuffed by Jeff Probst at the end of the hour. So how’d it all play out?

The “Survivor 42” merge has ushered in an exciting new phase of the game. Like the previous season, the controversial hourglass twist was implemented, allowing one player to flip the results of the previous reward challenge and make the winning team vulnerable. Like Erika Casupanan last year, Rocksroy Bailey elected to turn back time and made himself safe at the first merge vote, along with Chanelle Howell, Drea Wheeler, Mike Turner, Omar Zaheer and Romeo Escobar. This limited the pool of potential eliminations, with Lydia Meredith meeting her untimely demise. But do you think she was the right person to be the merge boot? Vote in our poll below.

Heading into the highly anticipated “merge” episode of “Survivor 42”, the Ika, Taku and Vati tribes were all even at four members apiece. However, even though host Jeff Probst told them to “drop your buffs,” he then added it’s “not exactly” a merge. “In fact, you are not merged. You will not be officially merged until after the next tribal council. Like everything else in this game, you are going to earn your way into the merge,” he told the 12 remaining players. Daniel Strunk became the sixth person eliminated from “Survivor 42” last week, a decision by the Vati tribe with which many fans agree. The young law clerk suffered what could have been a game-ending shoulder injury in the very first episode of the season, but he stuck it out through five episodes before his tribe couldn’t carry him any longer. His strategic game did not help matters, having made a spectacle at Vati’s first Tribal Council in Episode 3, causing his tribemates to lose trust in him. Ultimately, “Survivor” fans approved of Daniel’s ouster.
In last week’s poll, where we asked you to pick who deserved to go home from the Vati tribe, Daniel earned a whopping 71 of the vote. This is far more decisive than any poll this season thus far. Chanelle Howell, who was also offered as a potential boot in Episode 5, amassed most of the other votes,...

Daniel Strunk finally met his demise at the end of the fifth episode of “Survivor 42.” After dislocating his shoulder in the very first challenge of the season, the 30-year-old law clerk struggled through the physical portions of the game, and his strategy wasn’t much better. The Vati tribe’s first Tribal Council in Episode 3 was a disastrous one for Daniel and his game never really recovered. But do you think Daniel really deserved to be booted this week? Remember back in 2020’s “Survivor: Winners at War” when Sandra Diaz-Twine repeatedly sat out challenges? It prompted many fans to wonder about the long-standing rule regarding sitting out back-to-back comps. At the time, former winner Sarah Lacina explained, “The rule is you can’t sit out the reward challenge then the immunity challenge. Since we are having immunity/reward challenges, the rule doesn’t apply in this situation.”
Two years later, during the fifth episode of “Survivor 42,” Jeff Probst remarked on Daniel Strunk doing the same thing. “Again Daniel gonna sit out,” the host stated with a bit of a surprised tone. But don’t worry, Daniel didn’t break any rules, just like Queen Sandra didn’t. Since “Survivor 42” is having combined reward/immunity challenges, that means tribes with extra people are allowed to sit out the same player episode to episode.

Swati Goel saw her torch snuffed far sooner than some may have expected on this week’s episode of “Survivor 42.” The 19-year-old emerged as a power player on the Ika tribe in the first few episodes, making alliances with just about everyone. “Survivor 42” fans could not disagree more with who went home at the end of Episode 3. The messy Tribal Council featured two tie votes followed by a deliberation that ultimately led to Jenny Kim being voted out of the Vati tribe. The 42-year-old creative director was one of the more levelheaded players in the game, but the minority alliance of Hai Giang and Lydia Meredith targeted her, with the former persuading Daniel Strunk to change his vote to Jenny.
