“Survivor 45” made history once again last week as Kaleb Gebrewold successfully played his Shot in the Dark to a unanimous vote against him, breaking the record with 11 votes cast for him, two more than when Kelley Wentworth back in “Survivor: Second Chance” played an immunity idol negating nine votes against her. Let’s break down what events transpired that led up to this groundbreaking moment as the tribes converged to one beach.
After the ouster of Brando Meyer in the last episode, Kendra McQuarrie was on the warpath and wanted revenge on Emily Flippen for lying to her, and siding with the Reba duo of Austin Li Coon and Drew Basile. The next day, right before the boats arrived to pick the tribes up to unite with everyone, Bruce Perreault was able to find the new Lulu idol underneath the shelter and shared it with the whole tribe, minus Katurah Topps.

Since the creation of the Shot in the Dark twist at the start of the “new era” that began with “Survivor 41,” several castaways have tried using the one-in-six advantage to save their ailing games, but no one ever had luck on their side. Until now. Warning: this article contains spoilers from “Survivor 45,” Episode 6, so read at your own risk!
After the remaining 13 players attended a group tribal council in the pre-merge phase of the game, Kaleb Gebrewold knew he was in danger. He tried pegging J. Maya Krishnan-Jha as a bigger threat, but it didn’t seem to work. One by one, each player went to the cast their votes and all of them wrote down Kaleb’s name. Kaleb, having been warned by Emily Flippen that his game was hanging from a thread, didn’t vote and instead opted to play his Shot in the Dark.

In the latest episode of Jeff Probst‘s “On Fire with Jeff Probst” podcast, the long-time “Survivor” host confesses that the CBS reality TV show is purposefully designed to be “seen through the eyes of kids.” The conversation came at the end of the podcast when a fan accused him of making the show only for himself.
“I don’t think he’s wrong in that yes, on some level, I am making ‘Survivor’ for me,” Probst readily admitted, as reported by Dalton Ross (EW). He then added, “But I will say that my version of the show, for me, is seen through the eyes of kids. So that is my point of view.”

Probst later added, “Everybody knows that works with me, I say, ‘Imagine a 7-year-old at home imagining they’re the one making fire, they’re the one who found an idol.

At the start of the “new era” of “Survivor” that began with the reality TV show’s 41st season, Jeff Probst introduced a twist known as the Shot in the Dark. This die gives a player a one-in-six chance of receiving safety at tribal council, in exchange for them not voting. A handful of contestants tried their luck at pulling the “Safe” scrolls during “Survivor 41,” “Survivor 42” and “Survivor 43,” but all of them ended up with “Not Safe” scrolls instead. Well, that all changed during the season premiere of “Survivor 44.”
After the Ratu tribe lost the first immunity challenge of the season, Jaime Lynn Ruiz felt nervous back at camp. Even though she and the other two girls, Maddy Pomilla and Lauren Harpe, were planning an epic blindside of NFL player Brandon Cottom in order to flush his not-so-hidden immunity idol, Jaime still felt the need to play her Shot in the Dark.

At the start of the fifth episode of “Survivor 42,” the Ika tribe reacted to voting out Swati Goel, whose lies finally caught up with her after they realized they were all her “number one” ally. Oops! That brought Ika down to four members, tying them with the Taku tribe. The Vati tribe, meanwhile, was still in the lead with five people. So which group lost immunity on Wednesday night and had to vote out another player?

Hey, "Survivor" fans. Tonight, April 6,2022, another new episode of Survivor season 42 did indeed hit the air, and we saw another unlucky contestant get voted off the island at the end. Tonight's episode kicked off with the Ika tribe talking about their last tribal council meeting, which sent Swati Goel home. Romeo told the private cams, "Tribal council was a blindside." Romeo explained to a blindsided Rocksroy that Swati was playing both sides and that's why they got rid of her. Rocksroy agreed that they did the right thing if that was the case. Tori was seen saying she definitely wants Rockroy gone. "He's not playing the same game we are," she said. At the Taku tribe, Jonathan told the private cams, he's totally fed up with all the talking the women do. So, he went for a swim to get away from them.

In CBS’s sneak peek video for the fifth episode of “Survivor 42,” the Ika tribe returns to camp after voting out Swati Goel and they immediately start talking about the need to stay a “strong four.” But Tori Meehan (aka the therapist who’s lying about her profession) balks at the idea of unity. “Four strong literally makes me laugh,” she declares in a private confessional. “I sit there and I just literally [think], ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ I am gonna be the first person to jump ship.” Watch the “Survivor 42” episode 5 sneak peek video above.

In last week’s fourth episode, the Ika tribe confessed to host Jeff Probst that they still hadn’t “become one” yet. They hoped that by sending home Swati, who was lying to each of them about being her “number one,” they would now gel together as a cohesive group.

“Survivor 42” fans agree that Swati Goel deserved to be voted out of last week’s episode. The Ivy League student had doled out too many promises to her tribemates, who subsequently compared notes and realized she was double-dealing. While Swati did try to use her Shot in the Dark die, fearing she was indeed in danger, she was ruled not safe and received a majority of votes at Tribal Council.
In our recent poll, asking you to pick which Ika tribe member deserved to be booted, Swati also earned most of the poll results. The 19-year-old received a whopping 49, a decisive choice. But for those that disagreed, it was between two names — Tori Meehan and Rocksroy Bailey. Tori earned 29 of the vote, with the 24-year-old therapist accidentally revealing too much information in a thwarted plan to take out Drea Wheeler. Meanwhile, Rocksroy, who earned 22 of the fan vote, has been...

Swati Goel saw her torch snuffed far sooner than some may have expected on this week’s episode of “Survivor 42.” The 19-year-old emerged as a power player on the Ika tribe in the first few episodes, making alliances with just about everyone. But all those deals caught up to her in Episode 4, when the other players compared notes and realized she was making promises to too many people. The tribe then proceeded to vote her out, but do you think her ouster was deserved? Vote in our poll below.

Those relationships were thrown out the window when she campaigned to take out Zach in the first Tribal Council of the season, leading the charge that ultimately led to him being booted. Throughout the first two episodes of “Survivor” Season 42, all we’ve seen of Tori Meehan is that she’s a tad paranoid and that she’s lying about her profession (she told her tribe mates she’s a caregiver despite actually being a therapist). In a new deleted scene, we learn something else about the 25-year-old therapist from Tulsa, Oklahoma: she thinks lizards taste “icky.” Warning: vegetarians may not want to watch the “Survivor 42” deleted scene above.
The two-minute unseen footage takes place on Day 4 at the Ika camp, shortly after the group unanimously voted out Zach Wurtenberger. Since this season doesn’t provide the castaways any rice for sustenance, Tori, Swati Goel and Romeo Escobar hunt for lizards at the water well. “We are on Day 4 and we are feeling the effects of the game,” Tori explains in a confessional. “No one else is looking for food. We need food.

Zach Wurtenberger had the unlucky distinction of being the first person voted out of “Survivor 42,” which premiered last week on CBS. The 22-year-old student started the game as an eager superfan, making early alliances with most of his tribemates. After losing the Immunity Challenge for his tribe, though, he was targeted by some of those same tribemates and was ultimately voted out unanimously. As it turns out, “Survivor” fans mostly agree with the tribe’s decision.
In our recent poll, which asked fans to pick who they think should have gone home from the Ika tribe, Zach earned a whopping 51% of the vote. The next highest was Tori Meehan at 29%, having caused a stir by going off alone into the jungle, with many of her tribemates assuming she was hunting for Hidden Immunity Idols. Next up was Rocksroy Bailey at 13%, who was also a potential target after putting in a...

The “Survivor 42” premiere is now in the books, and from the uniqueness of the first challenge (complete with fake blood and a cross-tribal alliance formed), Jackson Fox‘s unexpected early ejection from the game and the first proper vote-out of the season, fans already have plenty to talk about. Swati Goel is the youngest of the 18 contestants on “Survivor 42,” at just 19 years old, but don’t let her age fool you. The Palo Alto resident is not only in the Army National Guard but is also enrolled at Harvard University, with “Survivor” now being added to her list of accomplishments. Swati believes that her basic combat training in particular will prepare her for “Survivor,” as she discusses in her CBS interview (watch below).
As Swati describes, her family is from India and there was a big focus on education as she was growing up. “A lot of people were surprised when the person who was in all the science and math clubs joined the Army National Guard,” she recalls, “but for me, it was really reflective of the values my family raised me with.” The 19-year-old is used to “starving and freezing” while enduring field exercises, which could come in handy on the island.
