Exclusive: Comedian and writer Julian Clary (Julian Clary: Live – Lord of the Mince) will play the title role in this festive season’s London Palladium pantomime Robin Hood, with singer and travel show presenter Jane McDonald (Cruising with Jane McDonald) topping the bill as Maid Marion.
The annual Palladium show, now in its ninth consecutive season, has become an eagerly awaited staple in the West End’s calendar. It runs from December 7 through January 12, 2025. Priority booking opens 10 Am (GMT) April 25.
Last year’s production, Peter Pan, with comedy legend Jennifer Saunders making her pantomime debut as Captain Hook, and with Clary playing Seaman Smee, was a sold-out success, playing 56 performances -often two a day – to an audience of more than 123,000 at the 2,200 capacity variety house.
When tickets went on sale, there was a moment when 90,000 people were in the queue, waiting their turn to book seats.

To date, eight of the 11 finalists have been named for the “America’s Got Talent” Season 18 finale, and five of them are Golden Buzzers: dance groups Murmuration and Chibi Unity, plus singing acts Putri Ariani, Lavender Darcangelo and Mzansi Youth Choir. There is still one week left to go in the Qualifiers round, and Gold Derby readers predict one additional such act will advance to the finale: singer Gabriel Henrique.
That would mean roughly half of the 2023 finalists received a confetti shower in their auditions. However, that doesn’t necessarily give them an advantage over the non-Golden Buzzer acts still in the competition: dog act Adrian Stoica and Hurricane, comedian Ahren Belisle and magician Anna DeGuzman. In fact, you don’t have to look back too far throughout “AGT” history to find an example of such an act going on to win the show.

Heidi Klum‘s fan-fave Golden Buzzer, Lavender Darcangelo, blew the roof off “America’s Got Talent” with her performance of “I Want to Know What Love Is” during the reality TV show’s first live show on Tuesday, August 22. The confetti. The tears. The hugs. Admit it: you just can’t get enough of those emotional Golden Buzzer moments on “America’s Got Talent” … and neither can we. This twist was first introduced on the American version of the worldwide talent competition in Season 10, and it’s been an integral part of NBC’s reality TV show ever since.
Throughout the auditions, the four “AGT” judges (and the host as of Season 11) get to press the Golden Buzzer for a single act that moves them emotionally, which sends the performer straight through to the live shows. During the now-defunct Judge Cuts round, guest panelists are allowed to push the button as well for their favorite act. At the start of Season 18, Simon Cowell announced that there’d be a new audience-voted buzzer for an act that wows the crowd. Want a refresher on all of the “America’s Got Talent” Golden Buzzers through the years?...

One of the most talked-about acts to come out of this year’s “America’s Got Talent” auditions is Putri Ariani, thanks in no small part to Simon Cowell blessing her with his Season 18 Golden Buzzer. All these months later, Simon is reflecting on the 17-year-old blind singer/songwriter’s audition at the piano and he’s expecting big things for her in this competition. “I would be amazed if she’s not either the winner or the runner-up. I mean, that’s who I put my money on,” he reveals in the NBC video above.
Putri came all the way from Indonesia to show the world her talent, and she performed two songs on the big stage: “Loneliness” and “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.” “There was something about her, even before she started to sing,” Simon now declares. “I just — I had a feeling. And I’ve done this a long time.

During Week 5 of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars,” the superfan voters made their choice for who they want to see in the finale, and it was good news for child ventriloquist Ana-Maria Margean. The talented tyke initially rose to fame when she won “Romania’s Got Talent” 2021, but now she’s taken her puppet skills to the U.S.A. where she’s hoping to prevail again. The only other act from this week that advanced to the finale was Tom Ball, a singer from “Britain’s Got Talent” 2022 who earned the group Golden Buzzer.

Oh yes she has!
Burke joins already announced stars Dawn French, Julian Clary, Paul Zerdin, Nigel Havers and Gary Wilmot. The panto runs at the Palladium from December 10 through January 15.
The Brits love their pantos at Christmas. Michael Harrison, who heads Crossroads Pantomimes, has turned the Palladium panto into a must-see event with spectacular sets and costumes, plenty of song and dance coupled with over-the-top jokes.
Last season Burke played Scheherazade — the Spirit of the Ring in Aladdin at the Opera House, Manchester.

Yesterday’s news that the UK government is placing London into its strictest tier 3 coronavirus lockdown has been met by an outpouring of grief from the beleaguered live entertainment sector.
Venues such as cinemas and theaters were able to re-open in the capital on December 2 when the country exited a four-week nationwide lockdown, and many have put a large amount of effort and investment into getting operational again ahead of the lucrative holiday period.
In the immediate aftermath to yesterday’s announcement, the UK Cinema Association said the move would be “devastating” for its members, particularly as Wonder Woman 1984 will soon be available to program (windowing issues asides).
Today, the cast and crew of Pantoland At The Palladium, the annual festive stage show held at the famed London theater, have joined the chorus of dissent expressing the negative impact this will have on the long term health of live venues.

“America’s Got Talent” fans are in an uproar over the fact that the reality TV show’s judges didn’t give a Golden Buzzer to 10-year-old opera singer Emanne Beasha. Three of the 12 finalists on “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” — daredevils Deadly Games, singer Brian Justin Crum and rock opera soloist Cristina Ramos — joined forces for a jaw-dropping performance on the February 18 finale. “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” continues on Monday with the fourth of five episodes showcasing the top 50 acts drawn from around the world. Another 10 take part on the January 28 edition of this spin-off from “Agt” including two past winners of the main show: performance artist Kenichi Ebina who won “America’s Got Talent” in 2013, and ventriloquist Paul Zerdin who took the title two years later.
Of the other eight acts, only one won in their respective country: Moonlight Brothers, a dance group, waltzed off with victory on “Denmark’s Got Talent” in 2018. Another, kid magician Issy Simpson, was the runner-up on “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2017.

Simon Cowell said in the first episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” that many past winners of the “Got Talent” shows around the world didn’t want to return for NBC’s spinoff series because they were afraid of losing. Well, it looks like their fears were justified.
In just the first two episodes of “Agt: Champions,” a whopping six winners dropped like flies: singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer (“America’s Got Talent” 12), singer Bianca Ryan (“Agt” 1), dog act Ashleigh and Sully (“Britain’s Got Talent” 6), jump ropers Ddf Crew (“Holland’s Got Talent” 5), sword swallower Alex Magala (“Russia’s Got Talent” 8) and dance troupe Justice Crew (“Australia’s Got Talent” 4). So far the only winner to make it into the Finals has been opera/rock singer Cristina Ramos (“Spain’s Got Talent”), thanks to the Superfan voters.
