Creating animated music videos for older children around subjects such as taxes, active citizenship and the Bill of Rights is challenging enough, but with ten directors and ten different animation pipelines, “Doc McStuffins” and “Vampirina” creator Chris Nee has described her latest project as the hardest but most rewarding project she has worked on.
As Netflix released new images of Nee’s latest project “We the People” ahead of its July 4 launch, the Emmy-winning creator and executive producer shared further insights into her new animated series of music videos, designed to educate a new generation on the importance of active citizenship.
Nee – a self-confessed politics and civics geek – told Netflix director of pre-school Heather Tilert in this morning’s online presentation that the ten-part series was a reaction to the lack of civics education in schools.

Women in Animation revealed the Class of 2020 Best Short Film winners from the organization’s Wia Class of 2020 Showcase during a live Zoom ceremony Thursday, Sept. 17.
Because the coronavirus pandemic curtailed most of the festivals where student filmmakers typically unveil their work, the Wia organized the showcase as a way of helping the burgeoning artists get their short films seen by animation professionals, recruiters, hiring managers, agents and studio executives in a virtual setting. More than 400 graduate and undergraduate student films from 121 schools worldwide were reviewed by a jury of industry professionals.
The winning short films are “Ciervo,” about a young girl who holds violence, submission and independence in an uneasy balance as one morphs into the other, by Pilar Garcia-Fernandezsesma, who recently graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design; “La Vida de una Piñata” by Elena Heller, Marina Kunz, Raphael Pfyffer and Kai Muri, graduates of Switzerland...

Netflix has picked up U.S., Canadian, and Latin American rights to Aardman’s latest stop-motion feature, “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon,” the sci-fi/comedy sequel to the Oscar-nominated “Shaun the Sheep Movie.” Co-directed by Aardman animators Richard Phelan and Will Becher, and revolving around a martian toddler, “Farmageddon” will stream in early 2020; Netflix will support an Oscar-qualifying theatrical run next season.
This bolsters Netflix’s ambitious slate of nearly a dozen animated features, coming on the heels of this month’s initial two, Oscar-buzzy, releases: “Klaus,” the charming Santa origin story with innovative 2D, and “I Lost My Body,” the acclaimed French existential mystery about a severed hand that’s the most original animated feature of the season. After only two years, Netflix has quickly established itself as a viable alternative to the Hollywood studios and a direct competitor to indies GKids and Sony Pictures Classics.

The Movie
Upon a second viewing, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is a pretty solid sequel. While the film is a mostly worthy follow-up to it’s predecessor, it’s also hard to top the brilliance of the 2014 original. Even though that film managed to capture lightning in a bottle, The Lego Movie 2 is further proof that a fantastically unique concept can only be taken so far before it becomes normalized. Such is the case with the sequel, but it’s also a pretty well told story nevertheless. It’s a story that not only manages to do a good amount of universe building, while also feeling timely and important on a thematic level.
Although the first film managed to be a response to the time in which it was made, it also remains a timeless story with a strong message. Whereas The Lego Movie 2 is also a...

It was a wild ride for Phil Lord and Chris Miller, simultaneously producing the animated Oscar favorite, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” and “Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.” Each movie fed off their penchant for irreverent, movie worshiping, meta hero journeys. It almost became symbiotic. For instance, when hitting a brick wall on “Spider-Verse,” they found creative inspiration in the joyful, brick-filled universe of Lego.
“It’s exhausting and refreshing to be able to spend a week in edit suites on ‘Spider-Man’ and then go to a preview for ‘Lego’ that’s so buoyant and everybody’s having a good time,” Lord said. “The movies are so different yet equally interesting to us, and, hopefully, equally sophisticated.”

The first “Lego Movie” was a surprise critical darling when it was released in 2014. What seemed like it would merely be a tie-in product for kids’ toys turned out to be uniquely creative, clever, and even moving. So how does the sequel follow up that surprise now that we’re all more familiar with the Lego-Verse?
“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” opened on February 8, and it has also won the approval of most critics. It has a solid MetaCritic score of 65 based on 41 reviews as of this writing, of which 30 are positive, 9 are mixed and only 2 are negative. Meanwhile, the pass-fail Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating is currently at 84% based on 144 reviews: 121 classified as positive, 23 as negative.

We all owe Kathleen Kennedy a huge thank you: When Chris Miller and Phil Lord were very famously fired from “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” they reinvested their time into “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse” and “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.” And it shows.
With “The Lego Movie 2,” the Oscar-nominated writer-producer duo are joined by director Mike Mitchell (“Trolls”) and animation director Trisha Gum to create a film that expands on the original’s premise, adding new worlds and characters to the growing Lego universe, while also crafting a story that is timely, inventive, hilarious and perfect for all ages.
The film picks up where the first left off, with Dad (Will Ferrell) and son Finn bonding and playing Lego together. Just as Dad informs Finn that his little sister Bianca (Brooklynn Prince) can play with them too, her Duplo creations arrive in Bricksburg to “destwoy” them, creating chaos...

Everything is mostly still awesome in The Lego Movie 2, but it might be time soon to put all the blocks back in storage.
Before The Lego Movie arrived in 2014, it seemed like the general feeling about the project was, “Gee, Hollywood must be in pretty sad shape to consider making a movie about Lego blocks, and by the way, how the hell are they gonna do that anyway?” Cut to the actual appearance of the movie, a winning blend of wildly imaginative world-building, gently stated yet genuinely moving themes, visual panache and a never-ending stream of smart, hilarious pop culture in-jokes, and the naysayers -- including this one -- were silenced and charmed by it all.

Early tracking in the Us suggests Warner Bros./Animal Logic’s The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will have a gangbusters opening in North America next month.
The sequel to the 2014 blockbuster is expected to rake in as much as $US55 million over the February 8-10 weekend.
That would easily beat that weekend’s competition, Paramount’s comedy What Men Want, a twist on the Mel Gibson 2000 comedy What Women Want starring Taraji P. Henson; Lionsgate’s actioner Cold Pursuit starring Liam Neeson; and Orion’s horror movie The Prodigy.
In unaided awareness among moviegoers, The Lego Movie 2 is tracking ahead of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Hotel Transylvania 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet, according to Deadline.com.
The first movie opened on the same weekend in 2014, generating $69 million and finishing with $257.7 million in the Us and $469.1 million globally.

We’ve got some more cool casting news for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part that all of you DC fans will be happy to hear.
According to Flickering Myth, Gal Gadot will be voicing Wonder Woman in the sequel. The heroine was previously voiced by Cobie Smulders, but it makes sense for Gadot to take over. It was also confirmed that Margot Robbie and Jason Momoa will be reprising their roles as Harley Quinn and Aquaman, respectively.
The movie will also include appearances by Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern, and they will be voiced by Will Arnett, Channing Tatum, and Jonah Hill. Cyborg and The Flash will also be in the movie, but there’s no word on who’ll be voicing those characters.

What more do you want from the sequel to “The Lego Movie?” How about intergalactic space horses voiced by Tiffany Haddish? Or maybe Chris Pratt voicing a new character, Rex Dangervest, “Galaxy defending archeologist, cowboy and raptor trainer” (sounds like a quick glance at Pratt’s filmography)? We even get to see his character tickle a raptor made out of legos. We bet you didn’t see that in “Jurassic World!”
Well, “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” is stacked with all of those missing pieces. The latest trailer for the film shows Emmet blasting off into space in order to rescue Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) after she’s captured by an invading alien named Sweet Mayhem.
“Emmet, did you draw stubble dots on your face,” Wyldstyle asks as Emmet tries to look tough like Dangervest.

Warner Bros. have released the first teaser trailer for ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part‘, the follow up to the 2014 smash hit ‘The Lego Movie‘. The sequel takes place 5 years after the events of “Taco Tuesday”, once again following Emmett & Lucy as they face a new threat in the Lego Duplo, space invaders who wreck Bricksburg faster than they can rebuild.
This teaser trailer does a great job of setting up how the sequel builds on the ending of the original film, while also teasing the new adventure that’s to come. It’s clear from this trailer that most of this footage is very early in the story, but I’m absolutely loving the inclusion of The Beastie Boys “Intergalactic” set to all of the new footage from the film.
