The internet and social media are filled with all kinds of people. There are supporters, haters and trolls everywhere. A lot of celebrities prefer staying off social media for their own sanity. Over the last ten years, we’ve seen these platforms become easily accessible to anyone and everyone. Almost a decade ago, actress Kristen Stewart shared how she feared that someone from a social media platform might kill her.
In 2012, when Kristen Stewart was just 22, she talked about how, because of social media, people might always know where she is. In author Talia Soghomonion’s e-book called ‘Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner – In Their Own Words’, the Twilight actress said, “Nowadays it’s harder because everyone is on Facebook and everyone knows where you are all the time, and everyone’s twittering. As Sundance deals slowly start to pile up, one U.S. Dramatic Competition title still searching for distribution is Sam and Andy Zuchero’s “Love Me.”
Starring Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun in both voice and live-action form, the sci-fi romance centers on a satellite and an ocean-bound buoy who become increasingly sentient and fall in love over the course of billions of years. Sam and Andy, for their feature debut, constructed an actual satellite and buoy to scale before the film morphs into “The Sims”-style animation using motion capture with the actors who, finally, performed as their real selves, unadorned by technology, on a soundstage. This earnest and innovative love story — which in part tells a hopeful story of artificial intelligence at a cultural moment where it feels very much like an existential threat — should find an appreciative audience, especially given the compelling chemistry of the leads. The...

A high-concept vehicle about machines falling in love, Sam and Andy Zuchero’s Love Me aims to be a fable about how the detritus left behind by now-extinct humanity could serve as a misleading guide to how romance should be done. The film starts with an impressive animated opening montage showing the history of Earth in a comedically sped-up fashion; what might be a species-annihilating nuclear war is viewed from a distance as just a flicker of sparks across the planet’s surface. It’s a very grandiose presentation of what’s ultimately a thin sliver of an idea about how social media tropes impede rather than help relationships.
Following that ambitious start, the Zucheros downshift awkwardly into something that feels more like a Pixar film by way of Stanley Kubrick. Love Me zooms in to the Earth’s frozen and lifeless surface in the near post-apocalyptic future. Except for...

Kristen Stewart’s domination of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival continued at the Variety Sundance Cover Party presented by United Airlines, where Stewart was honored for her starring roles in two big festival premieres: “Love Me,” a post-apocalyptic romance film in which she stars opposite Steven Yeun, and “Loves Lies Bleeding,” an A24-backed crime thriller in which she played a reclusive gym manager who falls for a local bodybuilder.
“It’s hard to get here,” Stewart told Variety at the party about returning to Sundance, where she has premiered more than a dozen movies throughout her career. “Not because it’s an established and elite film festival, but because it supports marginalized voices. Voices that aren’t heard anywhere else. It’s a solidifying, communal feeling and it only makes you stronger to go back into a world of a ‘no’ and say, ‘I know that there’s a place for me.

Set in a post-human world, Love Me, directed and written by Sam and Amy Zuchero and starring Steven Yeun and Kristen Stewart, unfolds as an unconventional love story between two inanimate objects. These entities stumble upon each other in the digital realm and, through the remnants of human knowledge, adopt new identities in hopes of evolving their relationship.
In a world where humans no longer exist, an ocean 350 Smart buoy or “Me” (Stewart) and a space satellite “I am” (Yeun) discover each other online. As a satellite with the knowledge left behind by humanity, these objects adopt new identities via the internet. They embark on a quest to attain human characteristics by mimicking videos from the internet and social media focusing particularly on content from two social media personalities, Déja and Liam, also depicted by Stewart and Yeun. Throughout their journey, as the buoy and satellite evolve into sentient entities,...

Sundance Film Festival kicks off on Thursday when the industry will gather on the mountain to put the world to rights and buyers will engage in the annual hunt for the festival’s must-have acquisition titles.
Streamers and theatrical buyers will vie for coveted breakouts and while there will almost certainly be a number of on-site deals as there were last year when Netflix swooped on Fair Play in a $20m deal, Apple forked out close to that amount for Flora And Son, and Searchlight Pictures paid $8m for Theater Camp, the post-Covid deal lag will...

82 films have been selected to screen during the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. In addition, eight episodic titles and a New Frontier interactive experience have made the cut and will be included in the upcoming festival.
17,435 projects were submitted for 2024 inclusion, setting a new festival record.
“From the first edition in 1985, Sundance Film Festival has aimed to provide a space to gather, celebrate, and engage with risk-taking artists that are committed to bringing their independent visions to audiences — the Festival remains true to that goal to this day,” stated Robert Redford, Sundance Institute Founder and President. “It continues to evolve, but its legacy of showcasing bold work that starts necessary conversations continues with the 2024 program.”

It’s almost time again for me to pack my bags and head to Park City, Utah, for the 2024 edition of the Sundance Film Festival. The last few years have been challenging for the fest, with the 2021 and 2022 editions only being online due to the pandemic. The 2023 edition was a hybrid version that sported a few high-profile debuts, including A24’s horror hit Talk to Me, but overall was a bit of a modest year in terms of stuff that broke out. However, 2024 seems to be a high-end year for the fest, with tons of big stars on the way to the festival, including Pedro Pascal, Kristen Stewart (there with two movies), Sebastian Stan, Woody Harrelson and many more.
It’s always interesting to note the trend in storytelling at this famous indie fest. In recent years, the pandemic weighed highly on the fest, with many films acknowledging the toll it took,...
