Update, with Scheffler statement: Scottie Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 golfer, arrived at Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club following his arrest and detainment this morning, reportedly making his tee walk to chants from onlookers of “Scottie! Scottie! Scottie!” and “Free Scottie!”
Scheffler was arrested, briefly detained and charged with four criminal counts in Louisville earlier today just hours before he teed off in the second round of the PGA Championship.
In an incident with police officers at a traffic stoppage outside Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club, Scheffler apparently was ordered to stop his vehicle and attempted to keep driving. The year’s second major, the PGA Championship, takes place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, May 16-19. Defending champion Brooks Koepka (pictured above) aims for his fourth PGA Championship title. He’ll face tough competition in Masters champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark. After a disappointing performance at the Masters, Tiger Woods hopes to show some improvement in his game. “I think every one of the majors he plays he’s got a better chance,” says ESPN analyst and reporter Andy North. “I think they all become easier walks for him as we get into the season. But I think he’s played well at Valhalla. He’s got some great memories there. He’s got a lot of great shots he can step up on tees and remember hitting. I think that’s really important.

Olympia Fields, Ill, Aug 20 (Ians) Scottie Scheffler made a bunch of birdies in his 6-under 64 that gave him a share of the lead with Matt Fitzpatrick (66) in a BMW Championship that is wide open.
Fitzpatrick looked set for the lead but fell into a tie on the 18th when he went from the bunker to the rough and after coming out from under a tree, he got to the edge of the green and then had a 5-foot bogey putt.
Scheffler and Fitzpatrick were at 11-under 199, one shot clear of Open Championship winner Brian Harman (67).
American Indian Sahith Theegala (69) needs a solid final round to move from his current projected 34th place to inside Top 30 for a second straight entry into the Tour Championships.
For almost half-dozen players the fight is to finish in the top 30 in the FedExCup that allows them to advance to the Tour Championship next week at East Lake.
