Leading up to the Grammy nominations on Nov. 10, Rolling Stone is breaking down 16 different categories. For each, we’re predicting the nominees, as well as who will (and who should) win on Grammy night.
The Foo Fighters are Grammy catnip, especially given Dave Grohl’s eager participation in the festivities. They’ve been nominated 31 times and won 15 awards, including a record five times for Best Rock Record. While they did win it as recently as 2022 for Medicine at Midnight, the emotional heft of But Here We Are makes it likely...

Joni Mitchell has shared her new live album At Newport, commemorating her surprise appearance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival.
Co-produced by Mitchell along with fellow Newport performer Brandi Carlile, the album features 12 live recordings. Throughout the performance, Mitchell and Carlile were accompanied by artists including Phil and Tim Hanseroth, Wynonna Judd, Marcus Mumford, Celisse, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. The setlist includes Mitchell classics like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “A Case Of You,” and “Both Sides Now.”
Not only was Mitchell’s Newport set her first live performance in over 20 years, but it also marked a rare public appearance since she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015. Mitchell’s longtime friend, filmmaker Cameron Crowe, wrote about the magic of her return in the live album’s liner notes. (You can get the physical version of the album here.)

Mandy Moore fell victim to a porch pirate recently, when a stroller she ordered for her infant son was stolen. The 39-year-old “This Is Us” alum and her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, caught the moment on a security camera.
The actress took to Instagram on Wednesday to share an image of the purported thief in action, snagging a large box from in front of a security gate. The image appears to be a video still sent to her from her husband via text message.
“People Are the Worst,” she wrote over the image.
“I was wondering where the @cybex_usa stroller I ordered for Ozzie went. I was going back and forth with customer service and @fedex and I swore to them it wasn’t delivered and then I found this video (which won’t load here for some reason),” she wrote. “This dude watched for an hour while the...

Joni Mitchell has been one of the most honored musicians of this century. She’s picked up honors from the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, and an honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music.
But something was missing. Save for a surprise set at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival, you could’t buy a ticket to a Joni Mitchell concert.
That changed Saturday night, as the 79-year-old Mitchell returned to the stage at the Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, Washington. The momentous occasion was marked by guest performances by Annie Lennox, Brandi Carlile, Blake Mills, Lucius, Sarah McLachlan, Marcus Mumrod, Celisse, and Taylor Goldsmith in an ensemble performance dubbed the “Joni Jam.”
Twitter was ablaze with multiple videos from the concert.

Joni Mitchell has officially announced At Newport, a live album immortalizing her surprise appearance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival. The project arrives on streaming services, CD, and 2xLP on July 28th.
Mitchell’s first live performance in 20 years came during Brandi Carlile’s set at the festival, so it’s only fair that Carlile would co-produce the live album with Mitchell herself. Phil and Tim Hanseroth, Wynonna Judd, Marcus Mumford, Celisse, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes also performed with the artists during the set, which featured Mitchell classics like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “A Case Of You,” and “Both Sides Now.” Mitchell even performed a solo instrumental version of “Just Like This Train” on guitar.

Fronted by band members Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin), “Daisy Jones & The Six” is now a TV series on Amazon Prime Video, but bringing the show to life meant that the songs that make the titular group a hit needed to actually be written.

“Aurora,” the once fictional album imagined by Taylor Jenkins Reid in her best-selling novel “Daisy Jones & the Six” has come to life with 11 of the 25 original songs written for Prime Video’s TV show adaptation. Blake Mills and Tony Berg reimagined songs Reid listed in the back of her book for “Aurora,” enlisting collaborators like Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers and more to write and record the album.
But in addition to the original Daisy Jones & the Six songs, classic 70s rock and roll hits like Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move” and The Byrds’ “Goin’ Back” set the scene for the collision of Daisy Jones and rock band The Six, who rocket to fame together, echoing the dynamic of Fleetwood Mac, Civil Wars and The Eagles to name a few.

There’s a reason why Taylor Goldsmith felt a deep, restless urge to release a brand new live recording of his band Dawes’ 2022 album, Misadventures of Doomscroller. And it all had to do with identity.
“I just felt like so much of what our band is — so much of our identity — takes place onstage,” the Dawes frontman tells Rolling Stone. “For the people that have been with us the last 10 years or whatever, the ones coming to the shows, they’re probably hearing this record and thinking, ‘Oh yeah, this is what they do.

Joni Mitchell has a new album in the works, and she made that revelation to none other than Sir Elton John!
During a rare interview on Elton’s “Rocket Hour” on Apple Music 1, the “Cactus Tree” singer revealed during Saturday’s episode that she’s releasing a new album following her surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island this past July, marking her first full live performance since 2002.
Mitchell’s legendary status grew exponentially, after revealing to Elton that she didn’t even rehearse for that appearance, which is the basis of the new live album.
Elton complimented Mitchell for her “incredible rehabilitation” (she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015) while adding that he could tell how music has helped her so much.
“It’s beautiful to watch you evolve,” the “Tiny Dancer” singer added. “And people out there, you haven’t heard things from the Newport Folk Festival yet,...

Last July, Brandi Carlile had a provocation for her friend Jay Sweet, the head of Newport Folk Festival. “One year from now,” Sweet remembers her telling him. “I bet you we can bring Joni Mitchell to this stage.”
The festival head was skeptical. A few years back, he had witnessed a magical moment at a show in Los Angeles when Mitchell was reunited with her old friend Mavis Staples, whom she hadn’t seen in many years. When the two singers met, they butterfly-kissed, nose to nose, for a full 30 seconds without speaking.

This Is Us, NBC’s praised drama series, which previously had been Emmy-nominated four times for best drama series, received only one nomination Tuesday for its final season – for Original Music and Lyrics. Stars Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz shared their thoughts on social media following today’s Emmy nominations announcement. Moore was considered a strong contender in the drama series acting category for her praised performance, particularly for her work in the penultimate episode.

Almost completely skipping over the show and its cast members, This Is Us walked away with only one nod for "The Forever Now," an original song written by the Mandy's husband Taylor Goldsmith and composer Siddhartha Khosla. Mandy Moore let her disappointment known on social media about the shocking Emmy nominations snubs for the final season of her beloved NBC series, “This Is Us.” Moore earned some of the best reviews of her career for her performance in the final season, most notably in the series’ penultimate episode. Moore was viewed as a contender for actress in a drama series but didn’t make the cut.
“Do I wish our show was recognized in what I think was it’s finest hour? Sure,” Moore wrote on her Instagram story. “And Dan Fogelman’s brilliant writing for 6 seasons (hello The Train)? Ken Olin’s impeccable direction? Our insanely, wildly talented cast and crew? Yah…. But nothing can take away what our show meant to So Many (us included). That’s an incredible legacy to be a part of. I will be grateful forever.”

Welp, apparently the Emmys hate Westerns.
The stunning lack of nominations for the popular and acclaimed series “Yellowstone” and “1883” were far from the only surprises in Tuesday morning’s Emmy nominations announcement, of course. Between the return of Emmy juggernaut “Succession” and the lack of previous winners like “The Crown” and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” this year’s race was already primed for some unexpected nominations — and some surprising omissions.
Two shows weren’t overlooked, however: Season 3 of “Sex Education” and the inaugural season of “Heartstopper.” While both series earned wide acclaim and major buzz, Netflix elected not to submit either for Primetime Emmy consideration, given the steep competition they were respectively facing in the comedy and drama categories. Instead, “Sex Education” is being submitted for the upcoming International Emmys, and “Heartstopper” will vie for recognition in the Children’s & Family Emmys.
