There are a variety of metrics that networks and others use to measure the success of a late-night talk show. Fox News is quick to point out that their 10 p.m. late-night style show Gutfeld! actually gets more live-plus-same day viewers than any of the traditional late-night talk shows. But if you factor in delayed viewing, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert takes the lead. And if you count views on digital platforms like YouTube and TikTok, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is top dog.
Which got us wondering: What other metrics might one use to measure the success of these shows?
This being late night, naturally we thought of laughter. So we sent our intrepid screen timer Matthew Stewart (the wizard behind our weekly SNL screen time tallies) out to answer the question no one ever asked: Which late-night talk show gets the most laughs per minute?

If you were active on social media, you’d know that Lily Gladstone was a fan-favorite nominee and a ton of people were rooting for her to win the Oscar. However, that’s not what happened as Emma Stone ended up taking the award home for Poor Things. Now, there’s a debate going on that Lily Gladstone should’ve been nominated in the supporting category instead to ensure her win.

One week after Jo Koy received an “F” grade for hosting the Golden Globes, all eyes were on Anthony Anderson as he stepped foot on the Emmys stage for the first time as an emcee. The comedian and actor kept audiences entertained for three hours on Fox with his constant musical performances, including “The Facts of Life,” “Good Times” and “Miami Vice.” Meanwhile, his loving Mama, Doris Hancox, interrupted winners on the big stage if their speeches went on too long.
In all, the majority of Emmy viewers gave Anderson a passing grade for his inaugural hosting abilities, according to Gold Derby’s overnight poll. Here are the complete poll results:
B — I rather liked him — 37%
A — Brilliant from start to finish! — 28%
F — Awful, awful, awful — 19%
C — He was just okay — 9%
D — Somewhat forgettable — 7%

Todd Haynes is the latest auteur to use Cannes as a launching pad for a potential Oscar contender, debuting his delicious dramedy “May December” at the festival on Saturday.
Premiering less than one hour after Martin Scorsese’s 202-minute “Killers of the Flower Moon” conquered Cannes, the torrential downpour on Saturday night couldn’t keep many patrons away from taking in the Haynes movie. And not just because the movie reunites the director with his muse Julianne Moore, who he worked wonders with on “Safe” (1995) and “Far from Heaven” (2002), the latter which earned an Oscar nomination for Moore’s performance and one for Haynes’ script.
Add the excitement of Moore acting opposite Natalie Portman; how can this not be a winning recipe for success? With a whip-smart script from feature debut screenwriter Samy Burch (and a “story by” credit by Alex Mechanik), as well as a surprising standout turn from heartthrob Charles Melton,...
