The Mothership, a Halle Berry sci-fi film, was scrapped due to “lots of production issues” according to Netflix boss Bela Bajaria.
Update: Just a little more detail on the scrapping of the Netflix sci-fi flick, The Mothership. Yesterday, The Wrap published a report with some quotes from Netflix content boss Bela Bajaria about the matter, but that report was suddenly taken down.
Since then, The Hollywood Reporter has put up its own report, which offers a bit more context. Bajaria made the comments at the streaming giant’s press event, Next on Netflix, in which it also unveiled its slate of upcoming films and shows. Squid Game season two, Beverly Hills Cop, that sort of thing.
In a brief snippet dedicated to The Mothership, THR quotes Bajaria as saying the film was scrapped due to “lots of production issues and story issues.”

Netflix just unveiled the line-up of films they’ll be releasing in 2024, and missing from that list is the Halle Berry sci-fi movie The Mothership – which, as we reported last week, Netflix has decided not to release at all. At the time, their decision to scrap the movie was reminiscent of Warner Bros. scrapping the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt (as well as a couple other Scooby-Doo projects). But, while at a media event yesterday, Bela Bajaria, who is currently serving as chief of Netflix’s film division, said the producers of The Mothership agreed with Netflix that the movie shouldn’t be released. This is different from what goes on at Warner Bros., where filmmakers are shocked and upset to hear their work is being tossed in the trash.

Last week, Netflix did what is unfortunately becoming common practice around Hollywood: They killed a nearly completed movie, Halle Berry’s sci-fi title The Mothership.
Essentially, the Matthew Charman-directed movie was in postproduction, and for all the changes that were required, it would have been impossible to do reshoots on the title completed in 2021 due to the child actors who are now grown up.
No bruised eyes: Reportedly, MRC and the pic’s producers Automatik were fully onboard with the decision, with Netflix pointing out that they’re still in business with Berry on an upcoming Mark Wahlberg action title The Union (August 16), not to mention the streamer has a film deal with the Best Actress Oscar winner.

These days, "Batman Returns" rightfully gets its due. But Tim Burton's sequel to his 1989 effort, "Batman," was assailed by critics upon its release, who felt that it was either too dark, too overcrowded with characters, lacking in plot, or just plain weird. Even many fans were ticked off by the Burton-ness of the whole thing and felt the director and screenwriter, Daniel Waters, had strayed too far from the core of the Dark Knight.
In a way, they were right. Burton had let his freak flag fly, making his own movie and not necessarily a Batman movie. Waters admitted as much after a recent screening of "Returns," saying (via IndieWire):
"It was a weird assignment in that I didn't need to please anyone but Tim Burton. Before the internet, you didn't have to go before a tribunal and say what you were doing — it was just two guys in a room riffing.

Halle Berry became a mother of two children after years of devoting herself to her career. She credited one film for pushing her to become a parent.

In 2007, Berry starred in the Susanna Bier movie Things We Lost in the Fire. The feature saw Berry playing a mother and widow of two children reeling from the loss of her husband. To make sure her performance was authentic, Berry went deep into the mindset of her tormented character.
“You know that was sort of like a delicate tight rope dance and I did everyday with Susanna trying to find the balance and trying to really find those little moments and hit them just right and really bring truth to the grieving process and not make it overly sentimental and really not be afraid...

Halle Berry joined the James Bond mythology after being cast as a Bond girl for Die Another Day. But one producer felt she played a much bigger role than Bond girls of the past.
Halle Berry was seen as the closest actor to a female James Bond in ‘Die Another Day’ Halle Berry | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Berry was cast as Jinx in Brosnan’s last Bond film Die Another Day. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Berry reflected on how she ended up in the role in the first place. According to the actor, she didn’t have to audition for the part. But rather, it seemed producer Barbara Broccoli already had her in mind as Brosnan’s co-star.
Berry had plenty of reasons to accept the part from Broccoli, which included joining James Bond’s rich legacy.

Halle Berry filmed several iconic moments with her Oscar-winning role in Monster’s Ball. But some of those moments were a bit rough to watch for her husband at the time Eric Benet.
The surprising ‘Monster’s Ball’ scene that made Halle Berry’s ex-husband feel uncomfortable Halle Berry | Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images
Monster’s Ball required Berry to do a lot of scenes that might’ve been out of the actor’s comfort zone. For instance, she needed to remove her clothes for her much talked about love scene with Billy Bob Thornton . It was only the second time in her career where she went nude for the camera. The experience was far from pleasant.
“We’re not doing what it looks like we’re doing, and I think sometimes it’s hard for people to wrap their brain [around that],” she once told Chicago Tribune. “There’s a roomful of people, and it...

The final season of “Outlander” is almost here and the cast are placing their bets on how it all ends.
The show’s leads, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, are just hoping for a happy ending for their tragic couple.
“I don’t know, but I would like to see them happy at the end,” Balfe told Et Canada’s Keisha Chante when asked to predict the ending of the show. “You know, I would like to see them just sitting on a porch, being able to put their feet up, have a nice cup of tea.”
While they hoped for greener pastures for their characters, some of the other cast members had more extreme predictions.

Pineapple Street Studios, the podcasting shop behind Will Be Wild and the official Succession companion podcast, has named longtime staffers Bari Finkel and Je-Anne Berry as the studio’s new co-heads.
Finkel and Berry will take over leadership of the studio from co-founders Jenna Weiss-Berman and Max Linsky, who founded Pineapple Street in 2016 and guided the company through its 2019 acquisition by broadcaster Audacy.
The duo will report up to Weiss-Berman, who was named the executive vp podcasts for Audacy in March and now oversees all of Audacy’s podcasting efforts, including for subsidiaries Cadence13, 2400 Sports and Audacy’s local news stations, as well as Pineapple Street.
Following Weiss-Berman’s promotion, Linsky had continued to lead Pineapple Street with then-head of operations Finkel. But beginning in August, Linsky will step aside and become a senior podcast strategist for Audacy, where he will continue to executive produce podcasts for the company.

The two-part “30 for 30” documentary on the seminal 1990s competition show “American Gladiators” has now concluded, wrapping up an epic saga that cut right to the core of the American Dream.
The documentary dove deep into the largely unknown history of the show, which dominated the TV landscape in its initial run in syndication on US television and around the world. It revealed stories of love, lust, betrayal, friendship, injury, agony, and everything in between from the creators of the show and the Gladiators themselves.
So how did a nearly three-hour doc about a show famous for events like jousting with things that looked like huge cotton swabs and rolling around in giant steel balls called Atlaspheres come together? According to the doc’s director Ben Berman, he was skeptical when initially approached by Vice about the project but changed his mind once he learned more about the story.
