The news about a potential Call of Duty film first surfaced in 2015 when Activision Blizzard launched a production studio called Activision Blizzard Studios. Many sources confirmed at the time that the motion picture production company was working on a live-action movie based on the Call of Duty video game franchise. However, the production was shut down in 2020 as the movie was not the studios’ priority.
Henry Cavill in a still from Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
It’s been four years since the last announcement but many fans on social media are positive that Activision Blizzard will soon announce the movie. Last year, there were many debates over the film’s cast and a petition was filed that demanded that the film features actors from the game itself. The petition faced criticism as there have been rumors about Henry Cavill and Jensen Ackles joining the project.

This year’s Emmy Awards were all about TV reunions, while audiences around the country got to see the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Cheers” reunite, there were some unofficial ones that didn’t make the live broadcast.
Take the “Yellowjackets” cast and crew, who got back together before the show started.
The show was nominated for two Emmys including best drama series and lead actress in a drama for Melanie Lynskey. Hours before the show aired, the teen cast including Liv Hewson, Courtney Eaton, Sophie Nélisse, Sammi Hanratty and Kevin Alves had gathered in the lobby, chatting and taking selfies before doors to the main theater were open. They were joined by Warren Kole and later director Karyn Kusama and showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, as well as Tawny Cypress.
Yes, season 3 is being written and the show is expected to be back in production in late May.

Do the adult Yellowjackets really feel like reminiscing about life in the wilderness?
In “Burial,” Episode 207 of Showtime’s popular drama, a reunion of the adult women finally occurs at Lottie’s Camp Green Pine, where Shauna (Melanie Lynsey) joins Taissa (Tawny Cypress), Misty (Christina Ricci), Natalie (Juliette Lewis) and Van (Lauren Ambrose) to take in a few, er, treatments before gathering for some adult refreshments by the fire. No one, however, is really interested in looking back at their time starving in the forest, especially when there are much heavier developments to wrestle with (like Van’s admission to Taissa that she has a fatal form of...

Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” has officially submitted 18 actors for Emmys consideration, and as part of the show’s campaign, the network has released several FYC posters for each character.
Melanie Lynskey, who earned a nomination last year for playing Shauna, will be joined by Tawny Cypress (Taissa), Juliette Lewis (Natalie) and Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teen version of Shauna, in outstanding lead actress.
Christina Ricci (Misty), Samantha Hanratty (Teen Misty), Courtney Eaton (Teen Lottie), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Teen Taissa), Lauren Ambrose (Adult Van), Sophie Thatcher (Teen Nat) and Simone Kessell (Adult Lottie) are among those vying for outstanding supporting actress. Both Eaton and Kessell are among the Aapi contenders. Should Kessell be recognized for her portrayal of Adult Lottie, she would be the first Pacific Islander to receive a nod in that category. Meanwhile, Kevin Alves (Teen Travis), Steven Krueger (Coach Ben), Elijah Wood (Walter) and Warren Kole (Jeff) will...

Last year’s breakout hit “Yellowjackets” swarmed awards season with seven Emmy nominations including Best Drama Series in 2022. The Showtime drama is looking to outperform those numbers this year by submitting 18 actors for consideration from its Season 2 cast. The Emmy ballots were officially unveiled on the Television Academy’s website on June 15, the same day nominations-round voting began (it will conclude on June 26 at 10:00 p.m.).
Most notable is Melanie Lynskey, who earned a Best Actress bid for playing Shauna Sadecki last year and currently ranks second in our odds to win the prize this time around. Cast mates joining her in the Best Drama Actress field are Tawny Cypress (Taissa Turner), Juliette Lewis (Natalie Scatorccio) and the teen version of Shauna, Sophie Nélisse.

Christina Ricci looks to repeat her nomination from last year as well.

No Troma remake should attempt to match Troma at its revolting, boundary-demolishing, trigger-happy game. Take 1980’s Mother’s Day, for example. Troma Entertainment ringleader Lloyd Kaufman let his brother Charles Kaufman shoot a rape-revenge exploitation sleazefest no mamma would applaud. Darren Lynn Bousman’s 2010 remake abandons Tromaville signatures almost entirely for a mean-mugging reinterpretation rooted in more straightforward thriller formulas because few indie studios are willing to push as far as Troma — especially in today’s acutely more socially attentive climate. You could get away with Mother’s Day (1980) in the 80s, especially with its cereal bowls filled with consumerism commentaries, but even today’s midnighter-loving moviegoer is looking for something more evolved.
Then again, Troma’s catalog might be the most fertile soil for remakes, given how even midrange studio pocket change would be a budgetary increase. Troma Studios has earned its legacy as an independent horror tentpole, but...

"Yellowjackets" was renewed for season three before the second season even premiered this spring, promising fans more chaos, cults, and cannibalism. Showtime confirmed season three in December 2022. The show's creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, have planned for the story of the ill-fated New Jersey soccer champs to be told over the course of five seasons, so the next season will put the story over the halfway mark.
But when the third season will finally air is, unfortunately, a huge unknown thanks to the ongoing writers' strike. Back in March, Lyle and Nickerson told The Hollywood Reporter that they were trying to start writing the new season before the strike began. "The possibility of the strike is very real. All we can do is keep moving forward until we have to put our pencils down," Lyle said. She added that the writers' room would begin officially meeting in April.

The Yellowjackets are currently on strike, but they’re going to return with something for fans to buzz about. A bonus episode of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” is expected to premiere before Season 3 officially premieres, showrunner Ashley Lyle has said on Twitter.
Lyle, who created the series with her husband Bart Nickerson and co-showruns with him and Jonathan Lisco, revealed the news when responding to a fan’s tweet claiming they stayed up late in the hope that a surprise bonus episode would premiere on the Showtime app.
“Noooo. Go to bed! Get some rest!” Lyle tweeted in response to the fan account. “There will be a bonus episode between seasons, but I love you guys and I don’t want y’all to lose sleep thinking it’s tonight.”
When contacted by IndieWire, Showtime declined to comment on Lyle’s announcement.

There are silly, insignificant "what if" games that one plays as a kid or even as an adult. I was not once asked what I would do if I were stranded in the wilderness or on an island. These "what if" questions become a harsh reality for the protagonists in Yellowjackets by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. As Yellowjackets returns for a second season, the fan-favorite group of survivors wraps themselves in an even larger cocoon of lies and risky scenarios before reuniting at Lottie's cult for the vicious and trailblazing doozy of a finale. At the same time, things get dire for the soccer team in the wild as the winter comes and there is no food. Season 2 has a lot in store for us, such as answers about Lottie's mental state and Shauna's pregnancy. At the same time,...

This post contains spoilers for the "Yellowjackets" season 2 finale.
The season 2 finale of "Yellowjackets" is out, and fans aren't 100% thrilled. A lot of the backlash so far has centered around the death of adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis), a plot point that was arguably a little rushed and unsatisfying. The other major point of contention is with the resolution of the long-running Adam subplot. Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) killed a guy she was having an affair with in season 1, and after a full season of the police closing in on her, the situation's been resolved not through the actions of Shauna herself, but with the help of Walter (Elijah Wood), a man Shauna's never even met.
For a lot of fans, this conclusion is a little too convenient. It's made worse because Walter's whole plan doesn't hold up to scrutiny in the slightest. There's no way an experienced detective would casually accept...

"Yellowjackets" is the type of show that's able to elicit a half-dozen different emotions from viewers in the span of just a few minutes. One second, you can be laughing at Jeff (Warren Kole) as he laments that he won't be able to Google himself anymore if he goes on the run, and the next you can be gasping over Kevyn's (Alex Wyndham) death. The show is often scary, funny, and often deeply emotional, but arguably no episode has been more downright heartbreaking than last night's finale.
The hour saw multiple deaths, losses, and changes of fortune for the Yellowjackets, from the aforementioned poisoning of Kevyn to the fire that engulfed the hunting lodge to the crowning of teen Natalie as the new antler queen. Decades later, though, we also saw grown-up Natalie (Juliette Lewis) meet her end, as she...

No lie. The tragic season finale of Yellowjackets made us cry by killing off tormented bad-ass Natalie (Juliette Lewis) who was finally starting to heal from her ’90s wilderness trauma. We also shed a tear for the bleak state of her grieving surviving friends: Misty (Christina Ricci), broken with guilt about accidentally killing Nat; Lottie (Simone Kessell), unhinged and about to be hospitalized; Tai (Tawny Cypress) and Van (Lauren Ambrose) whose suddenly rekindled passion has chilled just as quickly; and teary Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) who can’t deny that her daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins) has inherited her mom’s capacity for violence. The one person who seemed the most stable at the episode’s end was Shauna’s husband Jeff (Warren Kole) – sweet, earnest, furniture salesman Jeff Sadecki! Sure, he watched his old high school friend Kevyn (Alex Wyndham) drop dead and then helped Misty’s murderer boyfriend Walter (Elijah Wood) move the body.

This post contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets."
Season 2 of "Yellowjackets" is over and though it wasn't always paced to my liking, the last three episodes bowled me over. I think the season demonstrates how, for good or ill, character and structure are intertwined in storytelling. What made the 2021 storyline of "Yellowjackets" season 1 good was the characters. In the present day, there's less urgency and sustained mystery than in the 1996 wilderness storyline. So the characters' interactions, and all the intrigue and black comedy carried within them, were what sustained interest.
Watching the Yellowjackets plotting to find out who's blackmailing them or covering up the murder of Adam (Peter Gadiot) was just as exciting as seeing their teenage selves struggle to survive. The debut season's highlight was Misty following Natalie around like a poodle desperate for love — the manic Christina Ricci and dour Juliette Lewis was the salt-and-pepper, '90s screen queen pairing I never knew I needed.

Since its 2021 debut, "Yellowjackets" has had the best soundtrack on TV, and season 2 kept up the momentum across its nine-episode run. Half of "Yellowjackets" is set in the 1990s and so the soundtrack pulls mostly from that era, especially indie rock, pop punk, and grunge. Those styles congeal into "No Return," the show's hypnotic original theme crafted by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren. It sounds like the kind of song the characters could have listened to as teenagers and one that hints at their dark descent.
If you're in a playlist-making mood, check out /Film's own guide to every song on the "Yellowjackets" season 2 soundtrack. Beyond these songs being kick-ass, what do they bring to the show? I'd argue they not only add to the mood, they make watching "Yellowjackets" extra rewarding for viewers — you don't just walk away with great memories of the show itself, but new songs and...

It wasn't until the end of season 1 that a surprising fan favorite emerged from the sprawling "Yellowjackets" cast: Jeff (Warren Kole), Shauna's mysterious, somewhat distant husband. Throughout the season, we thought Jeff was cheating on Shauna, which makes sense considering their relationship first began with Jeff cheating on Jackie.
It was only by the finale that we discovered the truth: Jeff wasn't cheating at all. He was simply blackmailing the surviving teammates in a scheme to bail out his failing furniture store. That sounds bad, but it's harmless compared to the secret Shauna reveals. Not only was she cheating on Jeff with another man, but she also just stabbed the man to death and needs help covering it all up. Worst of all, she's been lying about book club!
Since then, Jeff's revealed himself to be a ride-or-die husband, someone who's on board with covering up his wife's gruesome...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 8, “It Chooses.”]
“Does a hunt that have no violence feed anyone?”
That’s the question posed to Lottie (Simone Kessell) by her “therapist” — quickly revealed to be her subconscious — in “Yellowjackets” Season 2, Episode 7, the question whose answer and meaning reveal themselves in ghastly fashion in Episode 8, “It Chooses.” Not only are our survivors starved and delirious, but they now hunger as much for food as for fight to acquire it.
Directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer and written by Sarah L. Thompson & Liz Phang, “It Chooses” is littered with indicators of everyone reaching the end of their tether during the bleak midwinter. There is hunger, there is starvation, and then there is whatever this is; exhaustion, blurred vision, hallucinations of blood spilling from the walls, cradling your pet mouse corpse and being tempted to take a bite out of his emaciated body. Only Nat (Sophie Thatcher) says it,...

By their very nature, most survival thrillers are predicated on the suspense of whether characters will prevail against the forces of nature and ultimately live through their current scenario in the wild. Showtime's "Yellowjackets" is uniquely structured in this respect, since it toggles between teen and adult versions of the same characters in the past and present. It's never in question if central characters like Shauna, Taissa, Misty, Sophie, and now, Lottie and Van, will survive past youth. Instead, the viewer is left speculating about how they did so and what exactly they lived through in order to become the dysfunctional adults they are in the present.
In the case of teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), ever since the audience learned that she was pregnant, the mystery of what happened to her baby had also hung over "Yellowjackets." As of...

[This story contains spoilers from the seventh episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Burial.”]
Sunshine Honey’s Wellness Community is opening its doors to Yellowjackets viewers.
The Showtime series launched a stunt in the seventh episode of its second season, but only a viewer with citizen detective skills at the level of Walter (Elijah Wood) and Misty could have spotted it.
In the episode, titled “Burial,” the adult main cast of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), Natalie (Juliette Lewis), Misty (Christina Ricci), Taissa (Tawny Cypress) and Van (Lauren Ambrose) finally reunite onscreen after a season spent apart when they arrive at the wilderness compound run by their fellow 1996 plane crash survivor, Lottie (Simone Kessell). The prior episode ended with all of the survivors laying eyes on Lottie, as the camera panned out to reveal that the infamous symbol at the center of the show (one promoted by Lottie as her spiritual power appears to grow stronger in the wilderness) is etched out in the grounds.

“The thing I love the most about playing Misty is that she’s really somebody who has accepted the fact that she’s never going to be accepted,” says Emmy-nominated “Yellowjackets” star Christina Ricci. “She still has those compulsions that she cannot ignore. The compulsive need to try to be accepted. The compulsive need to go after someone and see if they will be her friend. But I think deep down she understands who she is and the position that she’s been given. Because of that, I don’t think she really understands societal norms.” Watch our video interview above.
Season 2 of “Yellowjackets” is currently airing on Showtime. Ricci’s role as Misty Quigley earned her a Best Supporting Actress Emmy nomination last year. It was one of seven bids for the series including Best Drama Series.

In season one of "Yellowjackets," fans were shocked to learn that Shauna (Sophie Nélisse as a teen and Melanie Lynskey as an adult), while trapped with her teammates in the woods, is pregnant. Before leaving on what was meant to be a trip to nationals, she had sex multiple times with Jeff, the boyfriend of her best friend Jackie (Ella Purnell). In the present day, Jeff (played by Warren Kole as an adult) and Shauna are married and have a teen daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins). But Callie was born in 2004, so fans always knew she wasn't the baby Shauna is pregnant with in the woods in 1996. It takes 19 months for the Yellowjackets to be saved, so fans also knew Shauna was no longer pregnant when the rescue finally happened. In episode six, released May 5 on streaming, viewers finally learn the baby's sad fate.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 6, “Qui.”]
“Yellowjackets” may be a twisted TV drama, but it’s tough to build a case that it pulls the rug out from under its audience. More often than not, things go how you’d expect them to, in a world where the ultimate twist is the one taken by fate when a flight crashed in the Canadian wilderness. Everything that follows, tragic as it is, has an inevitable kind of logic to it.
Episode 6, “Qui,” directed by Liz Garbus and written by Karen Joseph Adcock & Ameni Rozsa, is a crystal clear reminder of that. Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) is in labor, and the inevitability of her pregnancy brings a fierce reality check crashing down on the cabin. It ends up being a checkpoint, revealing every character’s truth in how they respond to the situation. Surprisingly, Misty (Samantha Hanratty) panics; as much as Hanratty embodies a smart little sociopath,...

Episode six of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Qui,” makes for one of the most significant “do not miss” episodes of television this year. Now firmly into the back half of the second season, “Qui” takes massive strides in converging plotlines in the present while wreaking utter emotional devastation in the past. More impressive is the way this episode serves as a showcase for powerhouse performances across the ensemble cast.
“Qui” resumes the terrible timing of teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) going into labor. The good news is that the complete inexperience, shock, and anxiety over bringing a baby into this world primarily unites the group as they frantically try to help Shauna. The bad news is that they depended on Misty (Samantha Hanratty) to act as a midwife, but the first sign of blood sends her reeling over her accidental murder of Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman). The volume of blood Shauna’s losing worries everyone,...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Yellowjackets."
Shauna Sadecki (Melanie Lynskey) never wanted kids. She confesses as much in the centerpiece scene of this week's episode of "Yellowjackets," a powerful monologue from Lynskey in a season that's been in part built around powerful monologues from Lynskey. Shauna never wanted a family, she says, but she loves them despite herself. In the context of this, the most heartbreaking episode of the show to date, it's impossible not to think of her first child here, who we now know was stillborn in the wilderness.
Yet when Shauna speaks to the police with obvious warmth in her voice, making it clear that she's happy as a mom despite her instincts screaming otherwise, it's not the baby who comes to mind, but Callie (Sarah Desjardins). Callie, who just lied to a cop in one of the show's most hilarious and darkly satisfying scenes yet.

The writers behind Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” had a very brief time back in the beehive.
The team behind the mystery thriller paused work for Season 3 following the commencement of the Writers Guild of America’s strike — after beginning the writer’s room of the season just the day before.
Ashley Lyle, who created the acclaimed show with her husband Bart Nickerson and co-showruns with him and Jonathan Lisco, shared that the writer’s room would pause work on Monday night, following the WGA’s official announcement of a work stoppage, after meeting for the first time earlier that day.
“Well, we had exactly one day in the ‘YellowJackets’ S3 writers’ room,” Lyle wrote on Twitter. “It was amazing, and creatively invigorating, and so much fun, and I’m very excited to get back to it as soon as the WGA gets a fair deal. #1u #unionstrong.”
IndieWire has reached out to Lyle for comment.

“Yellowjackets” earned seven Emmy nominations for its first season and stands to perform even better this time around. Ardent supporters within the television academy who want the show to compete in as high a number of categories as possible have a trio of viable Drama Supporting Actor candidates to back. The top 10 is currently swarming with names from “Succession,” “The White Lotus: Sicily” and “House of the Dragon.” As of now, “Yellowjackets” trails all three for Best Drama Series but only by a relative handful of users. Emmy voters haven’t been shy about promoting their favorites in the past; a restricted ballot can only effect so much change. If Showtime’s hit thriller is the awards juggernaut some are saying it’ll pan out to be, the show could sneak at least one of three male cast members – Elijah Wood, Warren Kole and Steven Krueger – into the race.

The second season of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” begins as winter finally envelops the Canadian Rockies and visits greater misery upon Wiskayok High’s girls soccer team. For the hit survival thriller’s costume department, though, it comes bearing a shot at an Emmy.
“Yellowjackets,” seventh in our combined Drama Series odds and clawing its way toward the top five, follows the aforementioned regional champions after the plane carrying them to nationals crashes in the wilderness, as well as their dysfunctional adult lives back in society two and a half decades later. The verdant setting to which they’d acclimated in Season 1 has become a gnarled, frostbitten Neverland. Amy Parris (“Stranger Things”), taking over for Emmy-winning costume designer Marie Schley (“Transparent”), rises to the creative challenge with striking designs that approximate what wardrobes for retro genre hits like “The Goonies” and “The Breakfast Club” would look like in an A24-produced folk horror.

Sarah Desjardins had the enormous good luck — and talent — to land on two of the hottest TV shows in a row: She plays Callie, the daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), on the hit Showtime series “Yellowjackets,” and was also Maddie, the kidnapped daughter of the vice president, on the Netflix thriller “Night Agent.”
“Yeah, pinch me. I’m very grateful,” said the 28-year-old actress, who can convincingly play 19 or younger. She spoke to TheWrap ahead of “Yellowjackets” Episode 6, which premieres on Showtime streaming Friday and airs Sunday on Showtime.
“It’s just so funny how the timing worked out, that I filmed the shows six months apart, but they came out, like, a day apart. You never know how that’s gonna pan out, but yeah, it’s very awesome,” she said.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 5, “Two Truths and a Lie.”]
Faith can be an interesting thing. In religion, it offers many people comfort and purpose; an explanation for how the world works and a framework with which to live a meaningful life.
Then there is the other kind of faith: Trust. Where religious faith is mostly internal, trusting a person, idea, or institution depends as much on the recipient as on the believer. When you lose faith in someone, it’s because of something they did.
Both types of faith feature prominently in “Yellowjackets” Season 2, Episode 5, “Two Truths and a Lie,” written by Sarah L. Thompson and Katherine Kearns and directed by Ben Semanoff. As storylines explore the companionship and community based on trust, the title invokes a secret third thing: trust betrayed, and its dire consequences in this series. [This story contains spoilers from the fifth episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Two Truths and a Lie.”]
An enjoyable addition to Yellowjackets for season two has been the arrival of Elijah Wood’s Walter. The oddball citizen detective has served as the perfect foil to Christina Ricci’s Misty in the present-day timeline of the Showtime series, as is exemplified by the game of Two Truths and a Lie that he insists Misty play while the pair road trip together in hopes of saving her friend Natalie (Juliette Lewis), who they believe has been abducted by the cult led by fellow plane crash survivor Lottie (Simone Kessell).
When playing the game, Walter breaks the rules by listing three truths. “Now you know a little more about me,” he says, after sharing that he owned an artisanal goat cheese business with a goat named Billy, that there’s a “non-zero chance” Barry Manilow is his biological father and that he...

In Showtime's "Yellowjackets," the dream of '90s alt-rock is alive and well and snacking on a human ear in the Canadian wilderness. You could draw up a playlist for this show and it would be like tuning into your local alternative station, back when FM radio was more of a thing, too. For Warren Kole, who plays Jeff Sadecki, husband of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), there's one song, however, that was nothing if not an acquired taste.
We're talking about Papa Roach's "Last Resort." It would be unfair to call Papa Roach a one-hit wonder, since they've had six songs make the Billboard Hot 100 chart over the course of their illustrious nu-metal career, but for casual fans of a certain age, "Last Resort" is undoubtedly the band's best-known song. For his part, Kole would not even qualify as a casual fan, since he had never heard the song before...

This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2, episode 1.
If you watched "Yellowjackets" season 1, I doubt your favorite character was Callie Sadecki (Sarah Desjardins). The teenage daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) and Jeff (Warren Kole), she didn't have much personality beyond stereotypical "spoiled teenage daughter" character tropes. Callie's most memorable scene in season 1 was at her expense; in episode 5, "Blood Hive," Callie discovers her mom is cheating on her dad with Adam (Peter Gadiot). Callie tries to blackmail Shauna by threatening to tell Jeff, only to back down once Shauna explains how ruinous a divorce would be for Callie.
Shauna's affair with Adam ended with her murdering him. Now this season, she and Jeff (who is standing by her after several mutual misunderstandings) are trying to keep the crime covered up. Callie has been suspicious since she saw a missing person's report on Adam and grows even more distant from her parents.

This article contains spoilers through the latest episode of Yellowjackets
Yellowjackets has been doing deep-cut needledrops since before Stranger Things season 4 made it cool. While the series certainly leans into the late ’90s setting of the plane crash flashbacks for much of its music (as it should), the present day timeline keeps the series from feeling too limited in its scope of song choices. Yellowjackets is one of the few shows that could pull off having songs from Papa Roach and Sharon Van Etten in the same episode without it being too distracting. Instead, this eclectic mix of music shows that the music supervisor and showrunners know how important the right song is to the story.
Yellowjackets may cover heavy things like trauma and cannibalism, but that doesn’t mean that its soundtrack can’t be full of bops and bangers, including the title sequence song “No Return” by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren.

Today at Deadline’s Contenders TV, Yellowjackets‘ Sophie Nélisse was asked if we can expect the Showtime series’ young leads to make it out of the woods any time soon.
“Not just yet. It’s all downhill from here,” said the actress, who plays pregnant teenage plane crash survivor, Shauna. “Like, it doesn’t get any better. It just gets worse. Sorry.”

That sound you hear is Melanie Lynskey getting Emmy buzz for her killer — and arguably series-best — turn in “Digestif,” the third episode of the second season of “Yellowjackets.”
In the episode, which aired on linear Showtime on April 9, Shauna (Lynskey) and Jeff (Warren Kole) get carjacked on their way to Colonial Williamsburg. When their attacker holds them at gunpoint and demands they hand over the keys to their minivan, Jeff is ready to do whatever it takes to defuse the situation. But Shauna has other intentions. She wrestles the gun away from the assailant, warns him not to get into the car and is seemingly just seconds away from shooting him. Before she can do anything, however, Jeff pulls her away, allowing the carjacker to drive off with their van.

Seven-time Grammy winner Alanis Morissette has released the new single, “No Return” (Extended Version), a reworked version of Yellowjackets’ main title theme song. Morissette’s new take on the theme, written by Yellowjackets composers Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker, debuted in the fourth episode of the series’ second season. You can listen to it above.
“I love the original version of “No Return,”said Morissette. “It’s just a perfect song. It was a little daunting to be asked to reinterpret it but I see parallels between Yellowjackets and my perspective while songwriting: the sheer intensity, that going for the jugular with no fear around going for the profane.” She added: “I’ve strived my entire career to support the empowerment of women and sensitives, and see the world through the female lens, and what’s so wonderful about this show is that each character is allowed to be dynamic...

While the promise of mysteries, criminal activity, cannibalism, and a story of survival may have gotten most "Yellowjackets" viewers in the door, it has been the complex, fascinating characters that keep folks coming back each week. The major characters of Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, and Van have given us two different timelines to become our beloved favorites, but there are plenty of supporting characters that audiences can't get enough of, and I'm not just talking about their teammates in the cabin.
It's sincerely impressive that "Yellowjackets," a show that prioritizes the stories of women above all else, managed to make a legion of fans (many of whom are queer) become obsessively protective of Shauna's himbo wifeguy Jeff (Warren Kole). And of course, who could forget the consistent comedic relief that comes from a character like Randy (Jeff Holman), the words of wisdom...

[This story contains spoilers from the third episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Digestif.”]
There’s a moment in the latest episode of Yellowjackets when Jeff (Warren Kole) asks Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) a question that he doesn’t want the answer to.
“How the heck did the van get back?”
The third episode of the hit Showtime series followed up on several story threads for the adult characters following the shocking cannibal feast in the past timeline. That moment, which saw the crash survivors eating their dead teammate Jackie in hopes of surviving a bleak winter in the wilderness, is among the many sources of trauma that the adult characters are seen living with in the show’s present-day timeline, and none more so than adult Shauna.
The season two episode “Digestif” (which refers to needing help to digest a big meal), was written by Rich Monahan, Sarah L. Thompson and Ameni Rozsa and directed by Jeffrey W. Byrd. When...

This post contains spoilers for this week’s Yellowjackets. Proceed accordingly.
It’s early yet in Yellowjackets‘ second season, but we’d like to nominate “I could’ve gone strawberry” — uttered by Jeff in this week’s episode — as a strong contender for our second favorite line said by Shauna’s bewildered husband. (Because, c’mon, it’s not likely that anything will top Season 1’s “There’s no book club?!“)

Warning: Spoilers for Yellowjackets season 2, up to episode three, “Digestif,” written by Sarah L. Thompson & Ameni Rozsa and directed by Jeffrey W. Byrd.
Now that Yellowjackets has returned with season 2, there’s been a renewed search for answers to the biggest questions about the show, including everything from when the young survivors will become cannibals in the past to what’s going on with Adult Lottie (Simone Kessell) in the present.
While at its core, the Showtime drama is about what happened to a group of teenagers after a plane crash stranded them in the wilderness for 19 months and how a few of the grownup survivors are reckoning with the secrets that amassed both then and now, it’s a puzzle box series that introduces new pieces with each episode.

[Editor's Note: This post contains spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 2, Episode 3, "Digestif."]
Like the headstrong teenage girls at its center, Yellowjackets refuses to be put into just one box. The Showtime series is at once a survival drama (complete with beautifully-depicted cannibalism scenes), a supernatural thriller, a poignant romance, and thanks to the addition of characters like Jeff (Warren Kole) — who delivers Season 1's most memorable line read upon learning that "there's no book club" — a character comedy. "Digestif," the third episode of Season 2, adds another genre to the mix: For eight glorious minutes, Yellowjackets becomes a detective caper, as Misty (Christina Ricci) and fellow online investigator Walter (Elijah Wood) embark upon a covert mission to interrogate a "witness" about her missing friend Natalie (Juliette Lewis).

Season 2 of Showtime’s hit genre series “Yellowjackets” is ready for another dance at this year’s Emmys, after premiering to critical acclaim and record-breaking numbers for the network. The plans for the acting submissions have changed slightly from the first season, Variety has learned exclusively.
Breakout star Sophie Nélisse, who plays the teenage version of Shauna, will now join her adult counterpart Melanie Lynskey in the lead actress drama category, with hopes of landing a nomination. The pair will be joined by co-stars Tawny Cypress and Juliette Lewis, who portray the adult version of their characters, Taissa and Natalie, respectively.
The thriller show tells the story of a girls’ soccer team as they struggle to survive in the woods following their plane crashing while on their way to a tournament. The tale flashes back and forth between two periods: One, the aftermath of a crash, with the surviving members fending for themselves; the other,...

With two-time Best Drama Actress Emmy winner and reigning 2022 champ, Zendaya (“Euphoria”), out of contention, this year’s race is wide open. The early leader in our overall odds is Melanie Lynskey, who plays adult Shauna in the Showtime series “Yellowjackets.” If she prevails, she will become just the second winner for the network in this category, following Claire Danes who won for “Homeland” in 2012 and 2013.
“Yellowjackets” tells the story of a wildly talented high school girls soccer team that becomes the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Canadian wilderness. With dueling timelines that show the characters in the past and present day, the series made an impressive first showing at last year’s Emmys, earning seven bids including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actress for Lynskey.
