Exclusive: Paramount Players prevailed in an auction for Quinceanerx, an original pitch for a musical that Kevin Lima will direct with script by Alvaro Garcia Lecuona, who is writing What If for Billy Porter to direct at Orion.
Here’s the logline for a musical that sounds as original as it is inclusive. Xavier is gender fluid and uses they/them pronouns. In a world where everyone sees them as male, including their mom, a traditional celebration of femininity like quinceanera means everything to this 14 year old and a female cousin enlisted to help. Planning in secret, they hatch a roguish plot to switch places and give Xavier the celebration they deserve. The plan is complicated by fretting Latina mothers, teen crushes and the arrival of a famous father, and Xavier must decide who they want to be, whether or not the world is ready to accept that answer.

Adam Venit, the longtime talent agent and an architect of Endeavor and Wme’s movie businesses, is retiring on Monday. Venit told his close colleagues and clients yesterday that he has made the decision to retire, and he is transitioning a stellar list of stars and filmmakers to others at Wme, a list that includes Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Shawn Levy, Dustin Hoffman, Eddie Murphy, Michael B. Jordan, Vince Vaughn, M. Night Shyamalan and Marc Forster.
His final months as an agent included becoming mired in the #MeToo controversy after former Wme client Terry Crews claimed that the agent groped him at a party. Venit apologized, but Crews was steadfast and has become a forceful voice in that victims don’t necessarily have to be women. Being drawn into that narrative certainly dampened the spirit of Venit, who was temporarily suspended and stripped of his title as head of Wme’s Motion Picture Group.

There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Draft Day – about the day in the life of a fictitious Buffalo Bills Gm appears to currently be in turnaround — which only means I expect to see this greenlight perhaps a little later than sooner – worth noting: top spot almost guarantees that the film will indeed go into production (2006, 2010 and 2011 are the exceptions.) With Desperate Housewives quickly coming to an end, Eva Longoria will be returning to work with ABC, ABC Studios, and Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry for a new pilot called Devious Maids. It’s nice to see she would rather stick with the people she knows than move on to a new project at another network. The best part of this story is Longoria will not be starring in the pilot. She is on board solely as an executive producer.
As reported by Deadline, this is Longoria’s first time as an exec producer on a pilot, so what better way to try out a new job then by working with people you are already familiar with, like Cherry? The pilot is being written by Cherry and is based on the Mexican format. It will follow the lives of four maids, played by Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, and Judy Reyes.

While Desperate Housewives is coming to an end, star Eva Longoria is staying in business with ABC, ABC Studios and Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. Longoria is joining the ABC/ABC Studios pilot Devious Maids, which like Desperate Housewives is a soap with four female leads, as an executive producer. Written by Cherry based on the Mexican format, Devious Maids follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Longoria will executive produce alongside Cherry, Sabrina Wind, Paul Presburger, David Lonner, Larry Shuman, John Mass and Michael Garcia. In addition to her acting career, Longoria, repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment and attorney Brad Small, has been active behind the camera as a producer, setting several series projects over the past few years though her company Unbelievable Entertainment. This marks the...

Exclusive: Top literary managers David Lonner and Larry Shuman are in serious talks to merge their companies, Oasis Media Group and The Shuman Co, respectively. In the scenario being discussed, Shuman and Lonner and his Oasis partner John Mass would join forces under the Oasis umbrella, tied to an effort to secure financing to expand the business. If it closes, the merger would bring under the same roof such feature and TV heavyweights as Jj Abrams, Brad Silberling, Jon Turteltaub, Shawn Ryan and David Shore. While 2-year-old Oasis has some TV clients — crossover A-lister Abrams and ER and Detroit 1-8-7 showrunner David Zabel — the company skews heavily towards features with a client list that includes Abrams, Silberling, Turteltaub, Peter Sollett, Michael Tolkin, Audrey Wells and Rob Minkoff. Meanwhile, Shuman, who has run his boutique company for 20 years, has a TV-heavy roster that includes House creator Shore, The Shield creator Ryan,...

From four desperate housewives on Wisteria Lane to a quartet of devious maids in Beverly Hills: Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has set up a new hourlong soap at ABC. Titled Devious Maids, it is an adaptation of the Mexican telenovela The Disorderly Maids Of The Neighborhood. The Televisa format was identified by former Wma executive John Mass and manager-producers Larry Shuman and David Lonner, who then took it to Cherry. Cherry will write the script and executive produce with his Cherry/Wind Prods partner Sabrina Wind as well as Oasis Media Group’s Lonner and Mass and The Shuman Co.’s Shuman. ABC Studios is producing. The ABC series will be loosely based on the Televisa format and will center on four Latina women who are maids in Beverly Hills. The original, which is prepping its second season, revolves around five housekeepers — Silvia, Maribel, Adela, Guillermina and Carmela — who...

Agents at CAA, Icm and UTA are making no bones about the potential to profit from the infighting and departures.
By Lauren Horwitch
While the power players at William Morris and Endeavor celebrated the creation of Wme on Tuesday, their rivals were doing what agents do best: lick their chops.
Their colleagues at CAA, Icm and UTA are making no bones about the potential to profit from the in-fighting and departures.
Right away, certain agents are in play. On Monday David Lonner and Tom Strickler opted out of the new regime. On Tuesday, Endeavor's literary agent Brian Lipson and Wma literary agent Richard Knapp made known their intentions to do the same.

Endeavor and the William Morris Agency agreed Monday afternoon to a merger that dramatically redraws the map for Hollywood's talent agencies.
WMA's 20-person board and Endeavor's 28 partners, in separate meetings, approved the deal, the largest combination of two existing agencies in Hollywood history. While things will not be finalized for several weeks as regulatory approvals are sought, the stage already is set for fresh upheaval as rival agencies attempt to lure agents and clients away from the new combine.
The new agency will operate under the moniker William Morris Endeavor (WME) Entertainment, preserving the venerable William Morris name that has become synonymous with repping talent while giving Endeavor room in the spotlight. It will position itself as a challenger to dominant industry agency CAA.

In a move that recognizes the increasing frequency with which talent moves between the film and TV worlds, WMA has reorganized its departmental operations by merging the television talent department and motion picture talent department into one unit. The management and structural changes were announced Thursday by Dave Wirtschafter, WMA worldwide head of motion pictures. While other agencies often hold joint talent meetings and have specific crossover agents, WMA is the first major agency to group its film and TV talent agents under one umbrella. Four agents -- David Lonner, Danny Greenberg, Gaby Morgerman and Erwin More -- were promoted as part of the reorganization. Lonner will join John Fogelman as co-head of WMA's motion picture department, overseeing all of its daily activities. Greenberg has been named head of the motion picture literary department, and Morgerman and More will team to oversee the combined talent department. The changes are effective immediately.
