British telecommunications regulator Ofcom has sent a formal warning to news and commentary channel Talk TV urging producers to curb the airing of potentially-offensive material on television.
The warning comes after Ofcom received more than 17,000 viewer complaints following an interview conducted by Julia Hartley-Brewer in which she scolded a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council for interrupting her.
“Maybe you’re not used to women talking, I don’t know, but I’d like to finish the sentence,” Hartley-Brewer curtly told Dr. Mustafa Barghouti during the January 3 interview aired on Talk TV. She concluded the Interview by saying, “sorry to have been a woman speaking to you, but there you are.”
Ofcom said many of the complaints appeared to be “motivated by Dr. Barghouti’s religion or ethnicity,” and that it wouldn’t...

Rupert Murdoch’s TalkTV is going online-only two years after launching with fanfare and following the suit of its star presenter Piers Morgan.
“Two years ago, we would not have been brave enough to launch a channel without a linear presence, but audiences of all ages have moved fast and smartphones are now the primary device where news is consumed,” said a note to staff from TalkTV-owner News UK’s Broadcasting President Scott Taunton, reported by Guido Fawkes. “We need to adapt to this as a priority. We are therefore intending that Talk comes off linear television from early summer and our focus will be on streaming.”
Linear TV has been “a good marketing and awareness window” for TalkTV but investment needs to be focused “where the eyeballs are,” added Taunton.
The news won’t come as a huge surprise to keen followers of the British media landscape following Morgan...

Nadine Dorries, a polarizing former culture secretary for Britain, is set to host a new Friday night talk show on conservative channel TalkTV.
Debuting on Feb. 3, Dorries, who is still a member of parliament (MP), will kick off her show with an exclusive one-on-one interview with former prime minister Boris Johnson, who resigned last July after a string of scandals.
Dorries was an ardent supporter of Johnson’s, and stuck by his side when most of the Pm’s former ministers had condemned his actions around “partygate” — a series of parties held at Downing Street during Britain’s lockdowns.
The weekly, hour-long show will be called “Friday Night with Nadine,” and is billed as an “irreverent look at the week’s news and a lively mix of topical chat with guests from the world of politics, culture and sport.”
Dorries’ time as culture secretary was fraught with a series of gaffes.

Following Andrew Tate’s arrest, Julia Hartley-Brewer is being mocked after recently stating that she would choose Tate’s life over that of Greta Thunberg.
The British radio presenter and journalist waded into the online feud between Tate and Thunberg that began this wek.
Tate – a 36-year-old former kickboxer and online personality notorious for his misogynistic views – recently engaged Thunberg, 19, in a Twitter feud.
The spat resulted in a brutal clapback from Thunberg, which has since been hailed as the best Twitter moment of 2022.
Tate responded to her response with a video of himself smoking a cigar and wearing a red dressing gown. In the clip – which was branded by Twitter users as “pure cringe” – he claims that the climate activist was referring to herself in her retort to him.
While many people on Twitter shared their support for Thunberg and applauded her response, Hartley-Brewer, 54, controversially backed Tate with a...

BBC Two’s new primetime Sunday night drama, Sas Rogue Heroes, will follow the adrenaline-fuelled origins of the Sas during the Second World War.
Written and directed by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, and based on bestselling author Ben Macintyre’s book, Sas Rogue Heroes stars Jack O’Connell, Alfie Allen and Connor Swindells as the fearless real-life soldiers who formed the Special Forces unit.
Knight, meanwhile, previously shared that he had to tone down the script to make the true tories of the war heroes seem more plausible, with the series carrying a disclaimer that the events in the show “seem most unbelievable” but “are mostly true”.
Macintyre told The Times that the new TV adaptation of his book has a “rocking modern soundtrack, gripping action and some superb individual performances”.

Meghan Markle has proven time and time again that everything she does, she does with a purpose, and her plan to vote in this year's presidential election is no different. The Duchess of Sussex hopes to make her voice heard when she casts her ballot come November, and she's also been using her platform to mobilize others to do the same, which is just one of the many things I admire about her. "We vote to honor those who came before us and to protect those who will come after us," Meghan recently said during When We All Vote's virtual #CouchParty event. "Exercising your right to vote isn't simply being part of a solution, it's being part of a legacy."
Despite the fact that Meghan is no longer a senior royal (she and Prince Harry officially stepped down on March 31), her family's order of precedence remains the same,...

A post shared by Vanity Fair (@vanityfair) on Feb 28, 2017 at 10:02am Pst Emma Watson recently debuted her March Vanity Fair cover, and as always, she looks absolutely stunning. In addition to wearing an off-the-shoulder white gown on the cover, a photo from the inside spread features the Beauty and the Beast actress posing topless except for a see-through bolero jacket (which you can see above). Typical fashion magazine stuff, nothing to see here, right? Wrong. The image quickly drew the attention of tabloids - like The Sun, which published an article titled "Beauty and the Breasts" - as well as radio host Julia Hartley-Brewer, who apparently could not handle the idea of a 26-year-old woman making a decision about her own body, tweeting, "Emma Watson: 'Feminism, feminism... gender wage gap... why oh why am I not taken seriously... feminism... oh, and here are my tits!'" The outspoken...

Emma Watson is slamming critics who suggested that posing with her breasts partially exposed for a recent Vanity Fair photo shoot was hypocritical of her feminist views.
The Beauty and the Beast star, 26, sat down with Reuters to address to controversy, stating that feminism was all about choice.
“It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is,” said the Un Women Goodwill Ambassador and pioneer of the #HeForShe campaign. “Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom,...

Author and columnist Owen Jones stormed off the set of British series Sky News after he clashed with host Mark Longhurtst over the importance of the Lgbt aspect in Sunday's mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando. In a video from the broadcast, The Guardian, Jones first argues with Longhurst about the significance of homosexuality in the tragic massacre, telling the host that the incident has "to be called out for what it is - an intentional attack on Lgbt people." Longhurst then chimes in, telling Jones that the shooting is actually an "attack on the freedom of all...
