Amy Schumer booked a recognizable psychic for the second season of her Hulu series Life & Beth.
As the trailer revealed, Jennifer Coolidge makes a cameo in Schumer’s follow-up season. And now a new clip, dropped on Thursday, shows nearly two minutes of the anticipated scene, which comes in the third episode of the 10-episode season, which releases in full on Thursday.
Playing a New Orleans psychic named Madame de Merde, the Emmy-winning White Lotus actress has been booked for a reading by Beth (Schumer), who brings another season two guest character — played by Amy Sedaris — along for the appointment. As the teaser shows, however, Beth doesn’t exactly get a good vibe during their introduction.

Tim Robinson, a cult figure amongst comedians and comedy fans, has his second Emmy of the year for his Netflix series I Think You Should Leave.
After winning the award for Outstanding Actor In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series at yesterday’s event, the second time that he has won that award, he has now won the award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series.

Irony Point co-founders Daniel Powell and Alex Bach have specialized in producing hit comedy series such as “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Life With Beth” and “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” but their podcasting-focused sister company Radio Point lets them branch out into new genres and develop proof of concepts for future TV productions.

More details are being revealed about HBO’s upcoming comedy series Little Films (wt) from former Los Espookys star and Saturday Night Live writer Julio Torres. Production is set to begin in February on the series that was given a green light earlier this year as part of Torres’ first-look deal with HBO and HBO Max
The six-episode half-hour comedy series is created, written, starring, directed and executive produced by Torres, and produced by Irony Point, Fruit Tree and 3 Arts.
An expanded logLine reveals the NYC setting of the comedy series. In Little Films (wt) Julio (Torres) tells the tale of when he lost a little golden oyster. The people he encounters as he searches for it, and the musings he has along the way, become points of departure for introspective, often eerie comedic stories about outsiders navigating an increasingly corporate and rapidly dysfunctional New York City.
Additional casting will be announced.

The second season of the Max Original comedy sketch show “That Damn Michael Che” will debut on Thursday, May 26 with all six episodes, HBO announced on Tuesday.
In the trailer, also released on Tuesday, Che has to tell his “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update” co-host Colin Jost, who’s heading straight for the omelet bar, that he’s at an all-Black breakfast event.
Each episode focuses on a single topical theme, like religion. In the clip, Che is less than thrilled when the pilot (David Alan Grier) on his flight instructs everyone to say, “Jesus, take the wheel.” “Shouldn’t the pilot be taking the wheel?” the comic asks his seatmate.
As Che also tells his audience during a stand-up routine, “Talking to god is like getting your therapist’s answering machine. Hey god, it’s me again. I don’t know if you’re getting these.”

Tim Robinson’s beloved sketch comedy show “I Think You Should Leave” has been renewed for Season 3 at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.
Cast member Sam Richardson told Variety that the team was in the process of writing the third season in early March. It is unclear when Season 3 will debut, as well as how many episodes it will contain. If one thing’s for sure, there will be more memes (and hopefully more hot dogs).
“I’m not sure when they’ll start filming,” said Richardson, who appeared in both seasons of the Netflix show. “But there are funny sketches coming already, I can tell you that much.”
“I Think You Should Leave” is created by Robinson and Zach Kanin. Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone (The Lonely Island) and Ali Bell executive produce for Party Over Here, alongside Alex Bach and Dan Powell for Irony Point, and Alice Mathias.

Irony Point might not have wide name recognition just yet, but its projects, which include Netflix’s WGA Award-winning “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” and Marvel’s new scripted “Squirrel Girl” podcast, are attracting the attention of high-profile backers.
The banner, now almost 12 months into a three-year overall deal with Netflix, is headed by co-presidents Alex Bach and Daniel Powell. Their little company also has partnered with Endeavor Content and Broadway Video on recent projects.
Endeavor Content, Irony Point’s collaborator on Hulu dramedy “Life & Beth,” is a “behemoth” operating “in a budget space that we’ve previously not even come close to,” Powell tells Variety. “Being partners with them as the studio really allowed us to have our first experience in what I’d say is a different league, but one that we hope to continue in.”

When it comes to living in New York City, few things are as scary as real estate. But in Netflix’s “Archive 81,” premiering January 14 on the streamer, it’s not the rent or the rodents that terrify. It’s “pioneers of the imagination,” according to the trailer.
At least, that’s the impression given in the series’ first trailer. Based on the three-season podcast of the same name, the upcoming horror thriller finds a video archivist Dan (Mamoudou Athie) attempting to restore VHS tapes damaged in a fire. And as everyone from “The Ring” to “V/H/S/” knows, there’s nothing more frightening than what lies on analog.
Sure enough, Dan is able to restore some tapes just enough to become enmeshed in documentarian Melody’s 1994 exploration of a NYC apartment building, where some very strange things are happening, including mask-wearing, modern dance, and some very scary tenant meetings. Not...

Exclusive: Dan Fogler’s graphic novel series Moon Lake is getting the TV treatment as Heavy Metal Studios teams with Irony Point’s Daniel Powell and Rick and Morty animation studio Bardel Entertainment for an animated series adaptation of Folger’s work.

I’ll take snarky comments for $100. That’s the attitude displayed so far by Hollywood reactions to the news that Mike Richards has stepped down as the host of Jeopardy! after one show.
Richards, a controversial choice ever since he was announced as the host that would replace longtime face of the show Alex Trebek, decided today to step down and reopen the search for a new host. That’s after a devastating expose of past sexist and off-color comments made during a podcast some seven years ago left his position untenable. He will stay on as the show’s executive producer.
The online world gave him a hearty and unsentimental send-off today after the news broke, including a dig by former Jeopardy! champion James Holzhauer. But at least one celebrity (a former tryout for the show hosting duties) found a reason to smile.
A few of the comments:

Exclusive: First Look Media’s streaming service Topic has acquired North American rights to the Argentinian film Noemí Gold, written, produced and directed by Dan Rubenstein who also stars. The drama has set to debut on streaming on November 19.
Noemí Gold follows the titular character Noemí Goldberg who, after experiencing what she believes to be an allergic reaction to Misoprostol (commonly known as the abortion pill), seeks out the help of a gynecologist, who promptly reports her to the police. Since attempted abortion is not a prosecutable offense in Argentina, she is not charged with any crime. However, to her dismay, she’s still pregnant. This news coincides with the arrival of Noemí’s estranged cousin from Los Angeles, a social media influencer with millions of followers and dubious talent. With little support from her scatter-brained roommate and self-involved circle of friends, Noemí has only herself to rely on while navigating her present straits.

Loosely inspired by the found footage horror podcast of the same name, “Archive 81” hails from writer, showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine. The series will star Mamoudou Athie, who is among the cast for “Jurassic World: Dominion,” and “Altered Carbon” alumna Dina Shihabi.
Here’s the logline for the new Netflix show: When archivist Dan Turner (Athie) takes a mysterious job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994, he finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras (Shihabi) and her investigation into a dangerous cult. As Dan is drawn into Melody’s story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.

Right now might not be the best time to cancel a sketch-comedy series led by black comedians, but that’s clearly not enough to stop Netflix, who recently confirmed that they would not be renewing Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show for a second season.
The 6-episode series which premiered last December is only the latest show from a noticeably African American creative team canceled by the streaming giant. Previous examples include Turn Up Charlie created by and starring Idris Elba and Tuca & Bertie starring Tiffany Haddish, who also served as executive producer.
Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show came from Kenya Barris of Black-ish fame as part of a $100 million development deal alongside writer and director Daniel Powell, who’s most known for producing comedic series like Ugly Americans and Inside Amy Schumer. The show stars the titular comedy troupe, the first all-black team from the famous Upright Citizens Brigade, and...

Exclusive: The team behind Netflix’s Astronomy Club are moving onward and upward following the cancellation of their sketch comedy show and have partnered with The Problem With Apu producer Cowboy Bear Ninja on a new project.
The comedy troupe are developing Sherlock Homies, a comedy series that they describe as Curb Your Enthusiasm-meets-Reno 911 about Harlem’s first all-black detective agency.
The series is the brainchild of Shawtane Bowen, who is one of eight members of Astronomy Club, which also includes Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James III, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses, and Keisha Zollar.
Bowen said that the show was informed by living in Harlem for eight years. “I had a lot of interactions with the cops,” he told Deadline. “I thought it’d be interesting to do a show on Harlem’s first and last all black detective agency.”

James Wan, Netflix, horror – three words that are sure to excite anyone with a thirst for the paranormal.
Wan, whose credits include powerhouse franchises like Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring – the latter of which also spawned an entire mini-universe of its own – has joined forces with Netflix for a new series based on found-footage horror podcast Archive 81.
Discussing Film has the scoop (h/t Dread Central), confirming that James Wan will produce the spooky project alongside Rebecca Sonnenshine and Paul Harris Boardman. Daniel Powell and Marc Sollinger, the minds behind the Archive 81 podcast series, are also involved in a producing capacity.
In a nutshell, the found-footage audio saga chronicles the story of Dan, a solitary archivist who works at a remote facility where he has been tasked with cataloging hundreds of hours of old audiotape.
Meanwhile, the official logline gets very dark, very quickly…

The premiere of “Astronomy Club” is so dense with fully-formed jokes, wry social commentaries, and wild left turns that you’d be forgiven for wondering if you accidentally dropped into the show’s second season rather than its first. There are sketches about a life or death hair emergency, the chain reaction of biases of people sizing each other up from either side of a locked apartment building door, and a harrowing disaster from the perspective of its gingerbread-men victims. There’s one about a support group for Magical Negroes who can’t let go of their need to help white people (think Bagger Vance), and another about Robin Hood getting a lesson in the intersection between class and race when he tries to rob a wealthy black family. Throughout, there’s a faux MTV-style reality show starring the Astronomy Club itself. This first episode sets the standard for “Astronomy Club” as clever,...
