The first season of the Netflix anthology series Beef turned out to be a massive success by any metric.
The sort of buzzed-about prestige show that streamers have been seeking with increasing desperation in recent years, Beef was as big with critics and award committees as it was with subscribers.
While the series has yet to officially be renewed, the move is an inevitable no-brainer for Netflix.
Of course, the show will face the usual sophomore season challenges that accompany the anthology format.
We don't know much about how Beef will tackle those issues from a storytelling perspective.
But it looks like the bigwigs who control the purse strings are doing their part by going all-in on casting.

The first trailer for the final instalment in Sony Pictures' Venom trilogy, The Last Dance, was released yesterday, and while the footage didn't feature many major reveals, we did get confirmation that a villainous Symbiote teased in the previous movie will appear.
Towards the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, it was heavily implied that corrupt detective Pat Mulligan (Stephen Graham) had merged with a piece of the Carnage Symbiote. Mulligan returns in the trailer for The Last Dance, but the closed captions for the character's dialogue label him as Toxin.
"As long as Venom lives, everything, everyone will end," he says as the teaser cuts to shots of Venom in action.
It remains to be seen if Toxin is actually unleashed in this movie, but it would seem like an odd move to use the name in the subtitles if we weren't going to see Mulligan transform at least once.

The two-part season finale of Dropout’s hit game series “Game Changer,” originally scheduled to premiere on May 20, has been delayed “to allow for more time in the edit.”
On Monday, Sam Reich, host and Dropout CEO, announced on social media: “Scheduling Update: we’re pushing the 2-part Game Changer season finale to allow for more time in the edit. It’s one of the most complicated episodes we’ve ever done (you’ll see why). Part 1 will now launch on Dropout on June 3rd, and Part 2 on June 17th.”
Despite the delay, the sixth season, which featured seven episodes, surpasses the six-episode minimum requirement for submission for the outstanding game show category. According to current Emmy rules, the two-part finale will compete as part of the upcoming seventh season when it airs during the next eligibility window. This is consistent with other competition and game shows with multiple seasons competing as one,...

It’s the end of the world, and Mulligan has turned the apocalypse into one big joke.
Created by 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt alums Sam Means and Robert Carlock, the animated comedy series about Matty Mulligan — the everyman who becomes president after Earth is destroyed by aliens — is getting a Part 2. The upcoming 10 episodes include a party cruise ship full of new characters, lavish musical numbers, guest stars, and a newly invented meat substitute that takes on a (terrible) personality.
Means and Carlock are frequent collaborators of Tina Fey — who also happens to voice Dr. Farrah Braun, the last scientist on Earth — which means they’re experienced in packing half-hour episodes with jokes on jokes. “It’s the kind of show we’ve been writing for years — 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt, Great News,” says Means, “but with the palette and the scope that you can...

Indie streaming platform Dropout, formerly known as CollegeHumor, is vying for a spotlight at this year’s Primetime Emmys with an ambitious campaign to secure its first major nominations. With a passionate and niche audience, Variety has learned exclusively about Dropout’s top contenders submitted for Emmy love, including the innovative game show “Game Changer” and the unique interview series “Very Important People.”
“Game Changer,” a standout series hosted by Dropout CEO Sam Reich, turns the traditional game show format on its head. Each episode introduces a new game, but the twist is that the three comedian contestants are clueless about the rules until the game begins. The blend of improv comedy and fierce competition has not only captivated audiences but also spawned three successful spinoffs: “Dirty Laundry,” “Make Some Noise” and “Play It by Ear.”

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has seen its fair share of ups and downs. With their last big-budget endeavor, Madame Web, turning out to be a big disaster, all eyes are set on Venom, which has been quite profitable for the franchise so far. A threequel for the symbiote series is on the way, and the rumored plot might just turn a lot of heads.
Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man.
If we go by the rumored plot leak, the upcoming Venom 3 would introduce a Spider-Man in the symbiote universe for the first time. And not just any web-slinger, it is supposed to be Andrew Garfield’s version from The Amazing Spider-Man series.
SUGGESTEDSony Would Reportedly Rather Do No Way Home 2 Than The Amazing Spider-Man 3 With Andrew Garfield
Given the report is indeed true, it’ll have far-reaching consequences for the Ssu, and might serve as a revival point for the franchise.

The ride is as bumpy as the stock market is these days in “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.” A 23-years-on sequel to the still-entertaining original in which Michael Douglas created his signature role of Gordon Gekko, the new film initially takes good and opportunistic advantage of contemporary financial woes to detail the malfeascence of bankers and traders. But the script feels like a pasted-together hodgepodge of elements that co-exist without credibly blending together, topped by a climax that feels particularly hokey in its effort to leave audiences comfortable rather than disturbed by what they’ve just seen. It’s surprising for Oliver Stone to propagate an air of complacency about the financial state of things, but that’s the effect of the outrageously false feel-good ending. There are moments that bare more teeth than “W.” did, but they’re mostly in the first couple of reels.
