David Arquette and Elizabeth Marvel are set for recurring roles opposite Betty Gilpin and Jake McDorman in Mrs. Davis, Peacock’s new drama series written and executive produced by Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof. Additionally, Alethea Jones is set to executive produce and direct multiple episodes.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Mrs. Davis is described as an exploration of faith versus technology — an epic battle of biblical and binary proportions.
2022 Peacock Series & Pilot Orders
Gilpin plays a nun who goes to battle against an all-powerful Artificial Intelligence, and McDorman portrays Gilpin’s rebellious ex, who also has a personal vendetta against the Algorithm.
Additional cast includes Andy McQueen, Ben Chaplin and Margo Martindale.
In addition to co-writing and executive producing Mrs. Davis with Lindelof, Hernandez serves as showrunner. Eugene Kelly also executive produces. Owen Harris will direct and executive produce multiple episodes, including the first. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.
Arquette was most recently seen on the big screen in the Scream relaunch, reprising his role of Dewey Riley. He also recently appeared in the thriller Spree opposite Joe Keery, directed by Lucas Heyne. Arquette will next be seen in The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, and in Concourse Media’s drama On Sacred Ground. Arquette is repped by Innovative Artists and Lbi Entertainment.
Marvel most recently portrayed Noel Holmes in the Hulu limited series The Dropout. She’ll next be seen in the David E. Kelley and HBO Max limited series Love & Death, as well as in Warner Bros’ remake of The Color Purple. Marvel is repped by Innovative Artists and Viking Entertainment.

Every month there always seems to be a new horror anthology released and Tales From the Other Side is one of the latest. A very low budget one but that is something I’m used to and anthology horror is something I generally enjoy so I was happy to give this a go.
Featuring one wraparound segment and six ‘tales’ there’s plenty to see here. So let’s get straight into the first proper tale. ‘Petrified Boy’ at least starts off with some kind of creepy story about a touring circus and its main attraction – the petrified boy. The problem is the...

David Arquette and Scott Foley are joining Kunal Nayyar, Lucy Hale and Christina Hendricks in the film “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry.” The charming and comical story of redemption, adapted by author Gabrielle Zevin from her own New York Times best-selling novel, begins shooting this month in the U.S. in Cape Cod.
Hans Canosa is directing from Zevin’s novel, which has sold over five million copies and been translated into 38 languages. Bcdf Pictures’ Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady are producing alongside Kelsey Law, Canosa and Zevin. Bcdf’s Brice Dal Farra, Nayyar, Hale and Hendricks are executive producers. Mister Smith Entertainment is handling sales on the film.
The life of A.J. Fikry (Nayyar) is not at all what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare edition of Poe poems,...

Review by Stephen Tronicek
Lucas Heyne’s Mope starts with a familiar phrase: “The film you are about to see is based on actual events. Out of respect to the deceased, every effort has been made to adhere to the facts.” Those familiar with the history of cinema will recognize this as similar to the opening credits to the Coen Brothers’ Fargo. It is also a fair sign that Mope won’t really ever have an identity of its own, even as it tries to tell a true story.
That true story is that of Stephen Clancy Hill, alias Steve Driver (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) and Herbert Wong, alias Tom Dong (Kelly Sry), two low-level pornstars (Mopes), who tried to break into the industry. After being subjected to the horrible conditions of this side of the porn industry (there is after all good sex-work around) and facing his own mental illness, Driver...

There aren’t many stories as grody as the one being told in Mope. For those who don’t know the true tale, I’ll keep the salacious details to be discovered, but for those who know what this film is about, it isn’t hard to imagine the avenues being taken here. While the flick is pretty grimy, there’s an undercurrent of trying for something more. Mope doesn’t pull it off, despite its Boogie Nights ambitions, but it is somewhat encouraging to see the concept not executed with a lowest common denominator feel. You’ll need a shower after watching this, but you’ll also be left with a bit to think about. It’s a missed opportunity, but one not without some redeeming qualities. The movie is a mix of comedy and drama, leading up to tragedy. For those aware of the true story, this is...

Mope is directed by Lucas Heyne and premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It was planning a limited theatrical release, but will now make a wide digital release. Look for a review soon here at We Are Movie Geeks, but for now check out the trailer:
In the multibillion-dollar world of pornography, the term mope refers to a low-level, wannabe porn actor. They’re the lowest of the low, hanging around sets and taking on menial jobs with aspirations of becoming huge stars. In this tragic true story, Stephen Clancy Hill and Herbert Wong, respectively known by their porn alter egos Steve Driver and Tom Dong, were two such mopes—real-life best friends attempting to live the impossible dream, but the blurred line between reality and delusion ultimately sent them both tumbling down a path of horrific destruction.

Lucas Heyne's Sundance selection Mope has been picked up for international sales by L.A. based Vanishing Angle. Mope just had its European premiere at the Sitges Film Festival yesterday. Our own Shelagh Rowan-Legg reviewed Mope when it played at the Boston Underground Film Festival. From her review. ... it tells the story not only of one of the darker corners of a strange industry, but about self-awareness, acceptance, the refusal to give up or give in, and how more often than not we are the demons that live inside us. ...this incredibly strange but impossibly true story, giving us a deeply uncomfortable but absolutely compelling story, never holding back from the discomfort, and giving his lead actors the room to be...

Vanishing Angle has boarded Sundance selection “Mope” by Lucas Heyne, which had its European premiere at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain this week. L.A.-based producer, distributor, and sales outfit Vanishing Angle will sell “Mope” internationally. Xyz is handling North America.
The movie played in the Midnight section at Sundance. Set in the porn industry, it is based on real life events. It follows a pair of mopes – slang for low-ranking male actors in the adult film business – played by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (“Misfits”) and Kelly Sry (“Awkward”). The duo are best friends, but when one of them is fired, he goes on a deadly rampage.
The film covers the true-crime angle but also deals with the emotional toll the porn business takes on its workers. David Arquette stars as Rocket, a leading porn director whom the two aspiring actors idolize.

While Sundance’s genre offerings kept me plenty busy throughout this year’s festival, this writer still had the opportunity to check out a few films that don’t quite fall directly under the umbrella of horror, but I still thought they were definitely worth discussing and were of interest to our readers. Here’s a look at my thoughts on Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale, Corporate Animals from Patrick Brice, and Mope, which was helmed by first-time feature director Lucas Heyne.
The Nightingale: With her work on The Babadook, Jennifer Kent quickly established herself as one of the most intriguing filmmakers out there, and so many fans have been patiently waiting to see what she’d do next as a director. Her follow-up, The Nightingale, isn’t technically a horror movie per say, but it is what I like to call “genre adjacent,” as it’s just as...

One of the more provocative films that screened as part of the Midnight lineup at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Lucas Heyne’s Mope, which is centered around the real-life experiences of two low-level porn stars (generally referred to as “Mopes”) who are chasing fame and women, but their dreams and lives are both tragically cut short. While in Park City last week, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Heyne and several of the cast members from Mope, including David Arquette, Brian Huskey, Kelly Sry, Max Adler, and Tonya Cornelisse, and they chatted about the parallels between the film’s two main characters and their own struggles in Hollywood, the weight of creating a film based on true events, helping erase the stigma surrounding pornography and sex workers, and more.

First off, it is important that the definition of mope is clear: a mope is a person in the porn industry operating in the lowest possible positions, usually angling for a chance to make it big. This includes doing some truly gross, demeaning things. It’s also important to know that this film is based on a true story. For Nathan Stewart-Jarrett’s Steve Hill–he likes to be called Steve Driver–and Tom Dong (Kelly Sry), being a mope is okay. For a while, at least. The two meet at a bukkake film shoot and become fast friends. Directed by Lucas Heyne, Mope is an incredibly dark showbiz comedy that pulls no punches, for better or worse.
Thanks to Steve’s intense optimism and Tom’s It savvy, the new duo land jobs as live-in mopes for Eric (Brian Huskey), a disgusting porn producer who runs a bottom-of-the-barrel studio.

Lucas Heyne’s feature directing debut Mope will have its world premiere later this month in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival. Deadline has the first look at the movie co-written by Zack Newkirk and Heyne and produced by Parkside Pictures in association with Saxton Cinema & Uncooperative Pictures.
The drama is based on the true story of a real-life murder in 2010 at a San Fernando Valley porn company. That’s where Stephen Clancy Hill, a mope (slang for a wannabe porn star), who was living in the company’s warehouse at the time, went on a rampage with a sword when he was told he was fired. He eventually killed his friend and fellow mope Herbert Wong, who tried to intervene when Hill was attacking two others. Hill was killed in a standoff with police five days later.
