The first official (and terrifying) picture of Jared Leto as The Joker has been revealed, and it's understandably set Twitter alight.
Suicide Squad director David Ayer shared the first official photo of Leto in the iconic role to mark the villain's 75th birthday.
He's been compared to Marilyn Manson, a teenage goth and even Tony Blair. Digital Spy rounds up some of the best Twitter reactions below:

Over the past several months I’ve watched with amazement as the Kickstarter darling console, the Ouya, blazed a trail held together with twine, banding wire, and dubious PR. This isn’t a surprise in itself as Kickstarter has been known to be the spawning chamber of dubious products (in addition to quality ones), but what’s perplexing is how the mainstream gaming media has swallowed everything the Ouya team and the face of the project, Julie Uhrman, has been spoon-feeding them since July of 2012. In its Kickstarter campaign alone, the Ouya, based on nothing more than carefully airbrushed mock-up art and lofty dreams, managed to raise over $8.5 million from over 60,000 backers, shattering all prior records for Kickstarter funding including Chris Roberts’ ambitious Star Citizen.
Julie Uhrman refers to the television as the last “closed platform”, and describes how the Android-powered Oyua is going to be an independent game developer...

After reading Luke Schlosser’s opinions on the Call of Duty series and some of the rather harsh feedback he received, I thought I would air my own thoughts on the controversial franchise. In truth I agree with what Luke has to say about the yearly reincarnation of the game, and whilst I hate what Call of Duty has become, I have embraced it as an integral part of gaming today.
Regrettably, I’ve played every single Call of Duty game (with the exception of CoD3) and thoroughly enjoyed the series until Modern Warfare 2. I’ll talk a little more on that later, but for now let us talk a little history. By the early 2000s, there were so many WWII shooters that you could call it its own genre: we had titles from Medal of Honour as well as Battlefield, and Infinity Ward had released two successful Call of Duty WWII games,...

Robert Bowling of Robotoki has revealed that the company’s first project will be a zombie game called Human Element. The game will throw players into the shoes of survivors coping with a zombie apocalypse.
The game will allow players to select their class (Action, Intelligence, or Stealth) and choose one of three profiles (Survive Alone, Survive with a Partner and Survive with a Young Child).
“Their greatest strength is the fear that [zombies] instill in us, the survivors, that unreasonable fear. Unreasonable fear that leads us to do unreasonable things to survive,” stated Robert Bowling. “How you choose to start in the world will determine how you can engage and impacts the scenarios you will be presented with on a physical and morality level.”
Robotoki is also creating an episodic prequel to Human Element for the Android-powered Ouya console, available in March 2013, which will prepare players for the full version...

It has only been a month or so since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 took control of our gaming consoles, but Infinity Ward has already revealed that the first batch of Dlc will be clogging our download queue as early as next month.
Speaking to gamers via the Call of Duty Elite TV program, “Roll Call,” (which is exclusive to paid Elite members) Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling stated the "full season of content for Modern Warfare 3 kicks off for Elite subscribers January 24th on Xbox Live." From the sound of things players who don't subscribe to Elite may have to wait a little longer to get a chance at the new content.
Bowling didn't reveal any specific details regarding the upcoming premium content but he did hint the additional content would cover Spec Ops along with “a variety of things that players have never seen before.” Obviously, we're not really sure what that means,...

Do you ever find yourself perpetually frustrated in online MW3 play as one player seems unaffected by the usual restrictions of gameplay and occasionally the laws of physics, and sets about racking up ridiculous scores by slaying you and your team without mercy or distinction? We’ve all met him in online games – he’s called a big fat cheater, and it seems the developers have decided to continue their hardline stance on anyone who seeks to unlawfully gain advantage within their games by unceremoniously kicking out and banning a large number of the miscreants from MW3.
Robert Bowling, community manager at Infinity Ward has taken to the Twitterverse to confirm that they have banned more than 1600 cheaters and hackers from the record-selling Fps since release, with plans to continue the cull with the help of us law-abiding, ban-fearing sorts.

Los Angeles — Behind a pair of nondescript black doors on the second floor of an angular office building along an unremarkable stretch of Ventura Boulevard is the headquarters for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" developer Infinity Ward. It's out of sight from Hollywood in an unsuspectingly sterile place where one might except to find spreadsheets, not video games.
Yet beyond these doors is where one of the gaming industry's most successful titles was created – and where its sequel nearly unraveled last year when "Call of Duty" publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. fired Infinity Ward executives Jason West and Vince Zampella, a shake-up that left shoot-'em-up fans wondering if there would even be a "Modern Warfare 3."

Gamers always love a good war between developers and publishers. Who could forget such moments as the battle between Sega and Nintendo in the early 90’s, culminating in the infamous slogan ‘Sega does what Nintendon’t’. Jumping forward to 2011, a similar war of words is underway between EA and Activision, with the companies dueling over the launches of the latest entries in their hugely popular online Fps franchises.
EA have been nothing but explicitly outward in their attack of Infinity Ward’s blockbuster franchise. Earlier in the year, EA boss John Riccitiello accused the series of jumping the shark as well as actually saying he wanted the series to “Rot from the core”. Along with mocking the new subscription Elite service, it was embarrassingly discovered recently that the domain name Modernwafare3.com was directing to EA’s own Battlefield site.

Sitting down in front of a "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" multiplayer station during Activision's celebration of all things "Call of Duty" this weekend, I prepared myself for what would surely be – well, another "Call of Duty" game. And, as it turns out, "Modern Warfare 3" multiplayer doesn't really break the mold much, but the changes made are more than enough to draw you right back to into the fray.
Fan Service
In a lot of ways, "Modern Warfare 3" could be the most fan-centered episode in Infinity Ward's increasingly venerable series. Remember how the community was outraged over a number of perceived offenses with the launch of "Modern Warfare 2?" Amazingly enough, the developer has almost universally addressed those concerns.
"Every element of the game has gotten more balanced," said Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling. "That means no One Man Army, no shotgun to secondaries, definitely no Commando perk, and no Last Stand.

A couple years ago, Infinity Ward made the – some would say crappy – decision to release the PC version of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" without access to dedicated servers. There was quite the expected revolt from the PC gaming community, leading to petitions being signed and a bit of a rift between the developer and the PC community. That animosity has remained present, but it looks like Infinity Ward have actually listened to the complaints.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" is launching with dedicated servers, "day one."
The PC version of "Modern Warfare 2" ended up with a rather console-like multiplayer system, ditching dedicated servers for the new IWnet, a matchmaking service. The outcry from PC gamers was totally understandable; why take away one of the perks afforded to playing on PC, namely the ability to control your own server? Infinity Ward expressed understanding towards the complaints, but ultimately, dedicated servers...

People often describe the "Call of Duty" franchise and other military first-person shooters as "gritty" or "realistic" games. Portions of the games are a bit gritty, for sure, but the realism – eh, not entirely. For instance, take the infamous Commando perk from "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." I find it a bit hard to suspend my disbelief when an opponent magically teleports in front of me, stabbing me with a knife.
I hate the Commando perk – the same as many of you, I'm sure – so I'm not shedding any tears at the word of its demise for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3."
According to a tweet (via Joystiq) by Infinity Ward's creative strategist, Robert Bowling, the melee dash move has been removed from the next "Call of Duty" installment as a matter of balancing the multiplayer component. It seems Commando has gone the way of Juggernaut; good riddance, I say.

Party chat, a feature missing from Modern Warfare 2 will return for its sequel, and allows a group of players to talk to each other during a game even when playing on different teams. The feature was blocked in Modern Warfare 2 to create a more competitive multiplayer environment. "A major focus of Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer is allowing you to have a lot more control over [how you play], looking at those restrictions and doing away with stuff like [party chat blocking] that's super hardcore," Bowling told MTV. Looking back at my stats, I spent around 30 hours playing "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" multiplayer, but in "Modern Warfare 2," I only spent about a third of that time. Why the discrepancy? Sure, prevalent hackers played a part in my frustration, but that wasn't the main reason. The main reason was that, in just about every objective-based mode, Party Chat was blocked.
Infinity Ward's rationale was that, by blocking Party Chat, it would encourage teamwork among strangers and cut down on cheating as Party Chatters wouldn't be able to join separate teams and give valuable intel to the other side.
While that's great for the most hardcore players, I'm really just interested in playing and chatting with friends. There were work-arounds using Xbox Live security settings, but it was still an unnecessary chore every time I wanted to play "MW2" multiplayer.

A few weeks ago, the first information about "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" started to leak out. The bulk of it related to the games campaign mode, though there were some additional features regarding the multiplayer. Now we're starting to see multiplayer details start to emerge, including perks, team perks and new kill streaks.
As we get closer to the game's release, this post will serve as a database for the presently-known weapons, killstreaks, perks, team perks and attachments. Right now it's pretty lean, but you can expect it to fill up with more and more information as time goes on.
Thanks to Kotaku for the first burst of information, including the perk/killstreak descriptions.
Team Perks
Perks which affect the entire team. Implementation currently unknown. Possible this only applies to a single match. Note: "Team Perks" were denied by Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward, though he may just be denying the terminology used.

A nonsensical, overly-complex (yet ironically half-baked) plot and some redundant cover-to-cover gameplay made the solo campaign feel like a step back from the original "Modern Warfare." The campaign was trumped in just about every way by last year's "Call of Duty: Black Ops," which means the gauntlet has been thrown, and it's up to Infinity Ward and newcomer, Sledgehammer Games, to take back the reins of the franchise with "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3."
At a press event last week, both developers came together to show off two missions from the campaign. If ever there was a time to prove that things were back on the right track, it was then.

As if there wasn't enough nefarious activity surrounding online game services in recent days, Microsoft has now alerted "Modern Warfare 2" players to a potential phishing scheme. It's unclear whether anyone has actually been affected by this latest attempt to steal gamers' personal information, or if Microsoft is just preemptively trying to avoid a PlayStation Network grade catastrophe.
"Users may receive potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing 'Modern Warfare 2,'" reads the statement on Xbox Live's status page. "We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience."
This alert comes on the heels of Sony's own security breach disaster, which has left the PlayStation Network service down for over a week, and left many PlayStation gamers wondering if their credit card data was compromised. The phishing scheme doesn't appear to...

Activision, Infinity Ward and Treyarch all piled on for a collective denial yesterday that a "Call of Duty" video contains evidence of a plot to charge for playing online. In fact, despite CEO nm2731239 autoBobby Kotick[/link]'s public admission that he "would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow" if he could, representatives from all three offices shot down the speculation as rumor, and Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling even went as far as to use the word "never."
"There is not, and will never be, additional fees required to subscribe and play 'Modern Warfare 2' multiplayer," Bowling wrote on his blog at FourZeroTwo.com.
Likewise, Activision social media manager Dan Amrich, called the video a "glitch" and denied that any such plans for an additional subscription-based service were in the works for "MW2."

Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer will never be subscription based, according to its creators. Yesterday, a video appeared online showing subscription options for the title that were unlocked through the use of Microsoft Points over Xbox Live. Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling said that the footage was not fake but was an "error" with the Marketplace guide, and there are no plans to charge extra fees to play the shooter. Infinity Ward has arrived at a transition period, for better or worse. Despite all of the petition-sparking criticism that "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" received last year, the game still managed to become one of the most successful launches of all time. In the wake of recent map pack releases and documented lawsuit drama surrounding bonuses and key developer departures, though, Activision and their studio have a PR hurdle to get over as they plot their course for Infinity Ward's next project. The first step appears to be opening up a phone number that you can call to share your concerns.
"You can now call or text (402) 500-0119 to give feedback, ask questions, or just leave a rant thanks to Google Voice," Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling wrote this week on his Twitter account. "Accessibility ftw!"

The Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Map Pack’s 360-exclusivity is almost over, and looks to be hitting both PS3 and PC in Early July.
Xbox 360 owners have been enjoying the exclusivity of the Modern Warfare 2 downloadable map pack, The Resurgence Package, since June 3rd, leaving PC and PS3 owners guessing as to when they would get their hands on it for themselves. They need wonder no more, as Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling tweeted today.
“The Resurgence Package Dlc for Modern Warfare 2 will hit @playstation (Us) and PC (worldwide) July 6th! For @playstation (EU ) its July 7th.”
For those of you who are not clued-up on what maps The Resurgence Package contains, let me enlighten you:

Modern Warfare 2 is hugely popular for a variety of very good and very bad reasons. The only one that really matters though is that Modern Warfare is ridiculously fun. It can get a little stale after a while though, which is why Activision and Infinity Ward are releasing the second Modern Warfare 2 map pack, the Resurgence Pack, today for the Xbox 360.
If you’re not familiar with what will be included in the map pack, you should check out the trailer for the Dlc. It will explain everything you need to know, and get you excited for a map pack in ways you wouldn’t have expected.
Here’s a recent update from Creative Strategist Robert Bowling (fourzerotwo), from Infinity Ward:

After a few false starts, the "Modern Warfare 2" "Resurgence" Map Pack has finally been unleashed on Xbox Live, at least according to Infinity Ward spokesman Robert Bowling. On his Twitter account, Bowling revealed the following:
"Resurgence Package for #MW2 is now live - it may take a few hours to show for everyone. I'll be playing all-day in the Resurgence Playlists!"
The prolonged wait was due to a required Microsoft title update which had to be pushed to consoles before the new maps could be played. A similar issue occurred with the last "Modern Warfare 2," the "Stimulus Package."
For a rundown of the new maps in the "Resurgence Pack," MTVNews.com has you covered.

Fans of Modern Warfare 2 must be happy after hearing that the first map pack released for the game broke Xbox Live and Psn sales records, but now they can look forward to MW2’s second map pack (which will probably give the first pack a run for its money).

Infintiy Ward have announced that the PS3 version of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ‘Stimulus Package’ Dlc has been purchased and downloaded by over 1 million PS3 users, making it the fastest selling Dlc in Psn history, breaking day one and week one sales…
Creative strategist Robert Bowling released a statement via his Twitter account:
Thanks to the one million-plus PlayStation users who helped the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package break day one and week one download records on Psn.
The Stimulus Package features three new maps and two maps from the original Modern Warfare. This news echoes the Dlc’s performance on Xbox Live last month, where it was downloaded 2.5 million times within its first week of sale.
The next map pack, titled the Resurgence Package, will be available on Xbox Live on June 3rd and PS3 in July.

It wasn’t more than a month and a half ago that we found out Modern Warfare 2’s Stimulus Package Dlc broke records by selling over 1 million copies in 24 hours, and 2.5 million over its first weekend on Xbox Live. Now that Microsoft’s exclusivity deal is up and the Stimulus Package has landed on Psn, we’re seeing more of the same.
Community Manager at Infinity Ward Robert Bowling posted this to his Twitter account today:

If that means what I think it does, Psn has sold the Stimulus Package in parallel amounts to Xbox Live, over one million in 24 hours. It’s nice to see that Modern Warfare 2’s popularity crosses all consoles.

Xbox Live’s very own Major Nelson recently interviewed Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling on his podcast, and Mr. Bowling released some details about the upcoming second map pack for Modern Warfare 2.
Just like the previous map pack it will indeed be hitting Xbox 360 first with limited exclusivity on June 3rd. The Resurgence map pack will set you back 1200 points ($15), which seems to be the new standard for Call of Duty maps. On top of all this information the five new maps were detailed and they include 2 maps that appeared in CoD4, as well as 3 brand new maps.
Vacant – the Russian office buildings that have been torn apart by conflict (CoD4) Strike – an urban backdrop that is surrounded by hotels (CoD4) Carnival – an abandoned war-torn carnival that still features a ferris-wheel, fun house, and more (New) Trailer Park – apparently this map has an abundance of “super tight corridors” and a pool.

For players looking for a little variety in their online warmongering, Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward confirmed today that the Team Tactical (4 v 4) Playlist update has gone live for Modern Warfare 2. The playlist features a variety of modes all rolled into one, and allows only small teams to compete against each other in Team Deathmatch, Domination, Capture the Flag, and Demolition.
As a result of adding Team Tactical to the playlists, Third-Person Cage Match was removed. Bowling states, “It was one of the least played gametypes, and since we’re limited on the # of playlists, to add one, we must remove one.” Makes sense, who really wanted to play third-person Modern Warfare 2 anyway?

"We'll be updating all Modern Warfare 2 playlists on Xbox Live with the new Dlc maps & double Xp later today. I'll keep you updated on when."
As Bowling mentioned, the planned double Xp weekend will kick off later today (earlier than what was originally reported) and will run through April 5th.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" faced its fair share of outrage when it launched last fall, specifically on the PC, where the game's developers decided to pass on setting up dedicated servers in favor of the IWnet matchmaking system. A quarter of a million signatures on an online petition didn't stop "MW2" from becoming a profit juggernaut, though, and leading up to the new "Stimulus Package" map pack release on March 30th, Infinity Ward says even the haters stayed around to play after the game shipped.

Hoping to hit that next level of Prestige in half the time? Infinity Ward has you covered. Truthfully it's gonna take more than double Xp to bring me back to "Modern Warfare 2." "Bad Company 2" has been stealing most of my nights since, unlike Infinity Ward's ultra-popular shooter, I only get killed every 10 seconds in "Battlefield" instead of every 5 in "MW2." My kinda game!
