On day 67 of The Writers Guild of America strike, the cast and creatives behind three popular shows joined the picket lines across Los Angeles.
Bright and early at 9:30 a.m. over at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, there was an Ugly Betty reunion with stars Ana Ortiz and Chris Gorham joining writers Brian Tannen, Gabrielle Stanton, Sheila Lawrence, Chris Black, Henry Myers, Cameron Litvack and Tracy Poust on the special picket.
Ugly Betty, based on the hit Spanish-language novela Betty La Fea, aired for four seasons from 2006 to 2010. America Ferrera portrayed the titular Betty Suarez, an unconventional beauty whose unique sense of style doesn’t preclude her from landing a gig at a top fashion magazine. The project was developed by Silvio Horta for ABC and also starred Mark Indelicato, Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Becki Newton and Michael Urie.

Exclusive: Filming on Season 2 of the FX drama series The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges, is being suspended. We hear the crew of the series, produced by 20th Television, were alerted this morning of the decision to stop after today’s shoot, completing Episode 204.
According to sources, the plan had been to film through Episode 205 as five Season 2 scripts had been completed before the writers strike started on June 2. However, the last remaining script needed rewrites, so production will wrap now for the foreseeable future. It will resume sometime after the WGA work stoppage is over.
The set of the show in Santa Clarita has been picketed, causing some delays in production last Thursday. Accompanied by a producer, Bridges crossed the picket line in a van that day.

Editor’s Note: This story contains spoilers through Episode 6 of “The Old Man.”
Lymphoma was one thing. When Jeff Bridges, 72, learned the cancer diagnosis, he had shot almost four and a half episodes out of a planned ten of “The Old Man” (FX). It was the “Crazy Heart” Oscar-winner’s first starring role in a TV series. He had jumped on board the show from uber-producer Warren Littlefield right off the pilot. And then the pandemic hit.
“The world fell apart,” said showrunner Jonathan Steinberg on Zoom, tracing the rollercoaster course of the series leading up to the July 21 cliffhanger Episode 7 finale. “And then the writers and the world were coming back together again. But while we were making it Jeff got sick.”
Littlefield had first called showrunner Steinberg back in 2017 when he landed the rights to Thomas Perry’s new thriller about an ex-Afghanistan CIA operative who is unearthed...

The wait was long and tedious, but damn, Dynasty Season 5 Episode 3 was one of the best episodes of the entire series.
We got Dex's long-awaited arrival, Beto's revenge plan in motion, Fallon and Liam goodness, Alexis sashaying out of prison, and some evil twin drama.
Admittedly, there was far too much going on throughout "How Did The Board Meeting Go?" but it was a fast-paced hour that set the wheels in motion for the season ahead.
My concern after The CW aired the two-part premiere almost three months ago was that the spring premiere would play out like a middle-of-the-road installment, but it was a lot of fun.
Fallon's troubles with the board highlighted her desire to return to work and restore some semblance of normalcy in her life.
When you consider what she's been through, it makes sense that she would want to dive back into her career instead of recuperating.

Saturday Night Live‘s Alex Moffat has joined Bill Lawrence’s Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey in a key recurring role opposite Vince Vaughn. Written and executive produced by Lawrence based on Carl Hiaasen’s popular 2013 novel, Bad Monkey tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), a one-time detective demoted to restaurant inspector in Southern Florida. A severed arm found by a tourist out fishing pulls Yancy into the world of greed and corruption that decimates the land and environment in both Florida and the Bahamas. And yes, there’s a monkey. Moffat will play Evan Shook, an obnoxious real estate developer from Maryland who has bought the land next door to Andrew Yancy (Vaughn) on a secluded promontory in Big Pine Key and is in the process of developing a hideous spec house that is an affront to Yancy’s environmentalist sensibilities. The uproar over Roseanne Barr’s “ape” joke about Valerie Jarrett killed the star’s ABC sitcom faster than one can say “reboot” — but it’s the lack of outrage over the other part of her tweet that has some of Hollywood’s Muslim community speaking out.
Barr insulted Jarrett, a former Obama adviser, on Tuesday, tweeting: “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” Within hours, ABC pulled the plug on its highest-rated show, calling her tweet “repugnant.”
The backlash focused on the second half of Barr’s tweet, which likened Jarrett, a black woman, to an ape — a comparison with a centuries-long racist history. Meanwhile the first half, about the Muslim Brotherhood, was largely ignored.
“Roseanne Barr’s comments about Muslims sort of fell through the cracks and took a back seat to the ‘Planet of the Apes’ comment,” said Sue Obeidi, director of the Muslim...

Maria Bello's Jack Sloane always felt disconnected from the main action of the series, so placing the spotlight on her for the season finale came as something of a surprise.
NCIS Season 15 Episode 24 finally filled in significant gaps in her character, elaborating on quite a dark and horrible backstory for Sloane, thus proving once again that no one on this cast can have a normal, well-adjusted background.
Sloane's dark past has been alluded to a few times before, as has her prior relationship with Vance. This episode pretty graphically spelled out what happened, with her months of torture at the hands of "the Monster."
Said monster was played by Pej Vahdat, who most viewers will probably recognize as Arastoo Vaziri from Fox’s Bones. It was so strange to see him in such a wildly different role; I have to say!

Fired over racist tweets, Breitbart writer Katie McHugh is trying to crowdfund the cost of her healthcare during her unemployment. Following the recent London terror attack, McHugh took to Twitter to express that “there would be no deadly terror attacks in the U.K. if Muslims didn’t live there.” When Iranian-American actor Pej Vahdat challenged that thinking, McHugh tweeted back, “You’re an Indian.” Breitbart fired her on Monday. Bones said goodbye after 12 seasons on Tuesday night, with a series finale that paid tribute to the brilliant mind of Dr. Temperance Brennan, by showing what life would be like without it.
In the aftermath of the bombing at the Jeffersonian, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) thankfully survives -- as do Booth (David Boreanaz), Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) -- but she knows immediately that something’s wrong. Unable to remember what she was doing prior to the explosion or recall what the team was working on, Brennan tearfully insists to Booth that “something is wrong with me.”
And she’s right. Once the foursome escapes the rubble of the Medico-Legal Lab, Cam (Tamara Taylor) informs the forensic anthropologist that she has a contusion on her corpus callosum, the nerves that join the two hemispheres of the brain. Essentially, the brilliant scientist has lost her ability to process complex information, a devastating...

When Bones signs off on Tuesday night, after 12 seasons on Fox, it will do so as the network’s longest-running scripted drama, having solved -- according to finale promos -- 275 cases in 246 episodes. And that prolific conviction rate may not even be the most impressive thing that the series accomplished.
Because Bones -- which was based on the life and works of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs -- did more than just stay on the air, leapfrogging more than 20 different time slots in its 12-year run. In a television landscape populated with morose antiheroes and sarcastic protagonists that often poke fun at the earnestness of cops-and-science procedurals like Bones, sometimes directly by name (see: American Dad, Bojack Horseman, Bob’s Burgers and more), the show was a champion of justice and evidence, science and guts, “brains and heart.” It told new stories every week, while at the same time unfolding its central characters little by little, making...

Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you haven’t watched Tuesday’s Bones.
Bones set the stage for its series finale on Tuesday’s explosive penultimate episode, which, true to form for the long-running Fox procedural, combined the joy of a wedding with the terror of a killer on the loose. And everything ended with a bang.
The episode, titled “The Day in the Life,” flashed back and forward around the events of Cam (Tamara Taylor) and Arastoo’s (Pej Vahdat) reception, giving fans a chance to see the happy couple and all their friends and relatives -- Michelle! Felicia! Most of the old “squinterns!” -- celebrating their much-deserved bliss.
However, the honeymoon doesn’t last long, as the next morning Cam and Arastoo are summoned back to the Jeffersonian Institute’s Medico-Legal Lab, where, as Brennan (Emily Deschanel) puts it, “everything” has gone wrong.

Wow. In answer to the headline's nasty question: Yes, Booth and Brennan still love each other just as much as they always have and that is why the events of "Murder in the Middle East" are so devastating. From start to finish, Bones' 19th episode was cinematographically wonderfully done. The episode's script, written by Co-executive Producer Michael Peterson, is concise, weaving together two splendidly crafted storylines.
While we have known that the gambling arc is a long-running one, this episode was a particularly thorny proposition which has been handled incredibly well by Peterson, Boreanaz, Deschanel, Taylor, and guest star Pej Vahdat. Peterson's success with "Murder in the Middle East" bodes well for the future of the Bones franchise as Peterson has recently been crowned co-showrunner with fellow Executive Producer Jonathan Collier. ...

He’s been on Bones for the last five years, but we’re only now going to get to know the parents of Arastoo Vazira (Pej Vahdat).
