A mysterious electronic-alt pop group named Purple Tears—with a “well-known” artist behind it — just dropped a song under Warner Records Friday. The group released debut single “Work It Out” with a verse from Swae Lee, and boasts songwriting by Adam Levine. But is the group’s vocalist Levine himself?
The song hears the mystery vocalist singing to a past love and fighting to be forgiven over slow, electronic sounds. “I want you to stay every night and every day ’cause I need you now,” the voice croons. “But you’re already leaving.

Joe Jonas paid tribute to one of his fellow early-aughts Disney Channel legends, Hilary Duff, with Dnce sharing a cover of the actress/singer’s 2004 hit, “Come Clean.”
The performance was about as unplugged as you can get, with guitarist JinJoo Lee strumming an acoustic guitar and drummer Jack Lawless using jazz brushes to keep an incredibly inventive beat on a tissue box. Meanwhile, Jonas uses his phone as a makeshift microphone, leaping into his falsetto to hit all the classic high notes on the “Come Clean” chorus.

Early last year, Joe Jonas was in Savannah, Georgia, filming the Korean War-set film Devotion when he had a burst of another kind of creativity. “I felt so inspired by what a beautiful city I was in and some of the music I heard when I was there,” Jonas tells Rolling Stone. He began writing new material over Zoom with collaborators like Ryan Tedder, Jason Evigan, Mike Elizondo, and Mikky Ekko. Eventually he had written nearly an album, one he felt fit the raucous nature of Dnce.

North Carolina rapper Rapsody has shared a scathing new song, “12 Problems,” which will appear on the upcoming Roc Nation social justice charity compilation, Reprise, out October 9th.
“12 Problems” boasts production from Don Cannon and Cubeatz, who pair concrete drums and rumbling bass with a loop of disconcertingly heavenly choral vocals. When Dan + Shay were on the road earlier this year, Dan Smyers would retreat to his bunk after the show, get stoned, and immerse himself in the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds. He had discovered the isolated a cappella tracks to the 1966 album online and studied the way Brian Wilson arranged the intricate vocal parts.
“That inspired me more than anything,” Smyers tells Rolling Stone. “Over the course of releasing records, you evolve into your sound. You find what your lane is, be it at country radio or just in the music marketplace.

In case you missed it, Madonna pulled off a holiday surprise late Friday night and released six new singles from her upcoming album "Rebel Heart." This was in response to the entire album being leaked by hackers on Wednesday, Dec. 17. And, earlier in December, three other unfinished tracks found their way onto the net. In truth, those were unfinished demo tracks, but it forced Madonna and her label into action in what can only be described as a "partial Beyonce." No, the entire album with accompanying music videos wasn't released out of the blue, but six "finished" tracks were and, in some corners, the internet exploded. Unlike Madonna's previous albums, these tracks immediately made an impact on iTunes. Within 12 hours it was the no. 1 album in the Us and in 40 other countries. And, late Sunday night, it was still no. 1. Now naysayers can say it was a busy holiday weekend...

Is Selena Gomez the next Jennifer Lopez?
With her singing, dancing, and acting chops, one producer seems to think so.
"Her album's really cool. It's a really strong dance record and it's really cool actually," Gomez's collaborator Jason Evigan told MTV News. "I think it's going to take her to the next level too. All the stuff I've heard has been really, really cool. She's got some really cool like ethnic influence, kind of tribally dance drums and stuff like that. I kind of feel she's going to be like a new J.Lo kind of thing."
Gomez may already be upstaging Lopez as Evigan added Gomez was able to nab a coveted single, "Save the Day," for her upcoming album. "Jennifer Lopez wanted [it] really badly. It's, like, real. It's, like, really cool [and] up-tempo. It's about like kind of '[Let's] dance all night. Let's save the day. Let's go into the next day.

Selena Gomez's new song leaked early and her fans -- known as "Selenators" -- were so excited they crashed Ryan Seacrest's website.
Gomez's "Come & Get It" leaked online Saturday afternoon even though it was supposed to debut on Seacrest's Kiis-fm show on Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times. Instead of getting disappointed, the starlet reached out to her fans and shared the news.
"So, my song got leaked today -- my first single -- and I'm actually kind of excited because you can finally hear it," she said in a video uploaded to YouTube. "I hope you guys like it." She told fans to head over to RyanSeacrest.com to hear the official version.
And they did. In droves. The "Selenators" were so excited they crashed Seacrest's website.
The Bollywood-infused track, produced by StarGate, is the first official single off the former Disney star's summer album for Hollywood Records.

We’ve already seen high school turned into a musical, so what could we do next? How about a callback to all the classic beach-party movies of old?
